Vertically aligned montmorillonite aerogel-encapsulated polyethylene glycol with directional heat transfer paths for efficient solar thermal energy harvesting and storage

The conversion and storage of photothermal energy using phase change materials(PCMs)represent an optimal approach for harnessing clean and sustainable solar energy.Herein,we encapsulated polyethylene glycol(PEG)in montmorillonite aerogels(3D-Mt)through vacuum impregnation to prepare 3D-Mt/PEG composite PCMs.When used as a support matrix,3D-Mt can effectively prevent PEG leakage and act as a flame-retardant barrier to reduce the flammability of PEG.Simultaneously,3D-Mt/PEG demonstrates outstanding shape retention,increased thermal energy storage density,and commendable thermal and chemical stability.The phase transition enthalpy of 3D-Mt/PEG can reach 167.53 J/g and remains stable even after 50 heating-cooling cycles.Furthermore,the vertical sheet-like structure of 3D-Mt establishes directional heat transport channels,facilitating efficient phonon transfer.This configuration results in highly anisotropic thermal conductivities that ensure swift thermal responses and efficient heat conduction.This study addresses the shortcomings of PCMs,including the issues of leakage and inadequate flame retardancy.It achieves the development and design of 3D-Mt/PEG with ultrahigh strength,superior flame retardancy,and directional heat transfer.Therefore,this work offers a design strategy for the preparation of high-performance composite PCMs.The 3D-Mt/PEG with vertically aligned and well-ordered array structure developed in this research shows great potential for thermal management and photothermal conversion applications.

Classification of anatomical morphology of cystic duct and its association with gallstone

BACKGROUND Gallstones are common lesions that often require surgical intervention.Laparo-scopic cholecystectomy is the treatment of choice for symptomatic gallstones.Preoperatively,the anatomical morphology of the cystic duct(CD),needs to be accurately recognized,especially when anatomical variations occur in the CD,which is otherwise prone to bile duct injury.However,at present,there is no optimal classification system for CD morphology applicable in clinical practice,and the relationship between anatomical variations in CDs and gallstones remains to be explored.AIM To create a more comprehensive clinically applicable classification of the morphology of CD and to explore the correlations between anatomic variants of CD and gallstones.METHODS A total of 300 patients were retrospectively enrolled from October 2021 to January 2022.The patients were divided into two groups:The gallstone group and the nongallstone group.Relevant clinical data and anatomical data of the CD based on magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography(MRCP)were collected and analyzed to propose a morphological classification system of the CD and to explore its relationship with gallstones.Multivariate analysis was performed using logistic regression analyses to identify the independent risk factors using variables that were significant in the univariate analysis.RESULTS Of the 300 patients enrolled in this study,200(66.7%)had gallstones.The mean age was 48.10±13.30 years,142(47.3%)were male,and 158(52.7%)were female.A total of 55.7%of the patients had a body mass index(BMI)≥24 kg/m2.Based on the MRCP,the CD anatomical typology is divided into four types:Type I:Linear,type II:n-shaped,type III:S-shaped,and type IV:W-shaped.Univariate analysis revealed differences between the gallstone and nongallstone groups in relation to sex,BMI,cholesterol,triglycerides,morphology of CD,site of CD insertion into the extrahepatic bile duct,length of CD,and angle between the common hepatic duct and CD.According to the multivariate analysis,female,BMI(≥24 kg/m2)

Design Strategies for Aqueous Zinc Metal Batteries with High Zinc Utilization: From Metal Anodes to Anode-Free Structures

Aqueous zinc metal batteries(AZMBs)are promising candidates for next-generation energy storage due to the excellent safety, environmental friendliness, natural abundance, high theoretical specific capacity, and low redox potential of zinc(Zn) metal. However,several issues such as dendrite formation, hydrogen evolution, corrosion, and passivation of Zn metal anodes cause irreversible loss of the active materials. To solve these issues, researchers often use large amounts of excess Zn to ensure a continuous supply of active materials for Zn anodes. This leads to the ultralow utilization of Zn anodes and squanders the high energy density of AZMBs. Herein, the design strategies for AZMBs with high Zn utilization are discussed in depth, from utilizing thinner Zn foils to constructing anode-free structures with theoretical Zn utilization of 100%, which provides comprehensive guidelines for further research. Representative methods for calculating the depth of discharge of Zn anodes with different structures are first summarized. The reasonable modification strategies of Zn foil anodes, current collectors with pre-deposited Zn, and anode-free aqueous Zn metal batteries(AF-AZMBs) to improve Zn utilization are then detailed. In particular, the working mechanism of AF-AZMBs is systematically introduced. Finally, the challenges and perspectives for constructing high-utilization Zn anodes are presented.

Emerging clinical relevance of microbiome in cancer:promising biomarkers and therapeutic targets

The profound influence of microbiota in cancer initiation and progression has been under the spotlight for years,leading to numerous researches on cancer microbiome entering clinical evaluation.As promising biomarkers and therapeutic targets,the critical involvement of microbiota in cancer clinical practice has been increasingly appreciated.Here,recent progress in this field is reviewed.We describe the potential of tumor-associated microbiota as effective diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers,respectively.In addition,we highlight the relationship between microbiota and the therapeutic efficacy,toxicity,or side effects of commonly utilized treatments for cancer,including chemotherapy,radiotherapy,and immunotherapy.Given that microbial factors influence the cancer treatment outcome,we further summarize some dominating microbial interventions and discuss the hidden risks of these strategies.This review aims to provide an overview of the applications and advancements of microbes in cancer clinical relevance.

Effect of Fe Addition on Dehydrogenation Performance of Methylcyclohexance over Pt/Al_(2)O_(3)

Catalysts with varying Fe contents were prepared using a sequential impregnation method to investigate the effects of Fe addition on the physicochemical properties of Pt/Al_(2)O_(3) and their performance in methylcyclohexane(MCH)dehydrogenation.The results demonstrated that the addition of Fe to Pt/Al_(2)O_(3) enhanced the electron density of Pt and improved catalytic activity,while exhibiting negligible influence on the catalytic selectivity for toluene.When the Fe content was 0.057%,the catalyst exhibited the highest MCH consumption rate,which was approximately two times higher than that of the catalyst without Fe.Additionally,the incorporation of Fe inhibited the formation of coke and reduced the quantity of coke deposits on the catalyst,thereby improving its catalytic durability.Overall,Fe shows promise as a prospective secondary element for Pt/Al_(2)O_(3) to enhance the MCH dehydrogenation performance.

Effects of combustion temperature on the optical properties of brown carbon from biomass burning

Biomass burning has been known as one of main sources of Brown Carbon(BrC)in atmosphere.In this study,by controlling the combustion temperature at 250℃,350℃,and 450℃,the methanol soluble organic carbon(MSOC)and methanol insoluble carbon(MISC)from pine wood burning was collected by impinger.UV–Vis,excitation emission matrix(EEM),TEM and FTIR spectra were applied to investigate the properties of BrC collected.For MSOC at 250℃ and 350℃,all the spectral profiles of UV–Vis absorption and excitation emission matrix are almost the same,while the EEM of MSOC at 450℃ are different from that of the other two.For MISC fuorescence was observed only in the case of 450℃.In the FTIR spectra,with the temperature increasing the peaks associated to the oxygen-contained functions was weakened,indicating the formation of the fuorophores with larger conjugated system,especially aromatic hydrocarbons.Our results show that biomass combustion at low temperature produces more oxygen-riched BrC,which possesses relatively lower light absorption,while at high temperature produces more aromatics hydrocarbons with relatively strong light absorption.The results of this work are helpful to trace the source of brown carbon and optimize biomass energy utilization.

Prognostic factors associated with gastrointestinal dysfunction after gastrointestinal tumor surgery:A meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Explore the risk factors of gastrointestinal dysfunction after gastrointestinal tumor surgery and to provide evidence for the prevention and intervention of gastrointestinal dysfunction in patients with gastrointestinal tumor surgery.AIM To investigate the potential risk factors for gastrointestinal dysfunction following gastrointestinal tumor surgery and to present information supporting the prevention and management of gastrointestinal dysfunction in surgery patients.METHODS Systematically searched the relevant literature from PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,Embase,CNKI,China Biomedical Database,Wanfang Database,and Weipu Chinese Journal Database self-established until October 1,2022.Review Manager 5.3 software was used for meta-analysis after two researchers independently screened literature,extracted data,and evaluated the risk of bias in the included studies.RESULTS A total of 23 pieces of literature were included,the quality of which was medium or above,and the total sample size was 43878.The results of meta-analysis showed that the patients were male(OR=1.58,95%CI:1.25-2.01,P=0.002)and≥60 years old(OR=2.60,95%CI:1.76-2.87,P<0.001),physical index≥25.3 kg/m2(OR=1.6,95%CI:1.00-1.12,P=0.040),smoking history(OR=1.89,95%CI:1.31-2.73,P<0.001),chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(OR=1.49,95%CI:1.22-1.83,P<0.001),enterostomy(OR=1.47,95%CI:1.26-1.70,P<0.001),history of abdominal surgery(OR=2.90,95%CI:1.67-5.03,P<0.001),surgical site(OR=1.2,95%CI:1.40-2.62,P<0.001),operation method(OR=1.68,95%CI:1.08-2.62,P=0.020),operation duration(OR=2.65,95%CI:1.92-3.67,P<0.001),abdominal adhesion grade(OR=2.52,95%CI:1.90-3.56,P<0.001),postoperative opioid history(OR=5.35,95%CI:3.29-8.71,P<0.001),tumor TNM staging(OR=2.58,95%CI:1.84-3.62,P<0.001),postoperative blood transfusion(OR=2.92,95%CI:0.88-9.73,P=0.010)is a risk factor for postoperative gastrointestinal dysfunction in patients with gastrointestinal tumors.CONCLUSION There are many factors affecting gastrointestinal dysfunction in gastrointestinal patients

Lead-free perovskites-based photonic synaptic devices with zero electric energy consumption

The von Neumann bottleneck is a critical limitation in synaptic devices. Therefore, artificial synaptic devices resembling biological neuromorphic synapses have been developed to overcome the von Neumann bottleneck. However, synaptic devices require voltages, which results in considerable energy consumption. Here, photonic synaptic devices with the vertical structure of indium tin oxide（ITO）/SnO2/Al2O3/CsBi3I10/Au are fabricated, which can work in the self-powered mode owing to the photovoltaic effect endowed by a vertical multilayer structure. Several fundamental synaptic functions, such as excitatory postsynaptic current, paired-pulse facilitation, short-term plasticity（STP）, long-term plasticity（LTP）, pulse-frequency-dependent plasticity, transition of STP to LTP, and the learning experience are emulated. Moreover, Morse-coded external light information is decoded by self-powered photonic synaptic devices. The results indicate that self-powered photonic synaptic devices based on lead-free perovskites exhibit great potential for efficient neuromorphic computing and optical wireless communication.

Coalbursts in China: Theory, practice and management

Coalburst is one of the most serious disasters that threaten the safe production of coal mines, and this disaster is particularly serious in China. This paper presents an overview of coalbursts in China since 1980s. From the "stress and energy" and "regional and local" perspectives, the achievements in the theory, practice and management of coalbursts in China are systematically summarized. A theoretical system of coalbursts has been formed to reveal the deformational behavior of coalbursts and explain the mechanism of coalbursts. The occurrence conditions of coalbursts are put forward and the critical stress is obtained. The stress index method for risk evaluation of coalbursts before mining is proposed, and the deformation localization prediction method of coalbursts is put forward. The relationship between energy release and absorption in the process of coalbursts is found, and the prevention and control methods of coalbursts, including the regional method, the local method and support, are presented. The safety evaluation index of coalburst prevention and control is put forward. The integrated prevention and control method for coal and gas outbursts is proposed. The prevention and control technology and equipment of coalbursts have also been developed. Amongst them, the distribution law of the critical stress in China coalburst mines is discovered. The technology and equipment for monitoring, prevention and control of coalbursts, as well as for integrated prevention and control of combined coalbursts and other disasters, have been developed. The energy-absorbing and coalburst-preventing support technology for roadways is invented, and key engineering parameters of coalburst prevention and control are pointed out. In China, coalburst prevention and control laws and standards have been developed. Technical standards for coalbursts are formulated, statute and regulations for coal mines are established, and regulatory documents are promoted.

Supported metal catalysts are widely used in the modern chemical industry.The electronic interaction between supports and active components is of great significance for heterogeneous catalysis.Graphdiyne(GDY),a new type of carbon allotrope with sp-hybridized carbon atoms,πconjugate structure,and electron transmission capability,is a promising candidate as catalyst support.Recent years have witnessed the rapid progress of GDY-supported metal catalysts for different catalysis reactions.Considering that most processes in the current chemical industry are thermocatalytic reactions,we herein give an overview about the advances and particular characteristics of GDY-supported catalysts in these reactions.The geometric structure and electronic properties of GDY are first introduced.Then,the synthesis methods for GDY-supported metal catalysts and their applications in thermocatalytic reactions are discussed,in which the effect of electronic interaction on catalytic performance is highlighted.Finally,the current challenges and future directions of GDY-supported metal catalysts for thermocatalysis are proposed.It is expected that this review will enrich our understanding of the advances of GDY as a superior support for metal catalysts in thermocatalytic reactions.
