Self-modeling(SM)and self-control(SC)feedback can be presented as two solutions for learning ***,the aim of the present study was to investigate the effects of SM and SC feedback on 100-m freestyle performance of professional swimmers and waterpolo players.25 elite male swimmers and waterpolo players,were randomly assigned to four groups:swimmer group with SM,swimmer group with SM and SC feedback,waterpolo players group with SM,and waterpolo players group with SM and SC feedback.100-m freestyle times and performance were *** and SC feedback for the participants were utilized at the acquisition *** device used included a Lenovo B570 laptop and an Exilim ZR200 canon *** and SC feedback presented to the swimmers and waterpolo players led to improved speed and results,and the effect of presenting SM with SC feedback to swimmers had better *** conclusion,the present study indicates that SC modeling of watching video is a suitable method for professional *** polo trainers can also use SM and SC feedback to enhance their players'swimming technique.

This study aimed to investigate the trends of finishers in the Sao Silvestre race in Brazil,taking into account sex,age,and performance levels.A total of 31775 runners(women,n=13847;men,n=17928),aged(45.2±16.8)years,finishers in the Sao Silvestre race between 2007 and 2021,were considered in the present ***(event year,date of birth,sex,and race times)were downloaded from the official race *** man-Whitney U test,Spearman correlation,and robust regression model were *** increased over time for both *** age groups,“31-40 years”(women)and“>60 years”(men)were those with the highest number of *** found a decrease in performance across the years(β=2.45;p<0.005),as well as significant differences in race times for both sexes(U=42.844;p<0.001),with men presenting better performances than *** time,it was observed an increase in the performance gap between the sexes,but in general,the performance decreased(β=1.76;p<0.001).Stakeholders should consider improving the strategies to improve women and young people's participation in running events.

Wet-cupping therapy(WCT)is one of the oldest known medical techniques,used as a traditional and complementary therapy with a wide application all around the world for general *** on the effects of WCT on sports performance are sparse and ***,we aimed to explore the effects of WCT on repeated sprint ability,wellness,and exertion in young active ***-nine active adult males(age:[28±5]years;body height[177±8]cm;body mass:[79±7]kg;body mass index:[25.4±1.8]kg/m^(2))were selected for the *** participants performed a running-based sprint test on two separate occasions(Control and Post-WCT).WCT was performed 24 h before the testing *** completed the Hooper questionnaire to assess their well-being(i.e.,sleep,stress,fatigue,and soreness)before each *** rating of perceived exertion(RPE)was collected after each testing session.A higher maximum power(p<0.05,effect size[ES]=0.6),mean power(p<0.01,ES=0.5)and minimum power(p<0.01,ES=0.6)were recorded post-WCT as compared to Control session along with a better perceived sleep(p<0.01,ES=0.85).Perceived stress(p<0.01,ES=0.6)and RPE(p<0.001;ES=1.1)were lower during the post-WCT compared to the Control *** present findings demonstrated that WCT moderately enhanced repeated sprint ability and had positive effects on perceived sleep,stress,and *** may be an effective ergogenic aid to improve repeated sprint ability and general wellbeing in young adult *** large-scale multicentric clinical studies are paramount to confirm the results of our study.

Aims Plant-plant interactions,being positive or negative,are rec-ognized to be key factors in structuring plant ***,it is thought that root competition may be less impor-tant than shoot competition due to greater size symmetry *** direct experimental tests on the importance of root competition are scarce,we aim at elucidating whether root competition may have direct or indirect effects on commu-nity *** effects may occur by altering the overall size asymmetry of competition through root-shoot competitive *** We used a phytometer approach to examine the effects of root,shoot and total competition intensity and importance on evenness of experimental plant *** two different phytom-eter species,Festuca brevipila and Dianthus carthusianorum,were grown in small communities of six grassland species over three levels of light and water availability,interacting with neighbouring shoots,roots,both or not at *** Findings We found variation in community evenness to be best explained if root and shoot(but not total)competition were ***,the effects were species specific:in Dianthus communities increasing root competition increased plant community evenness,while in Festuca communities shoot competition was the driving force of this evenness *** intensities were influenced by environmental conditions in Dianthus,but not in Festuca phytometer *** we found no evidence for root-shoot interactions for neither phytom-eter species root competition in Dianthus communities led to increased allocation to shoots,thereby increasing the potential ability to perform in size-asymmetric competition for *** experiment demonstrates the potential role of root competition in structuring plant communities.

Mating decisions can be affected by intrasexual competition and sensitive to operational sex-ratio （OSR） changes in the population. Conceptually, it is assumed that both male and female matecompetition may interfere with female reproductive decisions. Experimentally, however, the focus has been on the effect of male competition on mate choice. In many species with paternal care as in the common goby Pomatoschistus microps, the OSR is often female-biased and female matecompetition for access to available nesting males occurs. Using the same protocol for 3 experi- ments testing the effect of a perceived risk of female mate-competition, I studied female preferences for nest-holding males differing in its nest size （large/small）, body size （large/small）, and nest status （with/without eggs already in nest） and measured mating decisions, spawning latencies, and clutch size. Regardless of the social context, females preferred males with larger nests. A preference for large males was only expressed in presence of additional females. For nest status, there was a tendency for females to prefer mating with males with an empty nest. Here, female-female competition increased the propensity to mate. The results of this study show that females are sensitive to a female competitive social environment and suggest that in choice situations, females respond to the social context mainly by mating decisions per se rather than by adjusting the clutch size or spawning latency. Females base their mating decisions not only on a male＇s nest size but also on male size as an additional cue of mate quality in the presence of additional females.

Determination of particle exchange rates at over-flow weirs in horizontal fluidised beds by particle tracking velocimetry

Residence time distributions （RTDs） in horizontal fluidised beds have a huge effect on solid product properties and are infuenced by the internal design of the apparatus, e.g. the separation into different compartments by weirs. Weirs can be passed in or against the overall solid transport direction, with the back-flow resulting in axial dispersion, which is a measure of the spread of the RTD. Therefore, the ratio of exchange rates at weirs under different fluidisation conditions provides information on axial dispersion. In this work, a methodology based on particle tracking velocimetry is presented to obtain information on the exchange rates of particles at weirs in horizontal fluidised beds. The internal recirculation is studied for over-flow weirs with respect to different fluidisation conditions, providing a first step towards determining the effects of weirs and fluidisation conditions on axial dispersion and RTDs in horizontal fluidised beds.

Disruption of normal fetal development can influence functioning of organs and cells in adulthood. Circumstantial evidence suggests that subtle reductions in fetal androgen production may be the cause of adult male reproductive disorders due to reduced testosterone production. The mechanisms through which these fetal events affect adult testosterone levels are l^rgely unknown. A recent paper of Kilcoyne et al. provides evidence that fetal reduction in androgen production or signaling results in a reduced Leydig stems cell number after birth and concomitant Leydig cell failure in adulthood. This implies that fetal androgen deficiency can lead to negative programming of adult Leydig cell （ALC） function, which may have implications for general health, aging, and longevity.

Although it has become clear that sexual selection may shape mating systems and drive speciation, the potential constraints of environmental factors on processes and outcomes of sexual selection are largely unexplored. Here, we investigate the geographic variation of such environmental factors, more precisely the quality and quantity of nest resources （bivalve shells） along a salinity gradient in the Baltic Sea Area （Baltic Sea, Sounds and Belts, and Kattegat）. We further test whether we find any salinity-associated morphological differences in body size between populations of common gobies Pomatoschistus microps, a small marine fish with a resource-based mat- ing system. In a geographically expansive field study, we sampled 5 populations of P. microps occurring along the salinity gradient （decreasing from West to East） in the Baltic Sea Area over 3 consecutive years. Nest resource quantity and quality decreased from West to East, and a correla- tion between mussel size and male body size was detected. Population density, sex ratios, mating- and reproductive success as well as brood characteristics also differed between populations but with a less clear relation to salinity. With this field study we shed light on geographic variation of distinct environmental parameters possibly acting on population differentiation. We provide insights on relevant ecological variation, and draw attention to its importance in the framework of context-dependent plasticity of sexual selection.
