AIM:To develop a deep learning-based model for automatic retinal vascular segmentation,analyzing and comparing parameters under diverse glucose metabolic status(normal,prediabetes,diabetes)and to assess the potential of artificial intelligence(AI)in image segmentation and retinal vascular parameters for predicting prediabetes and ***:Retinal fundus photos from 200 normal individuals,200 prediabetic patients,and 200 diabetic patients(600 eyes in total)were *** U-Net network served as the foundational architecture for retinal arteryvein *** automatic segmentation and evaluation system for retinal vascular parameters was trained,encompassing 26 ***:Significant differences were found in retinal vascular parameters across normal,prediabetes,and diabetes groups,including artery diameter(P=0.008),fractal dimension(P=0.000),vein curvature(P=0.003),C-zone artery branching vessel count(P=0.049),C-zone vein branching vessel count(P=0.041),artery branching angle(P=0.005),vein branching angle(P=0.001),artery angle asymmetry degree(P=0.003),vessel length density(P=0.000),and vessel area density(P=0.000),totaling 10 ***:The deep learning-based model facilitates retinal vascular parameter identification and quantification,revealing significant *** parameters exhibit potential as biomarkers for prediabetes and diabetes.

BACKGROUND Esophageal cancer is one of the most common malignant *** three-dimensional quality structure model is a quality assessment theory that includes three dimensions:Structure,process,and *** To investigate the effects of nursing interventions with three-dimensional quality assessment on the efficacy and disease management ability of patients undergoing esophageal cancer *** In this prospective study,the control group received routine nursing,and the intervention group additionally received a three-dimensional quality assessment intervention based on the above routine ***-efficacy and patient disease management abilities were evaluated using the General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES)and Exercise of Self-Care Agency scale,*** SPSS Statistics for Windows,version 17.0,was used for the data *** This study recruited 112 patients who were assigned to the control and experi-mental groups(n=56 per group).Before the intervention,there was no significant difference in GSES scores between the two groups(P>0.05).After the inter-vention,the GSES scores of both groups increased,with the experimental group showing higher values(P<0.05).At the time of discharge and three months after discharge,the scores for positive attitudes,self-stress reduction,and total score of health promotion in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The implementation of a three-dimensional quality structure model for postoperative patients with esophageal cancer can effectively improve their self-management ability and self-efficacy of postoperative patients.

An electromagnetic view of relay time in propagation of neural signals

We review the experimental and computational data about the propagation of neural signals in myelinated axons in mice,cats,rabbits,and frogs published in the past five *** contrast to the natural assumption that neural signals occur one by one in time and in space,we figure out that neural signals are highly overlapped in time between neighboring *** phenomenon was occasionally illustrated in some early reports,but seemed to have been overlooked for some *** shift in time between two successive neural signals from neighboring nodes,defined as relay timeτ,was calculated to be only 16.3μs-87.0μs,i.e.,0.8%-4.4%of the average duration of an action potential peak(roughly 2 ms).We present a clearer picture of the exact physical process about how the information transmits along a myelinated axon,rather than a whole action potential peak,what is transmitted is only a rising electric field caused by transmembrane ion *** in the paper,τrepresents the waiting time until the neighboring node senses an attenuated electric field reaching the threshold to trigger the open *** mechanisms addressed in this work have the potential to be universal,and may hold clues to revealing the exact triggering processes of voltage-gated ion channels and various brain functions.

Red-blood-cell like nitrogen-doped carbons with highly catalytic activity towards oxygen reduction reaction

A highly active nitrogen-doped catalyst with a unique red-blood-cell（RBC） like structure is reported for oxygen reduction reaction（ORR）.The catalyst Fe,N-C@carbon-900 was prepared by pyrolysis of the polyaniline（PANl） and polystyrene（PS） composites with adsorption of ferric ion on the shell of sphere structure at 900℃.Fe,N-C@carbon-900 with a unique RBC-like structure provides plenty of catalytic sites combining the electrical conductivity of the carbon sphere with the catalytic activity of the nitrogen-doped *** four-electron reduction pathway is selected for the catalyst Fe,N-C@*** catalyst exhibit the ORR E_（onset） at 0.87 V（potentials is versus to reversible hydrogen electrode（RHE））,E_（1/2） at 0.78 V and high diffusion-limiting current density（5.20mA/cm^2）.Furthermore,this work indicates that both N and Fe accounted for high activity of the catalyst Fe,N-C@carbon-900 toward the oxygen reduction *** is concluded that Fe and N exhibit synergistically promotion in the ORR activity for the catalyst Fe,N-C@*** also provide a rational design of electrocatalysts with high ORR activity to further clarify the essential ORR sites of heteroatom doped carbon materials for fuel cells and metal-air battery applications.

Effects of different levels of end-expiratory positive pressure on lung recruitment and protection in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome

Background It is still controversial as to the implementation of higher positive end-expiratory pressure （PEEP） in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome （ARDS）. This study was conducted to compare the lower and higher PEEP in patients with ARDS ventilated with low tidal volume, to investigate the relationship between the recruited lung volume by higher PEEP and relevant independent variables and to provide a bedside estimate of the percentage of potentially recruitable lung by higher PEEP. Methods Twenty-four patients with ARDS were studied. A lung recruiting maneuver was performed, then each patient was ventilated with PEEP of 8 cmH20 for 4 hours and subsequently with PEEP of 16 cmH20 for 4 hours. At the end of each PEEP level period, gas exchange, hemodynamic data, lung mechanics, stress index ＂b＂ of the dynamic pressure-time curve, intrinsic PEEP and recruited volume by PEEP were measured. Results Fourteen patients were recruiters whose alveolar recruited volumes induced by PEEP 16 cmH20 were （425_＋65） ml and 10 patients were non-recruiters. Compared with the PEEP 8 cmH20 period, after the application of the PEEP 16 cmH20, the PaO2/FiO2 ratio and static lung compliance both remained unchanged in non-recruiters, whereas they increased significantly in recruiters. Changes in PaO2/FiO2 and static lung compliance after PEEP increase were independently associated with the alveolar recruitment. Analyzing the relationship between recruiting maneuver （RM）-induced change in end-expiratory lung volume and the alveolar recruitment induced by PEEP, we found a notable correlation. Conclusions The results of this study indicated that the potential for alveolar recruitment might vary among the ARDS population and the higher PEEP levels should be limited to recruiters. Improving in PaO2/FiO2, static lung compliance after PEEP increase and the shape of the pressure-time curve could be helpful for PEEP application.

Ternary direct dual Z-scheme Bi_(3)T_(a)O_(7)/Bi_(2)S_(3)/SnS_(2) photocatalyst was successfully prepared by hydrothermal *** composite photocatalysts exhibited high photocatalytic performance on both Cr(Ⅵ)reduction and tetracycline(TC)degradation under the irradiation of visible *** results manifested that the photogenerated charge transfer efficiency was improved after forming the dual Z-scheme *** a result,the composite catalysts exhibited higher photocat-alytic degradation efficiency than the corresponding single *** apparent rate constant(k)value of the best sample BBS-3 for TC degradation was 0.0403 min^(-1),which was 40 times,8 times,and 18 times higher than that of single *** the k value of BBS-3 for the Cr(Ⅵ)reduction was 0.0249 min^(-1),it was about 23 times,7 times,and 18 times that of single *** experiments indicated that the BBS-3 had good photocat-alytic ***,the possible mechanism on Cr(Ⅵ)reduction and TC degradation was proposed based on the experimental results.

The tyrosine metabolism pathway serves as a starting point for the production of a variety of structurally diverse natural compounds in plants,such as tocopherols,plastoquinone,ubiquinone,betalains,salidroside,benzylisoquinoline alkaloids,and so *** these,tyrosine-derived metabolites,tocopherols,plastoquinone,and ubiquinone are essential to plant *** addition,this pathway provides us essential micronutrients(e.g.,vitamin E and ubiquinone)and medicine(e.g.,morphine,salidroside,and salvianolic acid B).However,our knowledge of the plant tyrosine metabolism pathway remains rudimentary,and genes encoding the pathway enzymes have not been fully *** this review,we summarize and discuss recent advances in the tyrosine metabolism pathway,key enzymes,and important tyrosine-derived metabolites in plants.

Challenges and prospects for room temperature solid-state sodiumsulfur batteries

Room temperature sodium-sulfur(Na-S)batteries,known for their high energy density and low cost,are one of the most promising next-generation energy storage ***,the polysulfide shuttling and uncontrollable Na dendrite growth as well as safety issues caused by the use of organic liquid electrolytes in Na-S cells,have severely hindered their ***-state electrolytes instead of liquid electrolytes are considered to be the most direct and effective solution to solve the above ***,its practical application is still greatly challenged due to the poor interfacial compatibility between the all-solid-state electrolytes and the anode/cathode,ionic conductivity,and the shuttle effect caused by the presence of liquid phase in the quasi-solid-state *** paper presents a comprehensive review of solid-state Na-S batteries from the perspective of regulating interfacial compatibility and improving ionic conductivity as well as suppressing polysulfide *** to different components,solid-state electrolytes were divided into five categories:solid inorganic electrolytes,solid polymer electrolytes,polymer/inorganic solid hybrid electrolytes,gel polymer electrolytes,and liquid–solid inorganic hybrid ***,the prospect of developing high performance solid-state electrolytes to improve the cycling stability of room temperature Na-S cells is envisaged.
