BACKGROUnD Oxidative damage of DnA and RnA has been associated with mortality of patients with different ***,there is no published data on the potential use of DnA and RnA oxidative damage to predict the prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)undergoing liver transplantation(LT).AIM To determine whether patients with increased DnA and RnA oxidative damage prior to LT for HCC have a poor LT *** Patients with HCC who underwent LT were included in this observational and retrospective *** levels of all three oxidized guanine species(OGS)were measured prior to LT since guanine is the nucleobase that forms DnA and RnA most prone to *** mortality at 1 year was the end-point *** Surviving patients(n=101)showed lower serum OGS levels(P=0.01)and lower age of the liver donor(P=0.03)than non-surviving patients(n=13).An association between serum OGS levels prior to LT and 1-year LT(odds ratio=2.079;95%confidence interval=1.356-3.189;P=0.001)was found in the logistic regression *** The main new finding was that high serum OGS concentration prior to LT was associated with the mortality 1 year after LT in HCC patients.

Enhancing Tropical Cyclone Intensity Estimation from Satellite Imagery through Deep Learning Techniques

This study first utilizes four well-performing pre-trained convolutional neural networks(Cnns) to gauge the intensity of tropical cyclones(TCs) using geostationary satellite infrared(IR) *** models are trained and tested on TC cases spanning from 2004 to 2022 over the western north Pacific *** enhance the models performance,various techniques are employed,including fine-tuning the original Cnn models,introducing rotation augmentation to the initial dataset,temporal enhancement via sequential imagery,integrating auxiliary physical information,and adjusting *** optimized Cnn model,i.e.,visual geometry group network(VGGnet),for TC intensity estimation is ultimately *** applied to the test data,the model achieves a relatively low mean absolute error(MAE) of 4.05 m s~(-1).To improve the interpretability of the model,the SmoothGrad combined with the Integrated Gradients approach is *** analyses reveal that the VGGnet model places significant emphasis on the distinct inner core region of a TC when estimating its ***,it partly takes into account the configuration of cloud systems as input features for the model,aligning well with meteorological *** several improvements made to this model's performance offer valuable insights for enhancing TC intensity forecasts through deep learning.

Plants produce secondary chemicals that may vary along with latitude due to changing abiotic and biotic stress gradients and local environmental *** apart the individual and combined effects of these different abiotic,such as soil nutrients,and biotic factors,such as soil biota and herbivores,on secondary chemicals is critical for understanding plant responses to changing *** conducted an experiment at different latitudes in China,using tallow tree(Triadica sebifera)seedlings sourced from a population at 31°*** seedlings were cultivated in gardens located at low,middle and high latitudes,with either local soil or soil from the original seed collection site(origin soil).The seedlings were exposed to natural levels of aboveground herbivores or had them *** secondary chemicals(both foliar and root),aboveground herbivores and soil characteristics were *** showed that most leaf and root secondary metabolites depended on the interaction of the experimental site and soil *** and root phenolic and tannin concentrations were higher at the middle latitude site,especially in the origin *** and foliar flavonoid concentrations increased when aboveground herbivores were *** communities depended strongly on soil *** different responses of tannins versus flavonoids suggest that these two chemical classes differ in their responses to the varying abiotic and biotic factors in these sites along *** together,our results emphasize the importance of considering the interactive effects of local environmental conditions,soil properties and herbivory in regulating plant chemical defenses.

Background The nationally determined contribution（nDC） presented by Argentina within the framework of the Paris Agreement is aligned with the decisions made in the context of the United nations Framework Conven-tion on Climate Change（UnFCCC） on the reduction of emissions derived from deforestation and forest degradation, as well as forest carbon conservation（REDD+）. In addition, climate change constitutes one of the greatest threats to forest biodiversity and ecosystem services. However, the soil organic carbon（SOC） stocks of native forests have not been incorporated into the Forest Reference Emission Levels calculations and for conservation planning under cli-mate variability due to a lack of information. The objectives of this study were:（i） to model SOC stocks to 30 cm of native forests at a national scale using climatic, topographic and vegetation as predictor variables, and（ii） to relate SOC stocks with spatial–temporal remotely sensed indices to determine biodiversity conservation concerns due to threats from high inter-annual climate *** We used 1040 forest soil samples（0–30 cm） to generate spatially explicit estimates of SOC native forests in Argentina at a spatial resolution of approximately 200 m. We selected 52 potential predictive environmental covari-ates, which represent key factors for the spatial distribution of SOC. All covariate maps were uploaded to the Google Earth Engine cloud-based computing platform for subsequent modelling. To determine the biodiversity threats from high inter-annual climate variability, we employed the spatial–temporal satellite-derived indices based on Enhanced Vegetation Index（EVI） and land surface temperature（LST） images from Landsat *** SOC model（0–30 cm depth） prediction accounted for 69% of the variation of this soil property across the whole native forest coverage in Argentina. In today’s manufacturing industries,hard competition between rival firms makes it compulsory for researchers to design lighter and cheaper machine components due to the megatrends of cost-effectiveness and *** this point,aluminum syntactic foams(ASFs)are new-generation engineering composites and come into the upfront as a *** to their features like low density,sufficient elongation,and perfect energy absorption ability,these advanced foams have been considerably seductive for many industrial sectors *** this study,an industrial-oriented automatic die casting technology was used for the first time to manufacture the combination of AA7075/porous expanded clay(PEC).Micro evaluations(optical and FESEM)reveal that there is a homogenous particle distribution in the foam samples,and inspections are compatible with the other ASF ***,T6 aging heat treatment was operated on one half of the produced foams to explore the probable impact of aging on the compressive *** results show that PEC particles can be an alternative to expensive hollow spheres used in the previous ***,a favorable relationship is ascertained between the aging treatment and mechanical properties such as compression strength and plateau strength.

Predicting effects of tunnel throttling of annular freeway vehicular flow by a continuum model

Fluid flow throttling is common in industrial and building services *** tunnel throttling of vehicular flow is caused by the abrupt number reduction of roadway lane,as the tunnel has a lower lane number than in the roadway normal *** predict the effects of tunnel throttling of annular freeway vehicular flow,a three-lane continuum model is ***Ⅲof the tunnel is completely blocked due to the need of tunnel rehabilitation,*** exists mandatory net lane-changing rate from laneⅢto laneⅡjust upstream of the tunnel entrance,which is described by a model of random number generated through a golden section *** net-changing rate between adjacent lanes is modeled using a lane-changing time expressed explicitly in algebraic *** paper assumes that the annular freeway has a total length of 100 km,a two-lane tunnel of length 2 km with a speed limit of 80 km/*** free flow speeds on lanesⅠ,ⅡandⅢare assumed to be 110,100 and 90 km/h *** on the three-lane continuum model,numerical simulations of vehicular flows on the annular freeway with such a tunnel are conducted with a reliable numerical method of 3rd-order *** results reveal that the vehicular flow has a smaller threshold of traffic jam formation in comparison with the case without tunnel *** fuel consumption can be estimated by interpolation with time averaged grid traffic speed and an assumed curve of vehicle *** vehicle fuel consumption is lane number dependent,distributes with initial density concavely,ranging from 5.56 to 8.00 *** throttling leads to an earlier traffic jam formation in comparison with the case without tunnel throttling.
