Due to the coarse grain microstructure and low hardness of ductile cast iron(DCI),this material is unable to meet the performance requirements of bearing structural materials.To obtain ultra-fine-grained and ultra-hardened DCI,the influence of a cyclic quenching treatment on the evolution process and properties of DCI after three cycles of quenching at 860℃ for 30 min was investigated through morphology and grain-size characterization,X-ray diffraction analysis,and mechanical-property determination of DCI.It was found that the microstructure and performance depended strongly on the process of the cyclic quenching.With an increasing number of cycles,the grain size of austenite was significantly refined from 41.2 to 12.3μm,and the length and width of lath/plate martensite,as well as the lath and twins,are decreased.In the meantime,the morphology of retained austenite changed from blocky to granular,together with the stability increased.The experimental sample obtained a performance with a hardness higher than 60 HRC after cyclic quenching treatment due to the refined grain size and increased dislocation density.

BACKGROUND:Emergency medical service system(EMSS)is essential in providing acute care services for health conditions.However,trends of emergency and acute care in China haven’t been studied systematically.METHODS:Relevant literature was carefully reviewed,including original and review articles,letters,government reports,yearbooks,both in Chinese and in English.Data on the number of emergency visits,physicians and beds in emergency departments(EDs),and the workforce of prehospital emergency care were summarized and analyzed from China Health and Family Planning Statistical Yearbooks(2006–2018).RESULTS:Over the past decade,the number of ED visits tripled from 51.9 million to 166.5 million;and utilization of pre-hospital emergency care increased from 3.2 million to 6.8 million.In response to rapid increases in demand,the number of licensed emergency physicians raised from 20,058 to 59,409;the beds’number increased from 10,783 to 42,367.For pre-hospital emergency care,the volume of health workforce increased from 3,687 to 8,671,with a 109%increase in the number of physicians from 1,774 to 3,712.However,overcrowding,the long length of stay in EDs,poor work environment,and work exhaustion were still the critical challenges faced by China’s EMSS.CONCLUSIONS:The number of emergency visits has grown with continual capability enhancement during the past decade.However,overcrowding,the long length of stay in EDs,poor work environment,and work exhaustion still need to be solved by China’s EMSS.These fi ndings and comparison with the USA could offer experiences and lessons to EMSS development worldwide,especially for developing countries.

Background Juvenile idiopathic arthritis(JIA)is a chronic inflammatory disease that includes seven heterogeneous subgroups with different prognoses.In particular,polyarticular JIA(pJIA)has a longer period of active disease and a poorer prognosis.Tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-alpha inhibitors are effective in patients with pJIA,but the therapeutic regimen remains controversial.Here,we performed a single-center study to determine the potential correlation between TNF-alpha inhibitor(infliximab)therapy and outcomes in these patients.Methods Clinical data of 40 pJIA patients were collected at our center from January 1,2010 to January 1,2018,and patients were grouped according to the timing of infliximab therapy.The erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR),the number of joints with active disease,and the 27-point juvenile arthritis disease activity score(JADAS-27)were analyzed.Results The ESR,the active joint count,and the JADAS-27 decreased significantly in all groups after 3 months(P=0.041/0.415/0.008,0.022/0.030/<0.001,and 0.05/0.012/<0.001,respectively)and 6 months(P=0.036/0.045/0.041,0.076/0.037/<0.001,and 0.096/0.006/<0.001,respectively)of infliximab treatment,although the rates of change of these parameters were similar.However,after 12 months,only patients treated with infliximab within 3 months of disease onset had a stable ESR,active joint count,and JADAS-27,while these parameters increased sharply when infliximab was administered 3 months and especially 1 year after disease onset.Conclusions TNF-alpha is a pleiotropic pro-inflammatory cytokine of crucial importance in the pathogenesis of JIA.Infliximab can improve the outcomes of patients with pJIA significantly,and should be introduced early during the clinical course.

Objectives:Advertising messages can affect the public as a risk or protective factor for socially disadvantaged groups,and they may reflect how characters reflect perceptions are perceived in a society.This study aimed to investigate how older people are portrayed in televised food commercials from the approach of a healthy aging perspective in contemporary Chinese society.Methods:All televised advertising in the Ad Topic archive were screened against inclusion and exclusion criteria,and a total of 164 commercials from the years of 2016-2019 that portrayed Chinese older people were sampled.The association between the main older characters with the product categories,healthy vs.unhealthy foods,use of health claims,sex,type of spokesperson,companions,and tones and manners were included in the analysis.Results:Older people more frequently appeared in unhealthy food products than in healthy food products.Health claims involving older adults were portrayed adequately,whereas nursing professions as companions of older adults were overlooked.Positive advertising that delivered happy,caring,or warm tones was overwhelmingly represented.Thus,the advertising messages circulated in China represent a binary stereotype model of images of older adults'characteristics that reflect ageist and the so-called agelessism,referring to the new application of the look from the approach of social psychology and marketing field.Conclusions:This study examined aging discrimination reflected in advertisements.Studies exploring the impact of a crisis remain limited.Research is needed to improve the accuracy of advertised healthy older adults and normal aging.

The loading strategy of cocatalysts affects its activity exerting and atom utilization.Here,a novel strategy for loading precious metal(Pt)cocatalysts by means of ultrathin N-doped carbon layer is reported.The strategy is based on a pyrolysis process of predesigned N-containing polymers and Pt complexes on hard-template surface,during which Pt can be reduced by carbon from pyrolysis at high temperatures.Finally,the hollow TiO_(2)composite with stable and dispersed Pt on its inner surface was prepared.It shows an ultrahigh photocatalytic H_(2)production activity as high as 25.7 mmol h^(-1)g^(-1)with methanol as sacrificial regent,and displays an apparent quantum yield as 13.2%.The improved photocatalytic activity and stability can be attributed to the highly dispersed and ultrafine Pt nanoparticles,enhanced interaction between Pt-species and carbon support,fast photo-excited electron transport from the high graphitization degree of NC layers,ample oxygen vacancies/defects,as well as the manipulated local charge distribution of Pt/NC-layer configuration.Additionally,the universality of the proposed strategy was demonstrated by replacing metal sources(such as,Ru and Pd).This work presented a promising strategy for the design and development of novel photocatalysts,which shows a broad application prospect.

A Predictive Energy Management Strategies for Mining Dump Trucks

The plug-in hybrid vehicles(PHEV)technology can effectively address the issues of poor dynamics and higher energy consumption commonly found in traditional mining dump trucks.Meanwhile,plug-in hybrid electric trucks can achieve excellent fuel economy through efficient energy management strategies(EMS).Therefore,a series hybrid system is constructed based on a 100-ton mining dump truck in this paper.And inspired by the dynamic programming(DP)algorithm,a predictive equivalent consumption minimization strategy(P-ECMS)based on the DP optimization result is proposed.Based on the optimal control manifold and the SOC reference trajectory obtained by the DP algorithm,the P-ECMS strategy performs real-time stage parameter optimization to obtain the optimal equivalent factor(EF).Finally,applying the equivalent consumption minimization strategy(ECMS)realizes real-time control.The simulation results show that the equivalent fuel consumption of the P-ECMS strategy under the experimentally collected mining cycle conditions is 150.8 L/100 km,which is 10.9%less than that of the common CDCS strategy(169.3 L/100 km),and achieves 99.47%of the fuel saving effect of the DP strategy(150 L/100 km).

This study investigated cold plasmas for multiple biological applications. Our previous work has found dielectric barrier discharge plasma improves chicken sperm quality. The number of Sertoli cells(SCs) decides spermatogenesis. However, whether cold plasma can regulate SC proliferation remains unclear. This study explored the effects of cold plasma on immature chicken SC proliferation and the regulation mechanism. Results showed that cold plasma exposure at 2.4 W for 30 s twice with an interval of 6 h produced(P<0.05) the maximum SC viability, cell growth, and cell cycle progression. SC proliferation-promoting effect of cold plasma treatment was regulated by increasing(P<0.05) the adenosine triphosphate production and the respiratory enzyme activity in the mitochondria. This process was potentially mediated by the adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK)–mammalian target of rapamycin(m TOR) signaling pathway, which was regulated by the micro RNA(mi RNA) targeting regulation directly and by the intracellular reactive oxygen species homeostasis indirectly. The cold plasma treatment increased(P<0.01) the mi R-7450-5 p expression and led to a decreased(P<0.01) AMPKα1 level. On the other hand, mi R-100-5 p expression was reduced(P<0.05) and led to an increased(P<0.05) m TOR level in SCs. A single-stranded synthetic mi R-7450-5 p antagomir and a double-stranded synthetic mi R-100-5 p agomir reduced(P<0.05) the SC proliferation. However, this could be ameliorated(P<0.05) by the cold plasma treatment. Our findings suggest that appropriate cold plasma treatment provides a safe strategy to improve SC proliferation, which is beneficial to elevating male chicken reproductive capacity.

Small peptides represent a subset of dark matter in plant proteomes.Through differential expression patterns and modes of action,small peptides act as important regulators of plant growth and development.Over the past 20 years,many small peptides have been identified due to technical advances in genome sequencing,bioinformatics,and chemical biology.In this article,we summarize the classifi-cation of plant small peptides and experimental strategies used to identify them as well as their potential use in agronomic breeding.We review the biological functions and molecular mechanisms of small peptides in plants,discuss current problems in small peptide research and highlight future research directions in this field.Our review provides crucial insight into small peptides in plants and will contribute to a better understanding of their potential roles in biotechnology and agriculture.
