We carried out low-resolution optical spectroscopy of 51 main-belt asteroids, most of which have highly-inclined orbits. They are selected from D-type candidates in the SDSS-MOC 4 catalog. Using the University of Hawaii 2.2 m telescope and the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics 2 m telescope in India, we determined the spectral types of 38 asteroids. Among them, eight asteroids were classified as D-type asteroids. Fractions of D-type asteroids are 3.0 ± 1.1% for low orbital inclination main-belt asteroids and 7.3 ± 2.0% for high orbital inclination main-belt asteroids. The results of our study indicate that some D-type asteroids were formed within the ecliptic region between the main belt and Jupiter, and were then perturbed by Jupiter.

Posterior cervical fixation with various forms of instrumentation has been used for reconstruction in cases of traumatic disorders and degenerative or tumor-related dysfunction of the cervical spine. Recently, posterior plate and rod techniques using lateral mass screws or pedicle screws have been reported to show excellent fusion rates (Xu et al.,2010).

Long-term climate changes related with urbanization in Tokyo, Japan, and recent temperature and heavy rainfall distribution in the Tokyo metropolitan area are reviewed. A relatively high temperature increase in annual mean temperature at the rate of 3.0°C/century was detected in Tokyo for the period 1901–2015. Some observational evidence showed the existence of both thermal and mechanical effects of urbanization on recent heavy rainfall occurrences, and modeling studies also support precipitation enhancement. Urban influences were recognized in other climatological elements, such as number of fog days, relative humidity, and wind circulation.

为快速准确预测袋型阻尼密封泄漏特性和动力学特性,针对传统单控制体Bulk Flow模型预测精度低、无法预测交叉动力系数的问题,提出了袋型阻尼密封双控制体Bulk Flow模型和动力学特性数值预测方法,并开发了计算程序。首先,依据边界层理论,将袋型密封腔室划分为两个控制体,推导了控制体的连续性、周向动量和能量方程,引入Swamee-Jain和takahashi方程,计算流体-壁面间和流体-流体间的周向黏性摩擦力;其次,采用牛顿-拉夫森算法和摄动分析法分别求解0阶和1阶控制方程,获得各刚度、阻尼动力特性系数;然后,通过与袋型阻尼密封泄漏量和动力特性系数的实验值、单控制体Bulk Flow模型和非定常计算流体动力学(CFD)数值结果进行比较,验证了模型和方法的准确性和可靠性;最后,研究了转子转速(10 000、15 000、20 000 r/min)和预旋比(0.067、0.724、0.997)对袋型阻尼密封动力学特性的影响。结果表明:所发展的模型和方法具有计算速度快、预测精度高(泄漏量预测误差小于6%,动力特性系数预测误差小于38%)的优点;转子转速和进口预旋的增大均会导致袋型阻尼密封有效阻尼显著减小,穿越频率显著增大,易诱发轴系失稳。

Modeling Arctic Ocean heat transport and warming episodes in the 20th century caused by the intruding Atlantic Water

This study investigates the Arctic Ocean warming episodes in the 20th century using both a high-resolution coupled global climate model and historical observations. The model, with no flux adjustment, reproduces well the Atlantic Water core temperature （AWCT） in the Arctic Ocean and shows that four largest decadalscale warming episodes occurred in the 1930s, 70s, 80s, and 90s, in agreement with the hydrographic observational data. The difference is that there was no pre-warming prior to the 1930s episode, while there were two pre-warming episodes in the 1970s and 80s prior to the 1990s, leading the 1990s into the largest and prolonged warming in the 20th century. Over the last century, the simulated heat transport via Fram Strait and the Barents Sea was estimated to be, on average, 31.32 TW and 14.82 TW, respectively, while the Bering Strait also provides 15.94 TW heat into the west- ern Arctic Ocean. Heat transport into the Arctic Ocean by the Atlantic Water via Fram Strait and the Barents Sea correlates significantly with AWCT （ C = 0.75 ） at 0- lag. The modeled North Atlantic Oscillation （NAO） index has a significant correlation with the heat transport （ C = 0.37 ）. The observed AWCT has a significant correlation with both the modeled AWCT （ C =0.49） and the heat transport （ C =0.41 ）. However, the modeled NAO index does not significantly correlate with either the observed AWCT （ C = 0.03 ） or modeled AWCT （ C = 0.16 ） at a zero-lag, indicating that the Arctic climate system is far more complex than expected.

A voltammetric determination of possible organic pollutants such as diol and phenolic compounds in water was studied using ferroceneboronic acid（FBA） as a redox-active marker.A cyclic voltammogram of FBA exhibited a pair of oxidation and reduction peaks at 230 and 170 mV at pH 7.0,respectively,while another pair of redox peaks was observed in the presence of diol or phenolic compounds tested.The results were rationalized based on the formation of boronate esters of FBA with the added compounds.The changes in the redox peak currents were dependent on the concentration of the additives,suggesting a usefulness of FBA in the electrochemical determination of these compounds in water.

Background Cyclooxygenase-2 （COX-2） is overexpressed during airway inflammation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease （COPD） patients.Single nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） in the COX-2 promoter might contribute to differential COX-2 expression and subsequent interindividual variability in susceptibility to COPD.We investigated the association between COX-2 （-765G〉C,-1195G〉A） polymorphisms and COPD susceptibility in Japanese and Chinese patients.Methods COX-2 genotypes were determined by polymerase chain reaction,restriction fragment length polymorphism in 230 COPD patients （103 Japanese and 127 Chinese） and 273 healthy controls （129 Japanese and 144 Chinese）.Results The frequency of-1195AA homozygote was significantly higher than the controls in Chinese COPD （adjusted OR=2.43,95% CI 1.14-4.19）,Japanese COPD （adjusted OR=-2.25,95% Cl 1.06-4.76） and combined COPD groups （adjusted OR=2.26,95% CI 1.34-3.99）.There was no difference in COX-2-765G〉C polymorphism between COPD and control groups in either Japanese or Chinese,while more Chinese individuals carried the-765C allele than Japanese in both groups （15.3% vs.2.9% in COPD,18.8% vs.5.5% in control）.Chinese individuals with the haplotype-765G：-1195A were at higher risk for COPD （adjusted OR=1.93,95% CI 1.05-3.55）.Conclusions The COX-2-1195AA genotype is associated with increased risk for COPD in both Japanese and Chinese individuals.Although COX-2-765G〉C polymorphism was not associated with COPD in either ethnic group,the-765C allele frequency was higher in Chinese than Japanese and haplotype-765G-1195A may confer susceptibility to COPD in Chinese.

Packaging Effects on Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor Performance

In this paper, the effects of packaging material and structure of fiber Bragg grating sensor performance are investigated. The effects of thermal expansion coefficient of different embedding materials on the temperature sensitivities of the FBG sensors are studied both theoretically and experimentally with good agreement, which provides a means for selection of FBG packaging material to achieve desired temperature sensitivity. We also demonstrate a 4-point bending structured FBG lateral force sensor that measures up to 242N force with well-preserved reflection spectrum, whereas for 3-point bending structure, multiple-peaks start to occur when applied force reaches 72N.

AIM:To analyze the efficacy and safety of a combination therapy of pegylated interferon(PEG-IFN) α-2b plus ribavirin(RBV) in older Japanese patients(65 years or older) infected with hepatitis C virus(HCV).METHODS:This multicenter study included 938 patients with HCV genotype 1 who received 1.5 μg/kg per week PEG-IFN α-2b plus RBV 600-1000 mg/d for 48 wk and 313 HCV genotype 2 patients who received this treatment for 24 wk.RESULTS:At 24 wk after the end of combination therapy,the overall sustained virological response(SVR) for genotypes 1 and 2 were 40.7% and 79.6%,respectively.The SVR rate decreased signif icantly with age in each genotype,and was markedly reduced in genotype 1(P<0.001).Moreover,the SVR was significantly higher in patients with genotype 1 who were less than 65 years(47.3% of 685) than in those 65 years or older(22.9% of 253)(P<0.001) and was higher in patients with genotype 2 who were less than 65 years(82.9% of 252) than in those 65 years or older(65.6% of 61)(P=0.004).When patients received a dosage at least 80% or more of the target dosage of PEG-IFN α-2b and 60% or more of the target dosage of RBV,the SVR rate significantly increased to 66.5% in patients less than 65 years and to 45.2% in those 65 years or older(P<0.001).Adverse effects resulted in treatment discontinuation more often in patients with genotype 1(14.4%) than in patients with genotype 2(7.3%),especially by patients 65 years or older(24.1%).CONCLUSION:PEG-IFN α-2b plus RBV treatment was effective in chronic hepatitis C patients 65 years or older who completed treatment with at least the minimum acceptable treatment dosage.
