Productivity and Dry Matter Accumulation of Sugarcane Crop under Irrigation and Nitrogen Application at Rio Verde Go, Brazil

Dry matter production and productivity of stem currently are being widely studied in sugarcane, reinforcing the study in question, which aims to assess the accumulation of dry matter of the aerial segment and the productivity of stems of sugarcane crops within the first cycle, at different levels of water replacement (WR) with and without nitrogen fertilization, through a subsurface drip irrigation system. The assay was conducted in the experimental area of the Federal Institut Goiano, Campus Rio Verde, Go, Brazil, in a dystroferric Rhodic Hapludox soil, cerrado phase (savannah), and comprised experimental splits of three furrows with an 8-meter long double row. Experimental design consisted of randomized blocks in a 5 × 2 factorial array, with four replications. Evaluated factors comprised five levels of WR (100%, 75%, 50%, 25% and 0% of field capacity), with and without the application of nitrogen (0 and 100 kg·ha-1 urea). Harvest occurred in May 2013 and stem productivity (SP), productivity of pointers (PP), productivity of straw (PS), harvest index (HI), dry matter of stem (DMS), dry matter of pointers (DMP), the relationship between dry matter of pointer and dry matter of stem (DMP/DMS) and total dry matter of the aerial segment (TDM) were determined. The variables SP, PP, DMS and DMP had a linear growth in proportion to WR increase, whereas HI and DMP/DMS adjusted to a quadratic model. Nitrogen fertilization affected positively the variables SP, HI, DMS and DMP/DMS and occurred interaction to TDM;also increasing the productivity stem and the harvest index.

Effects of Temperature, Light and Seed Moisture Content on Germination of <i>Euterpe precatoria</i>Palm

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different temperatures, light regimes, and seed moisture contents on germination of the palm Euterpe precatoria, in the Arecaceae family. For the study of light and temperature, the experimental design was entirely randomized;treatments were arranged in a 6 × 2 factorial scheme [six temperature conditions (20°C, 25°C, 30°C, 35°C, 20°C - 30°C, and 25°C - 35°C) combined with two light regimes (light and darkness)] with four replications composed of 25 seeds each. For the seed moisture content study, the experimental design was entirely randomized with five seed moisture contents (27%, 20%, 13%, 12%, and 11%), to which they comprised 5 treatments, and four replications with 25 seeds each. Number of germinated seeds was recorded daily until germination was steady. Data were submitted to variance analysis;for the first experiment, means were compared by the Tukey test (p ≤ 0.05) and, for the second, the regression analysis was performed. The temperature at 20°C promoted highest germination percentage and germination rate for E. precatoria seeds, under either light or darkness;seeds were tolerant up to 11% moisture content.

Ferric carboxymaltose for anemia in Crohn’s disease patients at a tertiary center:A retrospective observational cohort study

Evaluation of Pulmonary Function in Adults with Grade Ⅲ obesity

Pulmonary function studies in obese individuals have alerted the pathophysiological changes due to weight gain. However, these changes are not fully explained yet. objective: To evaluate and analyze the pulmonary function of obese adults in the city of Manaus (AM, Brazil) and to correlate the parameters of spirometry with weight and BMI. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study, in which pulmonary function of 22 adults with grade III obesity was evaluated pre and post bronchodilator administration, performed at the Adriano jorge Hospital Foundation—FHAJ. Results: of the 22 patients evaluated, 6 were male and 16 were female;mean age was 37.1 ± 7.4 years, with a weight of 134.2 ± 28.6 kg and a BMI of 51.1 ± 9.4 kg/m2, corresponding to grade III obesity. Spirometry showed a reduction in values obtained from Forced Vital Capacity (FVC), Forced Expiratory Volume in the first second (FEV1) and Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) in relation to those predicted, with 23% of restrictive disorders. There were negative correlations between BMI and PEF, weight and FVC, weight and PEF. The P value for correlation of weight and FEV1 is not statistically significant. Conclusion: Restrictive and obstructive disorders are prevalent in the population with grade III obesity. Correlations between pulmonary function and BMI/weight were negative for this specific population.

Chemical Composition of the Essential oil and Nitrogen Metabolism of Menthol Mint under Different Phosphorus Levels

The purpose of this work was to evaluate the effects of different phosphorus levels (0.05, 0.5, 1 and 2 mM) under nitrogen metabolism and the essential oil profile of menthol mint (Mentha arvensis L.). The relationship between the leaf maturity and the essential oil profile was also explored. The experiment was conducted in a hydroponic system located in a grow chamber during 41 days and after the harvest, nitrate reductase activity, and the -N, amino-N, and soluble sugars levels of each plant part were evaluated. Also the essential oil from young leaves (6th to 8th node) and adult leaves (3rd to the 5th node) was analyzed. An uptake mechanism related to the increase in fresh weight of the roots was promoted with the use of low P levels (0.05 and 0.50 mmol·L-1). With 1 mmol·L-1 P plants showed in all parts an increased nitrate reductase activity and high levels of nitrate and amino-N in leaves. Plants submitted to the lowest P level (0.05 mmol·L-1) presented high levels of menthol. In leaves from 6th to 8th node (mature leaves) menthol level was approximately 87% of the essential oil however leaves from the 3rd to the 5th node (young leaves) showed high levels of pulegone, that can be toxic for humans. The results indicate that the essential oil quality in menthol mint is influenced by the leaf maturity and the P levels. Also it was showed that the oil extracted from mature leaves of plants under low P levels has the best commercial profile.

This study evaluated the effect of enriched artemia nauplii with commercial probiotic for angelfish larvae determining growth perfomance,survival and modulation of the intestinal ***,it experiment occurred in completely randomized design with five treatments(T1-0.0,T2-1.5,T3-3.0,T4-4.5 and T5-6.0g of commercial probiotic)and four replaces during 20 *** larvaculture,post larvae passed by biometric procedures to determine productive performance and then microbiological *** reduction of total heterotrophic bacteria while increased lactic acid bacteria in the intestinal tract from the post larvae for treatments T3,T4 and *** commercial probiotic also increased the survival and performance as final weight,weight gain and specific growth *** these reasons,the use of 3g of commercial probiotic promotes greater performance and intestinal modulation for angelfish larvae.

We report on the bromatological profile,the preliminary phytochemical composition,the antioxidant capacity,and the in vitro neuroprotective effects of Blackberry Jam *** were the major macronutrients(20 g/100 g)in both pulp and seeds(36.5 g/100g),that also possess a low lipid content(0.1 g/100 g and 0.7 g/100,and 86 Kcal/100 g,respectively).Eleven compounds including a diterpenoid dimmer,a lactone,coumarins,sphingosines,and flavonoids have been identified for the first time in the pulp and seeds of *** by mass *** electrochemical index of the hydroalcoholic extract of the pulp(BJFp respectively)and an appreciable energy value(89 Kcal/100 g)was around 6.8μA/V and two reversible cathode peaks were observed up to 0.5 V,thus shedding light to its antioxidant capacity,which was also evidenced by the DPPH•and ABTS+radical scavenging assays(IC50 of 3.30±0.23μg/mL and 18.17±1.21μg/mL,respectively).The BJFp protected against oxidative stress in vitro by significantly decreasing both the lipid peroxidation and contents of carbonyl proteins in a dose-dependent manner in murine brain cells treated with ***,the BJFp increased the superoxide dismutase(EC50 of 11.99±0.35μg/mL)and catalase(EC50 of 69.53±0.43μg/mL)*** BJFp markedly decreased both the in vitro acetylcholinesterase(IC50 of 227.9±0.34μg/mL)and butyrylcholinesterase(IC50 of 8.77±0.40μg/mL)***,besides being a great source of energy,this Amazon superfruit may be promising for enhancing the treatment outcomes of ailments related to oxidative stress,which require further in vivo investigation.

This study aims to investigate the toxicity and possible effects and mechanism of action of the essential oil obtained from the Piper tuberculatum Jacq.‘s fruit(EoPT)on the central nervous system(CNS)of *** the Hippocratic test,it was observed ambulation reduction,sedation,piloerection and mortality of 25%at the dose of 1000 mg/kg and 50%at the dose of 5000 mg/*** results found demonstrate that the EoPT is endowed with a possible depressant effect,and is characterized by a likely sedative(open field test),anxiolytic-like(elevated plus maze test),anticonvulsant(pentylenetetrazole-induced seizure test)and hypnotic action(pentobarbital-induced sleeping time).These effects may possibly occur due to the interaction between the monoterpenes,present in its essential oil,and the GABAergic pathway confirmed by reversion of the effects by ***,these results demonstrate the therapeutic potential and the validation of the ethnopharmacological use of this species in the treatment of disorders affecting the central nervous system.

[背景]吸入细颗粒物（颗粒物直径≤2.5μm,PM2.5）能诱发氧化应激和炎症反应,并有可能导致早产和其他不良的围产期结局。[目的]检测2004—2008年,世界卫生组织在全球22个国家中进行的孕产妇和围产期保健调查中,室外PM2.5是否与不良妊娠结局相关。[方法]以有新生儿出生的各医疗诊所周围50 km为半径的圆弧缓冲区计算室外PM2.5的长期均值（2001—2006年）。应用广义估计方程确定诊所的PM2.5水平与个体的早产和低出生体重之间的相关性,调整个人、诊所和国家水平的季节性因素及潜在的混杂因素。另外还对各国中的相关性进行了研究。[结果]在所有国家中,调整季节性因素后,PM2.5与早产无关联,但是与低出生体重相关[PM2.5的第四个四分位数段（〉20.2μg/m3）与第一个四分位数（〈6.3μg/m3）相比,比值比（oR）=1.22;95%CI：1.07-1.39]。中国是PM2.5测量值范围最大的国家,早产和低出生体重均仅与PM2.5的最高四分位数段相关,提示可能存在阈值效应（PM2.5≥36.5μg/m3与PM2.5〈12.5μg/m3相比,早产和低出生体重比值比分别为：oR=2.54;CI：1.42-4.55和oR=1.99;CI：1.06-3.72）。[结论]室外PM2.5浓度与低出生体重相关,但与早产不相关。在快速发展的国家中,例如中国,最高的空气污染水平可能与两个结局都相关。
