For a point charge between two grounded conductor planes forming a 60° angle, the potential and electric field generated by point charge for Yukawa’s potential (e-μr/r) and Coulomb’s potential (1/r) are modeled and simulated. The expression for the potential that generalizes the cases discussed in López-Mariño, M. and Trujillo Caballero, J. (2017) Point Charges and Conducting Planes for Yukawa’s Potential and Coulomb’s Potential. Journal of Electromagnetic Analysis and Applications, 9, 135-146. https://***/10.4236/jemaa.2017.910012 is presented. Graphs for the potential and electric field for both cases are showed using Maple, that of Coulomb and that of Yukawa for different values of μ . The purpose of this work is to offer students a practical guide for problem analysis of electrostatics using Maple’s capabilities as a computational tool.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is among the most frequent etiologies of cirrhosis worldwide,and it is associated with features of metabolic syndrome;the key factor influencing its prognosis is the progression of liver fibrosis.This review aimed to propose a practical and stepwise approach to the evaluation and management of liver fibrosis in patients with NAFLD,analyzing the currently available literature.In the assessment of NAFLD patients,it is important to identify clinical,genetic,and environmental determinants of fibrosis development and its progression.To properly detect fibrosis,it is important to take into account the available methods and their supporting scientific evidence to guide the approach and the sequential selection of the best available biochemical scores,followed by a complementary imaging study(transient elastography,magnetic resonance elastography or acoustic radiation force impulse)and finally a liver biopsy,when needed.To help with the selection of the most appropriate method a Fagan′s nomogram analysis is provided in this review,describing the diagnostic yield of each method and their post-test probability of detecting liver fibrosis.Finally,treatment should always include diet and exercise,as well as controlling the components of the metabolic syndrome,+/-vitamin E,considering the presence of sleep apnea,and when available,allocate those patients with advanced fibrosis or high risk of progression into clinical trials.The final end of this approach should be to establish an opportune diagnosis and treatment of liver fibrosis in patients with NAFLD,aiming to decrease/stop its progression and improve their prognosis.

Soil salinity is a growing problem around the world with special relevance in farmlands. The ability to sense and respond to environmental stimuli is among the most fundamental processes that enable plants to survive. At the cellular level, the Salt Overly Sensitive （SOS） signaling pathway that comprises SOS3, SOS2, and SOS1 has been proposed to mediate cellular signaling under salt stress, to maintain ion homeostasis. Less well known is how cellularly heterog- enous organs couple the salt signals to homeostasis maintenance of different types of cells and to appropriate growth of the entire organ and plant. Recent evidence strongly indicates that different regulatory mechanisms are adopted by roots and shoots in response to salt stress. Several reports have stated that, in roots, the SOS proteins may have novel roles in addition to their functions in sodium homeostasis. SOS3 plays a critical role in plastic development of lateral roots through modulation of auxin gradients and maxima in roots under mild salt conditions. The SOS proteins also play a role in the dynamics of cytoskeleton under stress. These results imply a high complexity of the regulatory networks involved in plant response to salinity. This review focuses on the emerging complexity of the SOS signaling and SOS protein functions, and highlights recent understanding on how the SOS proteins contribute to different responses to salt stress besides ion homeostasis.

BACKGROUND A significant number of patients with liver cirrhosis concomitantly develop some type of solid or hematological cancer,including lymphoma.Treatment of patients with lymphoma and cirrhosis is challenging for physicians due to the clinical characteristics related to cirrhosis,including biochemical and functional abnormalities,as well as portal hypertension and lack of scientific evidence,limiting the use of chemotherapy.Currently,experts recommend only offering oncological treatment to patients with compensated cirrhosis.AIM To evaluate the clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes in patients with cirrhosis and lymphoma treated with chemotherapy.METHODS This was a case-control study conducted at a tertiary care center in Mexico.Data was recorded from medical files and from 8658 possible candidates with cirrhosis and/or lymphoma(2000 to 2018).Only 23 cases had both diseases concomitantly;10 patients with cirrhosis and lymphoma(cases)met the selection criteria and were included,and 20 patients with lymphoma(controls)were included and matched according to age,sex,and date of diagnosis,type and clinical stage of lymphoma.All patients received treatment with chemotherapy.For statistical analysis,descriptive statistics,Shapiro-Wilk test,Mann-Whitney U test,chisquare test and Fisher's exact test were used.Survival was evaluated using Kaplan-Meier curves and Log-rank test.RESULTS There were differences in biochemical variables inherent to liver disease and portal hypertension in patients with cirrhosis.The most frequent etiology of cirrhosis was hepatitis C virus(50%);80%were decompensated,the median Child-Turcotte-Pugh score was 7.5(6.75-9.25),and mean Model for End-stage Liver Disease was 11.5±4.50.Regarding lymphomas,non-Hodgkin's were the most common(90%),and diffuse large B cell subtype was the most frequent,with a higher International Prognostic Index in the cases(3 vs 2,P=0.049).The chemotherapy regimens had to be adjusted more frequently in the case group(50%vs 5%,P=0.009).The complications derive

背景社区获得性肺炎(CAP)风险在初级保健中的信息是有限的。我们评估了不同生活方式和共病条件作为初级保健成人CAP的危险因素。方法一项回顾性观察对照研究。使用国家初级保健数据监测系统检索了2009至2013年在西班牙初级保健部门诊断的成人CAP病例。匹配年龄和匹配性别的对照组采用发病率密度抽样(比例2∶1)。以百分比和比值比来表示关联分析。为了避免偏倚效应,建立二项回归模型。结果51 139例患者和102 372例对照组做比较。平均年龄为61.4(19.9)岁。危险因素与CAP的显著相关性如下:艾滋病[比值比(95%可信区间)5.21(4.35~6.27)]、慢性阻塞性肺病(COPD)[2.97(2.84~3.12)]、哮喘[2.16(2.07~2.26)]、吸烟[1.96(1.91~2.02)]和口腔卫生问题[1.45(1.41~1.49)]。患者组中有危险因素存在的平均患病率为82.2%,对照组为69.2%。CAP患病率的增加与危险因素和年龄的累积有关:1个危险因素时,在18~60岁老人中的风险相关性是1.42,在>60岁人中是1.57;2个危险因素时,是1.88和2.35;≥3个危险因素时,是3.11和4.34。结论成人CAP初级保健中的危险因素普遍较高。主要与危险因素相关的是艾滋病、COPD、哮喘、吸烟、口腔卫生问题。我们的风险叠加结果可以帮助临床医生确定肺炎风险较高的患者。

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the most frequent primary liver cancer and presents together with cirrhosis in most cases.In addition to commonly recognized risk factors for HCC development,such as hepatitis B virus/hepatitis C virus infection,age and alcohol/tobacco consumption,there are nutritional risk factors also related to HCC development including high intake of saturated fats derived from red meat,type of cooking(generation of heterocyclic amines)and contamination of foods with aflatoxins.On the contrary,protective nutritional factors include diets rich in fiber,fruits and vegetables,n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and coffee.While the patient is being evaluated for staging and treatment of HCC,special attention should be paid to nutritional support,including proper nutritional assessment and therapy by a multidisciplinary team.It must be considered that these patients usually develop HCC on top of long-lasting cirrhosis,and therefore they could present with severe malnutrition.Cirrhosisrelated complications should be properly addressed and considered for nutritional care.In addition to traditional methods,functional testing,phase angle and computed tomography scan derived skeletal muscle index-L3 are among the most useful tools for nutritional assessment.Nutritional therapy should be centered on providing enough energy and protein to manage the increased requirements of both cirrhosis and cancer.Supplementation with branched-chain amino acids is also recommended as it improves response to treatment,nutritional status and survival,and finally physical exercise must be encouraged and adapted to individual needs.

Influence of Gamma Irradiation on Seedless Citrus Production: Pollen Germination and Fruit Quality

Seedlessness is a desirable characteristic in citrus fruits sold for fresh consumption. Gamma irradiation is widely used to obtain seedless citrus fruits. Here, different clones of the self-incompatible parthenocarpic ‘Moncada’ mandarin, obtained by gamma irradiation, were studied to assess seedlessness, pollen germination, fruit characteristics and qua- lity attributes. Findings indicate that irradiation altered aspects other than seedlessness, such as pollen germination, and some of the clones presented different weight, size, acidity and maturity index. Fruit quality and nutritional bio- components were affected differently;some clones presented no changes compared to the control ‘Moncada’ man-darin, while other clones showed significant differences. In general, all clones examined presented low seed numbers and re- duced pollen viability. Some of these clones, which ripen late in the season and whose fruit quality is maintained or improved, are in the process of registration.

A comparative study of the primary and secondary metabolites of the juice of several mandarin cultivars with different pollination, seed production and parthenocarpic abilities was carried out, and the antioxidant capacity of the hydrophilic fraction was measured. Correlation by a Principal Component Analysis and a Cluster Analysis was used. By a multivariate analysis, the 15 citrus cultivars were clustered into four groups consistently with citrus types. The presented data are an important factor for choosing varieties with high potential as a nutraceutical source. These aspects are necessary as consumers demand prevention of health problems through nutrition and certain fruit quality traits, including fruit size, internal quality, good rind color and easy peeling.

The serum of foxes and red deer from the Province of Soria (northern Spain) was screened in indirect immunofluorescence assays to determine whether these animals could be used as sentinels of the tick-borne pathogens Anaplasma phagocytophilum and Ehrlichia chaffeensis. The results suggest that foxes and red deer would not make good sentinels in epidemiological studies on E. chaffeensis in this region, although red deer could be used as such for the study of A. phagocytophilum transmission.
