Asia stands out as a priority for urgent biodiversity conservation due to its large protected areas(PAs)and threatened *** the 21st century,both the highlands and lowlands of Asia have been experiencing the dramatic human ***,the threat degree of human expansion to biodiversity is poorly ***,the threat degree of human expansion to biodiversity over 2000 to 2020 in Asia at the continental(Asia),national(48 Asian countries),and hotspot(6,502 Asian terrestrial PAs established before 2000)scales is investigated by integrating multiple large-scale *** results show that human expansion poses widespread threat to biodiversity in Asia,especially in Southeast Asia,with Malaysia,Cambodia,and Vietnam having the largest threat degrees(~1.5 to 1.7 times of the Asian average level).Human expansion in highlands induces higher threats to biodiversity than that in lowlands in one-third Asian countries(most Southeast Asian countries).the reg.ons with threats to biodiversity are present in~75%terrestrial PAs(including 4,866 PAs in 26 countries),and human expansion in PAs triggers higher threat degrees to biodiversity than that in *** findings provide novel insight for the Sustainable Development goal 15(SDg-15 Life on Land)and suggest that human expansion in Southeast Asian countries and PAs might hinder the realization of *** reduce the threat degree,Asian developing countries should accelerate economic transformation,and the developed countries in the world should reduce the demands for commodity trade in Southeast Asian countries(i.e.,trade leading to the loss of wildlife habitats)to alleviate human expansion,especially in PAs and highlands.

Crystal structure,phase transitions,and thermodynamic properties of magnesium metavanadate(MgV_(2)o_(6))

As a promising anode material for magnesium ion rechargeable batteries,magnesium metavanadate(MgV_(2)o_(6))has attracted considerable research interest in recent years.A MgV_(2)o_(6)sample was synthesized via a facile solid-state reaction by multistep-firing stoichiometric mixtures of Mgo and V2o5 powder under an air *** solid-state phase transition fromα-MgV_(2)o_(6)toβ-MgV_(2)o_(6)occurred at 841 K and the enthalpy change was 4.37±0.04 kJ/*** endothermic effect at 1014 K and the enthalpy change was 26.54±0.26 kJ/mol,which is related to the incongruent melting.ofβ-MgV_(2)o_(6).In situ XRD was performed to investigate phase transition of the as-prepared MgV_(2)o_(6)at high *** cell parameters obtained by Rietveld refinement indicated that it crystallizes in a monoclinic system with the C2/m space g.oup,and the lattice parameters of a=9.280 A°,b=3.501 A°,c=6.731 A°,β=111.76°.the solid-state phase transition fromα-MgV_(2)o_(6)toβ-MgV_(2)o_(6)was further studied by thermal kinetics,indicating that this process is controlled first by a fibril-like mechanism and then by a spherulitic-type mechanism with an increasing heating ***,the enthalpy change of MgV_(2)o_(6)at high temperatures was measured utilizing the drop calorimetry,heat capacity was calculated and given as:Cp=208.3+0.03583t-4809000t^(−2)(298-923 K)(J mol^(−1)K^(−1)),the high-temperature heat capacity can be used to calculate gibbs free energy of MgV_(2)o_(6)at high temperatures.

Liquid-phase exfoliation was employed to synthesize Sr_(2)Nb_(3)o_(10) perovskite nanosheets with thicknesses down to 1.76 *** electron microscopy(tEM),atomic force microscope(AFM),X-ray photoelectron spectrometer(XPS),and other characterization techniques were used to evaluate the atomic structure and chemical composition of the exfoliated nanosheets.A UV photodetector based on individual Sr_(2)Nb_(3)o_(10) nanosheets was prepared to demonstrate the application of an ultraviolet(UV) *** UV photodetector exhibited outstanding photocurrent and responsivity with a responsivity of 3×10^(5) A·W^(-1) at 5 V bias under 280 nm illumination,a photocurrent of 60 nA,and an on/off ratio of 3×10^(2).

the risk of mpox importation and subsequent outbreak potential in Chinese mainland: a retrospective statistical modelling study

Backg.ound the 2022-2023 mpox(monkeypox)outbreak has spread rapidly across multiple countries in the non-endemic reg.on,mainly among men who have sex with men(MSM).In this study,we aimed to evaluate mpox's importation risk,border screening effectiveness and the risk of local outbreak in Chinese *** We estimated the risk of mpox importation in Chinese mainland from April 14 to September 11,2022 using the number of reported mpox cases during this multi-country outbreak from *** and the international air-travel data from official Aviation *** constructed a probabilistic model to simulate the effectiveness of a border screening scenario during the mpox outbreak and a hypothetical scenario with less stringent quarantine *** we further evaluated the mpox outbreak potential given that undetected mpox infections were introduced into men who have sex with men,considering different transmissibility,population immunity and population *** We found that the reduced international air-travel volume and stringent border entry policy decreased about 94% and 69% mpox importations *** the quarantine policy,15-19% of imported infections would remain *** a case of mpox is introduced into active MSM population with almost no population immunity,the risk of triggering local transmission is estimated at 42%,and would rise to>95% with over six *** our study demonstrates that the reduced international air-travel volume and stringent border entry policy during the CovID-19 pandemic reduced mpox importations ***,the risk could be sub-stantially higher with the recovery of air-travel volume to pre-pandemic *** could emerge as a public health threat for Chinese mainland given its large MSM community.

A case study of continental shelf waves in the northwestern South China Sea induced by winter storms in 2021

this study aims to investigate characteristics of continental shelf wave(CSW)on the northwestern continental shelf of the South China Sea(SCS)induced by winter storms in *** and cruise observations,tidal gauge data at stations Hong Kong,Zhapo and Qinglan and sea surface wind data from January 1 to February 28,2021 are used to examine the relationship between along-shelf wind and sea level *** events of CSWs driven by the along-shelf sea surface wind are detected from wavelet spectra of tidal gauge *** signals are triply peaked at periods of 56 h,94 h and 180 h,propagating along the coast with phase speed ranging from 6.9 m/s to18.9 m/*** dispersion relation shows their property of the Kelvin mode of *** develop a simple method to estimate amplitude of sea surface fluctuation by along-shelf *** results are comparable with the observation data,suggesting it is *** mode 2 CSWs fits very well with the mooring current velocity *** results from rare current help to understand wave-current interaction in the northwestern SCS.

Effects of soil crust on the collapsing erosion of colluvial deposits with granite residual soil

Collapsing erosion is a unique phenomenon commonly observed on the granite residue hillslopes in the tropical and subtropical reg.ons of southern China,characterized by its abrupt occurrence and significant erosion ***,the impacts of soil crust conditions on the erosion of colluvial deposits with granite residual soils have only been studied to a limited *** address this issue,this study investigates the impacts of three soil crust conditions(i.e.,without crust,10-minute crust,and 20-minute crust)on gully morphology,rainfall infiltration,and runoff and sediment yield during slope erosion of colluvial deposits with granite residues(classified as Acrisols)in Yudu County,ganzhou City,Jiangxi Province,China,using simulated rainfall tests and photographic *** results showed that as the strength of the soil crust increased,the capacity of moisture infiltration and the width and depth of the gully as well as the sediment concentration and yield ratio decreased;at the same time,the runoff ratio *** sediment yield in the without-crust test was found to be 1.24 and 1.43 times higher than that observed in the 10-minute crust and 20-minute crust tests,*** results indicate that soil crusts can effectively prevent slope erosion and moisture infiltration,while providing valuable insights for the management of soil erosion in natural environments.

Dg Hosting Capacity Assessment Considering Dependence Among Wind Speed,Solar Radiation,and Load Demands

Dependence of distributed generation(Dg.outputs and load plays an essential role in renewable energy *** paper presents a novel Dg hosting capacity(DgHC)evaluation method for distribution networks considering highdimensional dependence relations among solar radiation,wind speed,and various load types(i.e.,commercial,residential,and industrial).First,an advanced dependence modeling method called regular vine(R-vine)is applied to capture the complex dependence structure of solar radiation,wind speed,commercial loads,industrial loads,and residential ***,a chanceconstrained DgHC evaluation model is employed to figure out maximum hosting capacity of each Dg and its optimal allocation plan with different operational ***,a Benders decomposition algorithm is also employed to reduce computational *** proposed approaches are validated using a set of historical data from *** show dependence among different Dgs and loads has significant impact on hosting *** also suggest using the R-vine model to capture dependence among distributed energy resources(DERs)and *** finding provides useful advice for distribution networks in installing renewable energy generations.

Dynamic speed guidance for vehicles in on-ramp merging zones is instrumental in alleviating traffic congestion on urban *** enhance compliance with recommended speeds,the development of a dynamic speed-guidance mechanism that accounts for heterogeneity in human driving styles is *** intelligent connected technologies that provide real-time vehicular data in these merging locales,this study proposes such a guidance ***,we integrate a multi-agent consensus algorithm into a multi-vehicle framework operating.on both the mainline and the ramp,thereby facilitating harmonized speed and spacing ***,we conduct an analysis of the behavioral traits inherent to drivers of varied styles to refine speed planning in a more efficient and reliable ***,we investigate a closed-loop feedback approach for speed guidance that incorporates the driver’s execution rate,thereby enabling dynamic recalibration of advised speeds and ensuring fluid vehicular integration into the *** results substantiate that a dynamic speed guidance system incorporating driving styles offers effective support for human drivers in seamless mainline merging.

Kinetic-boosted Co_(2) electroreduction to formate via synergistic electric-thermal field on hierarchical bismuth with amorphous layer

Electrocatalytic converting Co_(2) into chemical products has emerged as a promising approach to achieving carbon ***,we report a bismuth-based catalyst with high curvature terminal and amorphous layer which fabricated via two-step electrodeposition achieves stable formate output in a wide voltage window of 600 *** Faraday efficiency(FE) of formate reached up to 99.4% at-0.8 V *** and it remained constant for more than 92 h at-15 mA cm^(-2).More intriguingly,FE formate of95.4% can be realized at a current density of industrial grade(-667.7 mA cm^(-2)) in flow *** special structure promoted Co_(2) adsorption and reduced its activation energy and enhanced the electric-thermal field and K^(+) enrichment which accelerated the reaction *** situ spectroscopy and theoretical calculation further confirmed that the introduction of amorphous structure is beneficial to adsorpting Co_(2)and stabling.oCHo *** work provides special insights to fabricate efficient electrocatalysts by means of structural and crystal engineering and makes efforts to realize the industrialization of bismuth-based catalysts.
