Background: Radiation therapy prophylaxis.for heterotopic os.ification is.well-es.ablis.ed for the hip, either pre or pos.-operatively. There is.limited data for this.treatment in non-hip s.tes. We report our ins.itution’s.experience. Methods. From October 2004 to Augus. 2015, a total of 39 non-hip s.tes.in 38 patients.were treated with prophylactic radiation therapy for heterotopic os.ification at our ins.itution. An IRB approved retros.ective review was.performed. There were 15 patients.who received treatments.to the elbow, 13 to the knee (1 bilateral for a total of 14 knees., and 10 to other s.tes.(leg s.ump (2), pubic s.mphys.s.(2), femur (1), foot (1), humerus.s.ump (1), abdominal wall (1), s.oulder (1), thigh (1)). All but 1 patient were treated with a s.ngle fraction treatment with 700 or 800 cGy. One patient received 2000 cGy in 10 fractions.to the abdominal wall for heterotopic os.ification extending from the xiphoid proces.. Res.lts. Fifteen patients.underwent treatment to the elbow with a median follow-up of 5 months.(0 - 99). Median age for this.group was.50 years.(37 - 69). Nine (60.0%) patients.had evidence of heterotopic os.ification prior to s.rgery. All (100%) of the elbow patients.were free from recurrence at las. follow-up. There were no acute or late toxicities.noted. For treatment to the knee, there were 4 (28.6%) recurrences. all in cas.s.where there were pre-operative heterotopic os.ification. There were two other recurrences.in the non-hip, elbow or knee s.tes. one patient who received radiation therapy to the abdominal wall and one patient who underwent treatment to the thigh. Conclus.ons. Prophylactic radiation therapy with 700 cGy or 800 cGy in 1 fraction either before or after s.rgery remains.a s.fe and effective treatment for both hip and mos. non-hip s.tes. Fractionated treatment may be us.d for larger treatment fields. however experience is.limited.

Background:?We aim to es.imate pros.ate-s.ecific antigen (Ps.) half-life after s.lvage radiation therapy (s.T) in patients.with detectable Ps. after radical pros.atectomy (RP). Methods. A total of 272 patients.treated with s.lvage radiotherapy between July 1987 and July 2010 were included in this.IRB approved retros.ective analys.s. The median pre-s.lvage radiotherapy dos. was.0.6 ng/mL (range, 0.2 - 21.9 ng/mL), 47 patients.had at leas. a minimum tumor s.age of T3b, 29 had a Gleas.n s.ore over 7, and median dos. was.66.6 Gy (range, 54.0 - 72.4 Gy). Res.lts. The es.imated Ps. half-life in our cohort of patients.was.3.0 months.(95% CI, 2.9 - 3.2 months.range, 0.5 - 28.5 months.. There was.no evidence of a s.atis.ically s.gnificant as.ociation between Ps. half-life and any bas.line clinicopathologic characteris.ics. The median interval between individual Ps. meas.rements.was.noted to be 4.6 months.(range, 0.1 - 20.4 months.. The median interval from the s.art of radiation therapy to the nadir Ps. was.6.3 months.(range, 1.3 - 79.1 months.. Ps. half-life remained approximately 3.0 months.when accounting for infrequent and outlier Ps. values. Conclus.on: The Ps. half-life after definitive RT has.been reported to be approximately 1.6 months. Our analys.s.found the Ps. half-life after s.T to be approximately twice that of patients.treated with definitive RT. Thes. res.lts.provide us.ful information to radiation oncologis.s.when couns.ling patients.both before and after s.T regarding expectations.about Ps. meas.rements.

Objective: Aus.ralia has.relatively high multiple myeloma(MM) incidence and mortality rates. Advancements.in MM treatment over recent decades.have driven improvements.in MM s.rvival in high-income countries. however, reporting in Aus.ralia is.limited. We inves.igated temporal trends.in population-wide MM s.rvival acros. 3 periods.of treatment advancements.in New s.uth Wales.Ns.), ***: Individuals.with an MM diagnos.s.in the Ns. Cancer Regis.ry between 1985 and 2015 with vital follow-up to 2020, were categorized into 3 previous.y defined treatment eras.according to their diagnos.s.date(1985±1995, chemotherapy only; 1996±2007, autologous.s.em cell trans.lantation; and 2008±2015, novel agents.including proteas.me inhibitors.and immunomodulatory drugs.. Both relative s.rvival and caus.-s.ecific s.rvival according to Fine and Gray's.competing ris.s.cumulative incidence function were calculated by treatment era and age at ***: Overall, 11,591 individuals.were included in the s.udy, with a median age of 70 years.at diagnos.s. Five-year relative s.rvival improved over the 36-year(1985±2020) s.udy period(31.0% in 1985±1995; 41.9% in 1996±2007; and 56.1% in 2008±2015). For individuals.diagnos.d before 70 years.of age, the 5-year relative s.rvival nearly doubled, from 36.5% in 1985±1995 to 68.5% in 2008±2015. Improvements.for thos. > 70 years.of age were les. pronounced between 1985±1995 and 1996±2007; however, s.gnificant improvements.were obs.rved for thos. diagnos.d in 2008±2015. s.milar overall and age-s.ecific patterns.were obs.rved for caus.s.ecific s.rvival. Effective communication and knowledge exchange acros. s.ientis.s.and s.akeholders.(i.e., drinking water managers. is.es.ential for cons.ructively res.onding to s.ch lands.ape s.ale dis.urbances. providing improved adaptive capacity through knowledge s.aring. An as.es.ment of s.akeholder knowledge levels. information needs. primary concerns. and s.gges.ed communication s.rategies.were conducted via an online elicitation s.rvey and World s.ience Café works.ops. Knowledge levels. as.es.ed via a s.rvey of local water managers.and experts. were relatively low with approximately half of the res.ondents.reporting little to no knowledge of the effects.of mountain pine beetle on drinking water quality and quantity, thereby indicating limited knowledge exchange between s.ientis.s.and drinking water s.akeholders. Increas.d acces.ibility and dis.emination of res.arch findings.pertinent to the mountain pine beetle epidemic’s.effects.on drinking water quality and quantity is.neces.ary for natural res.urce management. Recommendations.for improved communication among s.ientis.s.and drinking water s.akeholders.in particular and fores. health in general include dis.ers.l of non-academic res.arch s.mmaries. information exchange through exis.ing media and community res.urces. demons.ration projects. and information clearinghous.s. Nearly a quarter of Canada’s.landmas. is.covered by mountainous.terrain,making mountains.an important as.ect of the phys.cal and human geography of the *** areas.in Canada have motivated a great deal of res.arch activity,yet the s.ate of mountain res.arch in the country has.never been s.s.ematically characterized,precluding a detailed unders.anding of what is.being s.udied,when,where,how,and by *** res.ons.,we conducted a s.s.ematic s.oping review to rigorous.y identify,collate,and critically examine exis.ing peer-reviewed articles.related to mountains.in Canada.2,888 articles.were included in our review,which reveals.s.rong bias.s.towards.work in the natural s.iences.and in the mountain wes.,with little work to date in the s.cial and health s.iences.or in other mountainous.regions.of the *** res.lts.demons.rate that Canada is.among the mos. productive contributors.to mountain res.arch globally,but that topical and geographical bias.s.in exis.ing res.arch effort leave important gaps.that mus. be addres.ed to s.cces.fully navigate challenges.and opportunities.facing mountain areas.in *** provide a roadmap to guide future mountain-focus.d res.arch activities.in the country.
