Influence of the time-step on the production of free nucleons and pions from heavy-ion collisions around 1 GeV/nucleon

By considering different values of the time-step for the potential updates in the ultra-relativistic quantum molecular dynamics(UrQMD) model, we examine its influence on observables, such as the yield and collective flow of nucleons and pions from heavyion collisions around 1 GeV/nucleon. It is found that these observables are affected to some extent by the choice of the time-step,and the impact of the time-step on the pion-related observables is more visible than that on the nucleon-related ones. However,its effect on the π-/π+yield ratio and elliptic flow difference between neutrons and protons, which have been taken as sensitive observables for probing the density-dependent nuclear symmetry energy at high densities, is fairly weak.

The atmospheric water holding capacity will increase with temperature according to Clausius-Clapeyron scaling and affects *** rates of change in future precipitation extremes are quantified with changes in surface air *** extremes in China are determined for the 21st century in six simulations using a regional climate model,RegCM4,and 17 global climate models that participated in ***,we assess the performance of the CMIP5 models and RCM runs in their simulation of extreme precipitation for the current period(RF:1982-2001).The CMIP5 models and RCM results can capture the spatial variations of precipitation extremes,as well as those based on observations:OBS and *** extremes over four subregions in China are predicted to increase in the mid-future(MF:2039-58)and far-future(FF:2079-98)relative to those for the RF period based on both the CMIP5 ensemble mean and RCM ensemble *** secular trends in the extremes of the CMIP5 models are predicted to increase from 2008 to 2058,and the RCM results show higher interannual variability relative to that of the CMIP5 ***,we quantify the increasing rates of change in precipitation extremes in the MF and FF periods in the subregions of China with the changes in surface air ***,based on the water vapor equation,changes in precipitation extremes in China for the MF and FF periods are found to correlate positively with changes in the atmospheric vertical wind multiplied by changes in surface specific humidity(significant at the p<0.1 level).

There is a strength and fracture toughness tradeoff in nanoceramic composite. The strength varies reciprocally with the grain size whereas the toughness contributed by compressive residual stress increases with the dimension of the second phase. In this work, a novel duplex microstructure with reinforced clusters composing of nanosized grains was proposed and validated using a model system of B_(4)C-TiB_(2) ceramics densified by carbide boronizing. As-obtained ceramics exhibit excellent combined mechanical properties at room temperature, including Vickers hardness, Young's modulus, flexural strength and fracture toughness(by surface crack in flexure method) of 32.1 ± 2.7 GPa, 506.9 ± 2.0 GPa,1175 ± 71 MPa and 5.1 ± 0.4 MPa m^(0.5), respectively. Both strength and toughness are at least ~30 % higher than the counterparts with similar composition but homogenously distributed TiB_(2) grains. Graphite onion was confirmed to be an intermediate product during reactive sintering, it facilitated the grain pullout during fracture and retained the nanometric TiB_(2) grain in the cluster, both of which also contribute the toughening and strengthening mechanisms in the B_(4)C-TiB_(2) ceramics.

BACKGROUND Despite being a benign disease, hepatolithiasis has a poor prognosis because of its intractable nature and frequent recurrence. Nonsurgical treatment is associated with high incidences of residual and recurrent stones. Consequently, surgery via hepatic lobectomy or segmental hepatectomy has become the main treatment modality. Clinical management and resolution of complicated hepatolithiasis with bilateral or diffuse intrahepatic stones remain very difficult and challenging. Repeated cholangitis and calculous obstruction may result in secondary biliary cirrhosis, a limiting factor in the treatment of *** SUMMARY A 53-year-old woman with a 5-year history of intermittent abdominal pain and fever was admitted to the hepatopancreatobiliary surgery department following worsening symptoms over a 3-d period. Blood tests revealed elevated transaminases, alkaline phosphatase, γ-glutamyl transpeptidase, and total bilirubin, as well as anemia. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography showed dilatation of the intrahepatic, left and right hepatic, common hepatic, and common bile ducts, and multiple short T2 signals in the intrahepatic and common bile ducts. Abdominal computed tomography showed splenomegaly and splenic varices. The diagnosis was bilateral hepatolithiasis and choledocholithiasis with cholangitis. Surgical treatment included hepatectomy of segments Ⅱ and Ⅲ, cholangioplasty, left hepaticolithotomy, second biliary duct exploration, choledocholithotomy, T-tube drainage, and accretion lysis. Surgical and pathological findings confirmed secondary biliary cirrhosis. Liver-protective therapy and anti-infectives were administered. The patient developed liver and respiratory failure, severe abdominal infection, and septicemia. Eventually, her family elected to discontinue *** Liver transplantation, rather than hepatectomy, might be a treatment option for complicated bilateral hepatolithiasis with secondary liver cirrhosis.

To solve the problems of noise,detail loss and poor contrast in the successive mean quantization transform（SMQT）,a new SMQT algorithm based on Otsu algorithm is *** this algorithm,we integrate the optimal threshold selected by the Otsu algorithm into the SMQT algorithm,then obtain the successive mean quantization of the binary *** this algorithm,an enhanced image is output with a higher *** both subjective visual effect and objective quality evaluation,the experimental results show that the improved algorithm reduces noise,improves contrast and makes the image details more clear.

There are several challenges to inner ear drug delivery and imaging due to the existence of tight biological barriers to the target structure and the dense bone surrounding it. Advances in imaging and nanomedicine may provide knowledge for overcoming the existing limitations to both the diagnosis and treatment of inner ear diseases. Novel techniques have improved the efficacy of drug delivery and targeting to the inner ear, as well as the quality and accuracy of imaging this structure. In this review, we will describe the pathways and biological barriers of the inner ear regarding drug delivery, the beneficial applications and limitations of the imaging techniques available for inner ear research, the behavior of engineered nanomaterials in inner ear applications, and future perspectives for nanomedicine-based inner ear imaging.

The boundary element method is used for he modal analysis of freevibration of 2-D composite structures in this paper. Since theparticular solution method is used to treat the terms of body forces(inertial forces) in the equation of motion, only static fundamentalsolutions are needed in solving the problem. For an isotropiccantilever beam, the numerical results obtained by using the BEMpresented in this paper are in good agreement, with those of usingFEM or other BEM, but this BEM can also be used to analyze problemsfor anisotropic materials.
