The emergence of the internet has transformed all areas of *** includes the universe of scientific publications,with several publishers now exclusively focusing on the electronic format and open access model while expanding to a megajournal *** this context,the pandemic of predatory open access journals(POAJs)and meetings are of grave concern to the academic and research *** new shift within academia produces a variety of new victims;namely,the authors *** turn,scientific knowledge is often discredited,with the public placing less trust in *** more than ever,performing research with integrity and selecting a journal in which to publish requires close attention and ***“predatory movement”has developed increasingly sophisticated techniques for misleading people into believing what seem to be credible professional layouts and legitimate *** such as the Jeffrey Beall’s list,the Cabell’s scholarly Analytics and *** offer some guidance to uncover the“parasitic”intervention of predatory journals and meetings,but specific education in this field is sorely *** work aims to review the main characteristics of predatory journals and meetings and to analyze this topic in the context of forensic and legal medicine research.

Refractive errors are frequently found following cataract surgery and refractive lens *** biometric analysis,selection and calculation of the adequate intraocular lens(IOL)and modern techniques for cataract surgery all contribute to achieving the goal of cataract surgery as a refractive procedure with no refractive ***,in spite of all these advances,residual refractive error still occasionally occurs after cataract surgery and laser in situ keratomileusis(LAsIK)can be considered the most accurate method for its ***-based procedures,such as IOL exchange or piggyback lens implantation are also possible alternatives especially in cases with extreme ametropia,corneal abnormalities,or in situations where excimer laser is *** our review,we have found that piggyback IOL is safer and more accurate than IOL *** aim is to provide a review of the recent literature regarding target refraction and residual refractive error in cataract surgery.

Presbyopia still remains the last frontier of refractive *** surgical management is under constant evolution due to the limitations that exist today with respect to its management,which is probably in relation with the multifactorial basis in which presbyopia is clinically developed in the *** currently,virtually all surgical techniques that have been proposed for its correction are based on the induction of pseudoaccommodation in the presbyopic eye,including ***,the real restoration of accommodation is more complex,and it has been tried by the use of different,so called,“accommodative”pseudophakic intraocular lenses(AIOL).Overall,the reported results with these lenses by independent authors have been modest in relation with the restoration of the accommodative power of the eye and these modest benefits are usually lost with time due to the long term changes in the capsular *** fact made these lenses to be almost abandoned in the last few years,but there are currently other AIOL models being used with innovative mechanisms of action and different anatomical support outside the capsular bag that offer encouraging preliminary results that could bring a new potential of application to these types of *** this article,we will update the modern refractive surgeon about the fundamentals and provide updated information about the outcomes of AIOLs by reviewing the concept of accommodation,the different attempts that have been accomplished in the past,their demonstrated published results in human clinical trials,and the future alternatives that may arrive in the near future.

Thin films of snse and snse2 have been deposited using the ultrasonic spray pyrolysis（UsP） *** the best of our knowledge this is the first report of the deposition of snse and snse2 thin films using a single spray *** use of a single spray solution for obtaining both a p-type material,snse,and an n-type material,snse2,simplifies the deposition *** snse2 thin films have a bandgap of 1.1 eV and the snse thin films have a band gap of 0.9 *** Hall measurements were used to determine the resistivity of the thin *** snse2 thin films show a resistivity of 36.73 Ωcm and n-type conductivity while the snse thin films show a resistivity of 180 Ωcm and p-type conductivity.

The 16 April 2016 earthquake in Ecuador exposed the significant weaknesses concerning the methodological designs to compute—from an economic standpoint—the consequences of a natural hazard-related disaster for productive exchanges and the accumulation of capital in *** study addressed one of these challenges with an innovative ex ante model to measure the partial and net short-term effects of a natural hazard-related catastrophe from an interregional perspective,with the 16 April 2016 earthquake serving as a case *** general,the specified and estimated model follows the approach of the extended Miyazawa model,which endogenizes consumption demand in a standard input–output model with the subnational interrelations and resulting *** to the country’s limitations in its regional account records the input–output matrices for each province of Ecuador had to be estimated,which then allowed transactions carried out between any two sectors within or outside a given province to be identified by means of the RAs *** estimations provide evidence that the net short-term impact on the national accounts was not significant,and under some of the simulated scenarios,based on the official information with respect to earthquake management,the impact may even have had a positive effect on the growth of the national product during 2016.

The"Crime of Flores street"is one of the most famous cases of poisoning to divide public opinion in Portugal in the late 19th century, and it also demonstrated the weaknesses of the Portuguese medicolegal system and attested to the importance of toxicological analysis. Vicente Urbino de Freitas was a prominent doctor, graduating from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra in 1875. He later became Professor of Physiology at the Porto Medical-surgical school and author of a number of books on leprosy. In 1877, he married Maria das Dores Basto sampaio Freitas, and this was followed by the death of a number of her close relatives in suspicious circumstances, notably her brother José António sampaio Junior and nephew Mário Guilherme Augusto de sampaio. This review aims to retell the story of Portugal's first significant medicolegal case as well as the accompanying judicial drama that gave birth to Forensic Toxicology in Portugal and prompted the medicolegal organization that exists today. This research was carried out over a 10-year period and repre-sents undeniable historical value given the rarity of the facts compiled. At the heart of this forensic case was the use of toxicological analyses in court for which the Chemist Antònio Joaquim Ferreira da silva played a key role. This toxicological report revealed high concen-trations of morphine, delphinine and narceine in viscera and in Mario's urine. The Mario's cause of death was attributed to poisoning by opium alkaloids. Despite the strong judicial evidence, doubts still remains as to whether Vicente Urbino de Freitas was a"monster"or a victim of circumstances and a hapless martyr.
