Evaluating the phenolic composition and antioxidant properties of Georgia pecans after in vitro digestion

Acetonic crude extracts from raw and roasted Georgia pecans were prepared and subjected to in vitro gastrointestinal *** and undigested extracts of raw pecan phenolics were then separated into low-and high-molecular-weight(LMW and HMW)fractions via Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography;afterwards,they were characterized by *** LMW fraction consisted primarily of flavan-3-ols and ellagic acid derivatives and following digestion there was an overall loss in phenolics from 16%to 100%.In the HMW fraction,procyanidins with degrees of polymerization ranging from dimers to hexamers were *** digestion,a loss in higher oligomeric procyanidins was observed,along with a significant increase in quantity of *** increase was attributed to the dimerization of(+)-catechin/(-)-epicatechin and the scission of larger procyanidins,mainly tetramers to *** loss of phenolics following digestion,as seen by HPLC characterization,was reflected in reduced total phenolics content and antioxidant capacity,as determined by selected in vitro antioxidant assays.

Drastic changes in the environment during a lifetime require developmental and physiological flexibility to ensure animal survival. Desert locusts, Schistocerca gregaria, live in an extremely changeable environment, which alternates between periods of rainfall and abundant food and periods of drought and starvation. In order to survive, locusts display an extreme form ofphenotypic plasticity that allows them to rapidly cope with these changing conditions by converting from a cryptic solitarious phase to a swarming, voracious gregarious phase. To accomplish this, locusts possess different conserved mediators of phenotypic plasticity. recently, attention has been drawn to the possible roles of protein kinases in this process. In addition to cyclic AMP-dependent protein kinase （PKA）, also cyclic GMP-dependent protein kinase （PKG）, which was shown to be involved in changes of food-related behavior in a variety of insects, has been associated with locust phenotypic plasticity. In this article, we study the transcript levels of the S. gregaria orthologue of the foraging gene that encodes a PKG in different food-related, developmental and crowding conditions. Transcript levels of the S. gregariaforaging orthologue are highest in different parts of the gut and differ between isolated and crowd-reared locusts. They change when the availability of food is altered, display a distinct pattern with higher levels after a moult and decrease with age during postembryonic development.

Among geriatric patients suffering from severe but inoperable aortic valve stenosis because of high surgical risk and severe co-morbidities,[1] some benefit from trans-aortic valve implantation (TAVI) while others are deemed too frail for TAVI and received medical treatment (MT). This study conducted in frail geriatric patients aimed at describing the patienfs characteristics and the mortality rate associated with the treatment option (MT vs. TAVI) as well as the patient's characteristics associated with one-year mortality.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development outlines 17 individual Sustainable Development Goals （SDGs） that guide the needs of practice for many professional disciplines around the world, including engineering, research, policy, and development. The SDGs represent commitments to reduce poverty, hunger, ill health, gender inequality, environmental degradation, and lack of access to clean water and sanitation. If a typical reductionist approach is employed to address and optimize individual goals, it may lead to a failure in technological, policy, or managerial development interventions through unin- tended consequences in other goals. This study uses a systems approach to understand the fundamental dynamics between the SDGs in order to identify potential synergies and antagonisms. A conceptual system model was constructed to illustrate the causal relationships between SDGs, examine system structures using generic system archetypes, and identify leverage points to effectively influence intentional and minimize unintentional changes in the system. The structure of interactions among the SDGs reflects three archetypes of system behavior： reinforcing Growth, Limits to Growth, and Growth and Underinvestment. The leverage points identified from the conceptual model are gender equality, sustainable management of water and sanitation, alternative resources, sustainable livelihood standards, and global partnerships. Such a conceptual system analysis of SDGs can enhance the likelihood that the development community will broaden its understanding of the potential synergistic benefits of their projects on resource management, environmental sustainability, and climate change. By linking the interactions and feedbacks of those projects with economic gains, women＇s empowerment, and educational equality, stakeholders can recognize holistic improvements that can be made to the quality of life of many of the world＇s poor.

Background:Children spend substantial time in childcare,and the reasons parents choose a particular childcare type may differ by ***,little is known about how childcare type influences habitual(full day)activity levels among ***,exploring patterns between childcare type and habitual physical activity(PA)(i.e.,light,moderate-to-vigorous PA(MVPA),and total PA)and sedentary time(ST)in young Canadian children is ***:A nationally representative sample of preschoolers from Cycles 3 and 4 of the Canadian Health Measures Survey was used in this cross-sectional *** type(e.g.,center-based childcare,home-based childcare,home with parent,kindergarten)was reported by *** wore an Actical accelerometer for 7 *** and population-spcific cut-points were applied to delineate PA intensities and *** means and sample totals were calculated to examine average daily and hourly rates of ***:Preschoolers’rates of MVPA and total PA from the 4 childcare arrangements ranged from 65.99 min/day to 74.62 min/day(5.48-6.18 min/h)and 274.20 min/day to 281.66 min/day (22.69-23.21 min/h),respectively,while ST ranged from 443.13 min/day to 460.57 min/day(36.80-37.31 min/h).No significant differences were observed in daily or hourly rates of ***:This study provides a snapshot of the levels of PA and ST among preschoolers in various childcare settings at a national level,with no differences observed in habitual activity levels based on childcare *** research is needed to clarify the relationship between young children’s PA and childcare type,with consideration given to the quality of the childcare settings.
