Background:There are insufficient data regarding the impact of acute respiratory distress syndrome related to coronavirus disease 2019(C-ARDs)–caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(sARs-Cov-2)–on health-related quality of life(HRQoL)and the occurrence of stress-related disorders in coronavirus disease 2019(COvID-19)intensive care unit(ICU)*** aim of this study is to assess HRQoL and the occurrence of stress-related disorders(acute stress disorder[AsD]and post-traumatic stress disorder[PTsD])in C-ARDs ICU survivors at 1 and 6 months following hospital ***:This prospective observational study included 90 patients treated for C-ARDs between march and May 2020 in the ICU and discharged alive from the *** patients included in the study were contacted by telephone 1 month and 6 months post-hospital discharge to assess the presence of symptoms of stress-related disorders and HRQoL using the 8-item Treatment Outcome Post-traumatic stress Disorder scale(TOP-8)and 36-item short Form survey(sF-36).We performed univariate analyses to evaluate differences between patients who developed stress and those who did *** also compared sF-36 scores in our sample with data from the general spanish population and from cohorts of non–C-ARDs and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-1(sARs-Cov-1)***:There are 24.1%of patients showed symptoms of AsD;in 13.5%of cases the symptoms persisted 6 months *** factors for the development of symptoms of AsD and PTsD are younger age,female sex,obesity,a previously diagnosed psychiatric disease and disease severity at ICU admission(Ps greatly affected by C-ARDs;however,there was improvement on all scales of the sF-36 at the 6-month follow-up(PsF-36 score of our sample was higher than those previously reported in non–C-ARDs survivors(Psical functioning(78.0 vs.52.0),role functioning/physical(51.0 vs.31.0),bodily pain(76.1 vs.57

The N-representability conditions on the reduced second-order reduced density matrix (2-RDM), impose restrictions not only in the context of reduced density matrix theory (RDMT), but also on functionals advanced in one-matrix theory such as natural orbital functional theory (NOFT), and on functionals depending on the one-electron density such as those of density functional theory (DFT). We review some aspects of the applications of these N-representability conditions in these theories and present some conclusions.

Implementation of the Hough Transform for Iris Detection and segmentation

The iris is used as a reference for the study of unique biometric marks in people. The analysis of how to extract the iris characteristic information represents a fundamental challenge in image analysis, due to the implications it presents: detection of relevant information, data coding schemes, etc. For this reason, in the search for extraction of useful and characteristic information, approximations have been proposed for its analysis. In this article, it is presented a scheme to extract the relevant information based on the Hough transform. This transform helps to find primitive geometries in the irises, which are used to characterize each one of these. The results of the implementation of the algorithm of the Hough transform applied to the location and segmentation of the iris by means of its circumference are presented in the paper. Two public databases of iris images were used: UBIRIs v2 and CAsIA-Irisv4, which were acquired under the same conditions and controlled environments. In the pre-processing stage the edges are found from the noise elimination in the image through the Canny detector. subsequently, to the images of the detected edges, the Hough transform is applied to the disposition of the geometries detected.

Use of pocket pulse oximeters for detecting peripheral arterial disease in patients with diabetes mellitus

Recent Aims: New diagnostic methods are needed to detect peripheral arterial disease easier than using the ankle-brachial index measured by Doppler devices. We investigated whether the use of pocket pulse oximeters could meet sensitivity and specificity criteria as screening method to detect significant peripheral arterial perfusion deficits. Methods: We measured oxygen saturation (saO2) at index fingers and great toes (on horizontal and elevated 30°) by a pocket pulse oximeter in 250 subjects with diabetes mellitus attending the outpatient clinic. A finger-to-toe saO2 gradient greater than 2% was considered abnormal. Ankle-brachial index was measured by a hand held Doppler device. Peripheral arterial disease was defined as an ankle-brachial index less than 0.9. Results: A total of 1392 (93%) valid saO2 readings were obtained. Twenty-seven (11%) patients were excluded due to not having measurable saO2 finger-to-toe gradients. A total of 223 patients were analyzed. Peripheral arterial disease was detected in 47 (21%) patients. A finger-to-toe saO2 gradient greater than 2% had sensitivity 42.6% (95% CI 30.0% - 55.3%), specificity 79.1% (95% CI 75.7% - 82.6%), positive predictive value 35.7% (95% CI 25.2% - 46.4%), negative predictive value 83.4% (95% CI 79.8 - 87.1), positive likelihood ratio 2.03 (95% CI 1.23 - 3.17) and negative likelihood ratio 0.73 (95% CI 0.54 - 0.93) to detect peripheral arterial disease. The area under the receiving operating characteristic curve was 0.69 (95% CI 0.62 - 0.77). Conclusion: Pocket pulse oximeters showed insufficient sensitivity as screening method for detecting peripheral arterial disease in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Analysis of MIF,FCGR2A and FCGR3A gene polymorphisms with susceptibility to pulmonary tuberculosis in Moroccan population

In order to investigate the influence of functional polymorphisms of macrophage migration inhibitory factor （M/F）, Fcg receptors CD16A （FCGR3A） and CD32A （FCGR2A） genes on susceptibility to pulmonary tuberculosis （PTB） in the Moroccan population, we analyzed 123 patients with PTB and 154 healthy controls. The genotyping for M/F-173 （G/C）（rs755622）, FCGR2A- 131H/R （rs 1801274） and FCGR3A-158v/F （rs396991） was carried out using TaqMan sNP Genotyping Assay method. We found a statistically significant in- crease of the MIF-173CC homozygote genotype and M/F-173＂C allele frequencies in PTB patients compared with healthy controls （17.07% versus 5.84%, P = 0.003; and 35.37% versus 26.30%, P = 0.02; respectively）. In contrast, no association was observed between FCGR2A-131H/R and FCGR3A-158v/F polymorphisms and tuberculosis disease. Our finding suggests that M/F-173℃ variant may play an important role in the development of active tuberculosis.

Evaluation of the Influence of Hyoscine Butylbromide on the Oral Bioavailability of Lansoprazole in Healthy Adult volunteers

The gastroesophageal reflux and/or peptic ulcer diseases are clinical conditions that occur usually accompanied of symptomatic pain. Lansoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor class drug is widely used in clinical practice for treatment of these diseases. However, its efficacy can be improved by combining with spasmolytic and/or visceral analgesic such as hyoscine butylbromide. since hyoscine butylbromide is barely absorbed and exerts some local effects at gastrointestinal tract which may modify the absorption of lansoprazole, it is important to establish if there is a pharmacokinetic interaction after the oral concomitant administration of both drugs. For this objective, twenty-five subjects received under a crossover design an oral administration of lansoprazole (15 mg) plus placebo or a fixed-dose combination with hyoscine butiylbromide (15 mg + 10 mg, respectively). Plasma samples were obtained at different times during 10 hours. Lansoprazole plasma concentrations were determined by a high performance liquid chromatography method coupled to tandem mass spectrometry. Fixed-dose combination was well tolerated. Lansoprazole pharmacokinetic parameters were: Cmax 621.81 ± 212.79 and 450.38 ± 192.14 ng/mL;AUCsub>0sub>sub>-sub>sub>tsub> 1941.36 ± 845.57 and 1454.66 ± 757.28 ng·h/mL;tmax 2.83 ± 0.99 and 3.40 ± 1.82h;t1/2 1.35 ± 0.39 and 1.45 ± 0.51 h, for alone and combined fixed-dose formulation, respectively. Pharmacokinetic parameters were compared by analysis of variance and ratios of AUCsub>0sub>sub>-sub>sub>tsub>, Cmax and 90% confidence intervals obtained. since confidence intervals exceed the 80% - 125% limits for these parameters, we conclude that there is a significantly pharmacokinetic interaction of lansoprazole when it is administered concomitantly with hyoscine butylbromide.

Throughout evolution, plants have evolved sophisticated adaptive responses that allow them to grow with a limited supply of phos-phate, the preferential form in which the essential macronutrient phosphorus is absorbed by plants. Most of these responses are aimed to increase phosphate availability and acquisition through the roots, to optimize its usage in metabolic processes, and to protect plants from the deleterious effects of phosphate deficiency stress. Regulation of these adaptive responses requires fine percep- tion of the external and internal phosphate levels, and a complex signal transduction pathway that integrates information on the phosphate status at the whole-plant scale. The molecular mecha-nisms that participate in phosphate homeostasis include transcriptional control of gene expression, RNA silencing mediated by microRNAs, regulatory non-coding RNAs of miRNA activity, phosphate transporter trafficking, and post-translational modification of proteins, such as phosphorylation, sumoylation and ubiquitination. such a varied regulatory repertoire reflects the complexity intrinsic to phosphate surveying and signaling pathways. Here, we describe these regulatory mechanisms, emphasizing the increasing importance of ubiquitination in the control of phosphate starvation responses.

Could Low Hdl-Cholesterol Levels Be an Unvalued Predictor of Cancer Risk?: A Retrospective Case study

Background: The relationship between serum lipid profile levels and cancer risk remained uncertain. Recently, it had been reported a significant inverse association between high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) and the risk of incident cancer that was independent of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), age or sex. Objective: The aim of our study was to evaluate the behavior of HDL in cancer patients and in healthy population. Methods: We created a retrospectively search strategy in the laboratory information system (LIs). We filtered and searched those patients with CEA within 5 - 20 ng/ml and any value of HDL and corroborated the presence of cancer (Group 1 (G1)) or not (Group 2 (G2)). Moreover, we searched a control group (patients in outpatient oncology clinic) to observe the values of HDL. Comparisons and statistical logistic regression models were applied to link the levels of this biomarkers and cancer risk. Results: We examined 852 valid patients, median age 62 (50 - 73) years. Within the search strategy group, G2 showed highest levels of HDL (54 (43 - 67) mg/dl) and lowest CEA levels (6.7 (5.7 - 8.4) ng/ml) comparing with G1: HDL (47 (37 - 60) mg/dl) and the CEA (7.9 (6.2 - 10.9) ng/ml);p p r2: 0.092;p p = 0.001)] and CEA [OR: 1.115 (1.060 - 1.174), (p s independent predictors of cancer. Conclusion: Our findings confirmed the inverse association of HDL levels between healthy populations and were diagnosed with cancer. Moreover, in a random population, patients with cancer presented lower HDL values compared to those without cancer. Therefore, it could demonstrate the possible positive predictive value of low HDL related to cancer risk.
