Postnatal development of rat retina:a continuous observation and comparison between the organotypic retinal explant model and in vivo development

The organotypic retinal explant culture has been established for more than a decade and offers a range of unique advantages compared with in vivo experiments and cell ***,the lack of systematic and continuous comparison between in vivo retinal development and the organotypic retinal explant culture makes this model controversial in postnatal retinal development ***,we aimed to verify the feasibility of using this model for postnatal retinal development studies by comparing it with the in vivo *** this study,we showed that postnatal retinal explants undergo normal development,and exhibit a consistent structure and timeline with retinas in ***,we used SOX2 and PAX6 immunostaining to identify retinal progenitor *** then examined cell proliferation and migration by immunostaining with Ki-67 and doublecortin,***-67-and doublecortin-positive cells decreased in both in vivo and explants during postnatal retinogenesis,and exhibited a high degree of similarity in abundance and distribution between ***,we used Ceh-10 homeodomain-containing homolog,glutamate-ammonia ligase(glutamine synthetase),neuronal nuclei,and ionized calcium-binding adapter molecule 1 immunostaining to examine the emergence of bipolar cells,Müller glia,mature neurons,and microglia,*** timing and spatial patterns of the emergence of these cell types were remarkably consistent between in vivo and explant *** study showed that the organotypic retinal explant culture model had a high degree of consistency with the progression of in vivo early postnatal retina *** findings confirm the accuracy and credibility of this model and support its use for long-term,systematic,and continuous observation.

Expression of a High Mobility Group Protein Isolated from Cucumis sativus Affects the Germination of Arabidopsis thaliana under Abiotic Stress Conditions

Although high mobility group B （HMGB） proteins have been identified from a variety of plant species, their importance and functional roles in plant responses to changing environmental conditions are largely unknown. Here, we investigated the functional roles of a CsHMGB isolated from cucumber （Cucumis sativus L.） in plant responses to environmental stimuli. Under normal growth conditions or when subjected to cold stress, no differences in plant growth were found between the wild-type and transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana overexpressing CsHMGB. By contrast, the transgenic Arabidopsis plants displayed retarded germination compared with the wild-type plants when grown under high salt or dehydration stress conditions. Germination of the transgenic plants was delayed by the addition of abscisic acid （ABA）, implying that CsHMGB affects germination through an ABA-dependent way. The expression of CsHMGB had affected only the germination stage, and CsHMGB did not affect the seedling growth of the transgenic plants under the stress conditions. The transcript levels of several germination-responsive genes were modulated by the expression of CsHMGB in Arabidopsis. Taken together, these results suggest that ectopic expression of a CsHMGB in Arabidopsis modulates the expression of several germinationresponsive genes, and thereby affects the germination of Arabidopsis plants under different stress conditions.

Inequalities on the Inner Radius of Univalency and the Norm of Pre-Schwarzian Derivative

In this paper, we get a lower bound of inner radius of univalency of Schwarzian derivative by means of the norm of pre-Schwarzian derivative. Furthermore, we apply the theory of Universal Teichmuller Space to explain its geometric meaning which shows the relationship between the inner radius in Universal Teichmuller Space embedded by Schwarzian derivative and the norm defined in Universal Teichmuller Space embedded by pre-Schwarzian derivative.

Occurrence and distribution of hydroxylated isoprenoid glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers(OH-GDGTs) in the Han River system, South Korea

We investigated the occurrence and distribution of terrestrial-derived hydroxylated isoprenoid glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers(OH-GDGTs) in the Han River system and their potential impact on the application of the ring index of OH-GDGTs(RI-OH) as a sea surface temperature(SST) proxy in the eastern Yellow Sea. Thereby, we analyzed various samples collected along the Han River and from its surrounding areas(South Korea, n = 34). The OHGDGTs were found in all samples investigated. OH-GDGT-0 was the dominant OH-GDGT component in the estuary and marine samples while OH-GDGT-2 was generally dominant in the soils, the lake sediments and the river suspended particulate matter(SPM). Our results thus suggests a possible warm bias of the RI-OH-derived summer SSTs in the coastal zone to which a large amount of terrestrial organic matter is being supplied. Further studies are necessary to better assess the applicability of the RI-OH proxy in the eastern Yellow Sea.

Honeybees are the most critical pollinators providing key ecosystem services that underpin crop production and sustainable *** a backdrop of rapid global change,this eusocial insect encounters a succession of stressors during nesting,foraging,and *** mites,together with vectored viruses,have been recognized as central biotic threats to honeybee health,while the spread of invasive giant hornets and small hive beetles also increasingly threatens colonies *** of agrochemicals,including acaricides used for mite treatment,and other pollutants of the environment have been widely documented to affect bee health in various ***,expanding urbanization,climate change,and agricultural intensification often result in the destruction or fragmentation of flower-rich bee *** anthropogenic pressures exerted by beekeeping management practices affect the natural selection and evolution of honeybees,and colony translocations facilitate alien species invasion and disease *** this review,the multiple biotic and abiotic threats and their interactions that potentially undermine bee colony health are discussed,while taking into consideration the sensitivity,large foraging area,dense network among related nestmates,and social behaviors of honeybees.

Extrusion process of Acanthopanax senticosus leaves enhances the gastroprotective effect of compound 48/80 on acute gastric mucosal lesion in rats

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the gastroprotective effects of Acanthopanax senticosus leaves(ASLs)extrusion on acute gastric mucosal lesion in rats induced by compound 48/80(C48/80).METHODS:Rats were divided into six groups:normal;C48/80-induced gastric lesion control;gastric lesion positive control(famotidine 4 mg/kg);gastric lesion administered with two levels of extruded ASLs(ASLE,40 and 200 mg/kg);and gastric lesion treated with ASLs(ASL 200 mg/kg).Mucus secretion/damage was determined by immunohistological *** and western blotting were performed to determine gastric mucosal Bax and Bcl-2 *** mucosal oxidative-stress-related enzymes and malondialdehyde were ***:C48/80-induced mucus depletion and inflammation in the gastric mucosa were significantly attenuated by *** increased serum serotonin and histamine concentrations in C48/80-treated rats were also attenuated by *** mucosal Bax protein expression was increased and Bcl-2 expression was decreased after C48/80 treatment,and ASLs ameliorated Bax and Bcl-2 *** extrusion process significantly augmented the effects of ASLs in a dosedependent *** at 200 mg/kg normalized mucus damage/secretion,C48/80-induced increases of mucosal myeloperoxidase activity(index of inflammation),xanthine oxidase,and malondialdehyde content(index of lipid peroxidation).The effects of ASLs on Bax and Bcl-2expression were also enhanced by ***,these effects of ASLEs at 200 mg/kg were similar to those of famotidine,a histamine H2-receptor antagonist commonly used to treat gastric ***:ASLEs prevented acute gastric mucosal lesion progression induced by C48/80,possibly by inducing mucus production,and reduced inflammation and oxidative stress in gastric mucosa through an anti-apoptotic mechanism.

Multiple-Object Tracking Using Histogram Stamp Extraction in CCTV Environments

Object tracking,an important technology in the field of image processing and computer vision,is used to continuously track a specific object or person in an *** technology may be effective in identifying the same person within one image,but it has limitations in handling multiple images owing to the difficulty in identifying whether the object appearing in other images is the *** tracking the same object using two or more images,there must be a way to determine that objects existing in different images are the same ***,this paper attempts to determine the same object present in different images using color information among the unique information of the ***,this study proposes a multiple-object-tracking method using histogram stamp extraction in closed-circuit television *** proposed method determines the presence or absence of a target object in an image by comparing the similarity between the image containing the target object and other *** this end,a unique color value of the target object is extracted based on its color distribution in the image using three methods:mean,mode,and interquartile *** Top-N accuracy method is used to analyze the accuracy of each method,and the results show that the mean method had an accuracy of 93.5%(Top-2).Furthermore,the positive prediction value experimental results show that the accuracy of the mean method was 65.7%.As a result of the analysis,it is possible to detect and track the same object present in different images using the unique color of the *** the results,it is possible to track the same object that can minimize manpower without using personal information when detecting objects in different *** the last response speed experiment,it was shown that when the mean was used,the color extraction of the object was possible in real time with 0.016954 *** this,it is possible to detect and track the same object in real time when using the proposed

Characteristic model based adaptive controller design and analysis for a class of SISO systems

The design of an adaptive controller and stability analysis of the corresponding closed loop system are discussed for a class of SISO systems based on the characteristic model method. The obtained characteristic model is a second-order slow time-varying linear system with a compress mapping function for the system modeling error. The pole placement method is used to design the controller, and sufficient conditions for the stability of the closed loop system are obtained based on the robust control theory of slow time-varying systems with perturbations. The effectiveness of the proposed method is illustrated by two numerical examples.

Opportunistic access control for enhancing security in D2D-enabled cellular networks

In this paper, we investigate secure communication over cellular uplinks in device-to-device(D2 D)-enabled cellular networks. We consider a more general scenario, in which multiple D2 D pairs could simultaneously share the same resource block with a specific cellular user. First, an opportunistic access control scheme based on wireless channel gains is proposed, by which the candidate selected set of D2 D pairs sharing the same resource block is determined. The proposed scheme could guarantee reliable communications for both cellular users and D2 D pairs, and further could combat eavesdroppers while keeping the legitimate cellular user as non-intrusive as possible, regarding D2 D pairs as friendly jammers in a non-collaborative way. Then, we derive theoretical results to characterize the security and reliability of the typical cellular and D2 D links, respectively. To further support the performance of this hybrid network, we next present an interference threshold optimization model. Our aim is to minimize the connection outage probability(COP)of D2 D pairs subject to the secrecy requirement of the cellular user. Finally, simulation results are presented to validate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.

Effect of adding Lactobacillus plantarum and soluble carbohydrates to swine manure on odorous compounds, chemical composition and indigenous flora

Manure odor, which results in the increasing complaints and lawsuits, has increased the tension among swine producers and surrounding residents. The effects of Lactobacillus plantarum and different rates of soluble carbohydrates additions to swine manure on odorous compounds, chemical compounds and indigenous flora were evaluated. Additions were calculated on dried manure weight basis. Variables monitored included ammonia （NH3）, hydrogen sulfide （H2S）, odor offensiveness, pH, ammonium nitrogen（NH4^＋-N）, volatile fatty acids （VFAs）, urease and indigenous flora. The results indicated that the combination of L. plantarum and soluble carbohydrates dramatically reduced manure pH. Lower pH resulted in the reduction of NH3 volatilization （34.6%-92.4%, P〈0.01）, the increases of H2S （P〈 0.05） and NH4^＋-N （5.3%-17.5%, P〈0.05）. In addition, L. plantarum and soluble carbohydrates additions significantly reduced odor offensiveness, those VFAs related to malodor indicators（valeric acids, 12.3%-47.7%, P〈 0.05; iso-valeric, 3.5%-23.8%） and the main microorganisms responsible for odor production, with the number of Eubacteria in swine manure reducing by 4.9%, 11.6%, 17.4%, 34.1% and 32.2% respectively.
