Background Understanding the evolution of circadian rhythm dysfunction and psychopathology in the high-risk population has important implications for the prevention of bipolar ***,some of the previous studies on the emergence of psychopathologies and circadian dysfunction among high-risk populations were inconsistent and *** To examine the prevalence rates of sleep and circadian dysfunctions,mental disorders and their symptoms in the offspring of parents with(O-BD)and without bipolar disorder(O-control).Methods The study included 191 O-BD and 202 O-control subjects aged 6-21 years from the greater Bay Area,*** diagnoses and symptoms of sleep/circadian rhythm and mental disorders were assessed by the Diagnostic Interview for Sleep Patterns and Disorders,and the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age children-Present and Lifetime Version,*** estimating equations and shared frailty proportional hazards models of survival analysis were applied to compare the outcomes in the *** Adjusting for age,sex and region of recruitment,there was a significantly higher risk of delayed sleep phase symptoms(9.55%vs 2.58%,adjusted OR:4.04)in O-BD than in O-control.O-BD had a nearly fivefold higher risk of mood disorders(11.70%vs 3.47%,adjusted OR:4.68)and social anxiety(6.28%vs 1.49%,adjusted OR:4.70),a fourfold higher risk of depressive disorders(11.17%vs 3.47%,adjusted OR:3.99)and a threefold higher risk of mood symptoms(20.74%vs 10.40%,adjusted OR:2.59)than *** analysis revealed that O-BD children(aged under 12 years)had a nearly 2-fold higher risk of any mental and behavioural symptoms than O-control,while there was a nearly 4-fold higher risk of delayed sleep phase symptoms,a 7.5-fold higher risk of social anxiety and a 3-fold higher risk of mood symptoms in O-BD adolescents(aged 12 years and over).Conclusions There was an increase in delayed sleep phase symptoms in O-BD

gIS-based Evaluation on the Fault Motion-Induced Coseismic Landslides

Earthquake-induced potential landslides are commonly estimated using landslide susceptibility maps. Nevertheless, the fault location is not identified and the ground motion caused by it is unavailable in the map. Thus, potential coseismic landslides for a specific fault motion-induced earthquake could not be predicted using the map. It is meaningful to incorporate the fault location and ground motion characteristics into the landslide predication model. A new method for a specific fault motion-induced coseismic landslide prediction model using gIS (geographic Information System) is proposed herein. Location of mountain ridges, slope gradients over 45 o , PVgA (Peak Vertical ground Accelerations) exceeded 0.15 g, and PHgA (Peak Horizontal ground Accelerations) exceeded 0.25 g of slope units were representing locations that initiated landslides during the 1999 chi-chi earthquake in Taiwan. These coseismic landslide characteristics were used to identify areas where landslides occurred during Meishan fault motion-induced strong ground motions in chiayi County in Taiwan. The strong ground motion (over 8 gal in the database, 1 gal = 0.01 m/s 2 , and 1 g = 981 gal) characteristics were evaluated by the fault length, site distance to the fault, and topography, and their attenuation relations are presented in gIS. The results of the analysis show that coseismic landslide areas could be identified promptly using gIS. The earthquake intensity and focus depth have visible effects on ground motion. The shallower the focus depth, the larger the magnitude increase of the landslides. The gIS-based landslide predication method is valuable combining the geomorphic characteristics and ground motion attenuation relationships for a potential region landslide hazard assessment and in disaster mitigation planning.

Vitreous haemorrhage:a population-based study of the incidence and risk factors in Taiwan

AIM：To report the epidemiology and incidence of vitreous hemorrhage and to evaluate risk factors for patients with vitreous hemorrhage（VH）in ***：A retrospective population-based *** a sample of one million subjects from all enrollees of the Taiwan Health Insurance programme. All data were obtained from the Taiwan Health Insurance Research Database,which contained patient sex,date of birth,all records of clinical visits and hospitalizations,and diagnosis codes as included in the International Classification of Diseases,Ninth Revision,Clinical Modification（ICD-9-CM）. The main outcome measures were the incidence and risk factors of ***：From 2001 to 2010,the database claim 4379 newly diagnosed cases were identified with VH. The average incidence of VH in Taiwan was 4.8 cases per ten-thousand person-years generally and increased with time especially in subjects who aged between 40 and 59 y and when the VH was associated with proliferative diabetic retinopathies or retinal vein occlusions. A de-finitely upward trends in the incidence of VH from 2001 to 2010 were noted（P-value for increasing trend 〈0.001）. Univariate Cox＇s regression analysis pointed out that older age（for 40-59,P〈0.001,HR=9.39; for ≥60,P〈0.001,HR=11.39）,male gender（P=0.03,HR=1.07）and subjects who had been prescribed anti-coagulation drug included aspirin,warfarinand clopidogrel（P〈0.001,HR=2.20）were significant risk factors for suffering from ***：The incidence of VH is estimated being 4.8 cases per 10 000 person-years in Taiwan. Age,male gender and having been prescribed anti-coagulation drugs are associated with the incidence of VH.

Apoptosis induced by nucleosides in the human hepatoma Hepg2

AIM: To investigate the apoptotic effects of nucleosides on the human hepatoma ***: The nucleosides included inosine (I), cytidine(C), uridine (U), thymidine (T), adenosine (A), and guanosine (g). Cells were incubated by the mediums with or without nucleosides at 37 ℃ in a 50 mL/L CO2 humidified ***: It was found that the cell viabilities were significantly decreased, when cells were treated with 30 mmol/L I, 30 mmol/L C, 30 mmol/L U, 30 mmol/L T,0.5 mmol/L A, and 0.5 mmol/L g after 12 h incubation (P＜0.05). About the apoptotic phenomenon, the cell percentages of sub-g1 cells were significantly increased in the mediums containing nucleosides such as C, U, T,A, and g (P＜0.05). Furthermore, the caspase-3 activity was increased, when the cells were incubated with T(P＜0.05). The protein expressions of p53 and p21 showed no difference in each group. To investigate the mechanism of apoptosis induced by nucleosides, it was found that the contents of soluble Fas ligand contents were increased in Hepg2 cells following I, U, T, and A treatment (P＜0.05).But, TNF-α and cytochrome c were ***: Thymidine may induce the apoptosis in Hepg2, but the effective dosages and reactive time must be investigated in the future study. However, the apoptosis-inducing abilities of other nucleosides were still unclear in this study.

Effects of fermented soy milk on the liver lipids under oxidative stress

AIM: To investigate the effects of fermented soy milk powder on the antioxidative status and lipid metabolism in the livers of CCl4-injected ***: Forty-five healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to five groups according to five different diets: control (AIN-76), AIN-76+highdose fermented soy milk powder, AIN-76+low-dose fermented soy milk powder, AIN-76+high-dose milk yogurt powder and AIN-76+low-dose milk yogurt powder. The experiment lasted for 8 wk. After 4 wk, all the rats received intraperitoneal administration of CCl4 (0.2 mL/100 g body weight) every week. Total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (Tg), TBARS, ALP, and antioxidative enzymes in the liver were ***: There was also no significant difference in TBARS and antioxidative enzymes in the liver. TC and Tg in the groups fed with fermented soy milk powder were generally lower than those fed with casein ***: Consumption of fermented soy milk was positive in lowering total cholesterol and Tg accumulation in the liver under CCl4-induced oxidative stress.

Background Post-operation pain is a very subjective phenomenon. The aim of this study was to find out the effects of acupuncture or electro-acupuncture on post-cesarean pain. Methods Sixty women, who had had spinal anesthesia during cesarean section at the Department of Obstetrics of china Medical University Hospital, were randomly assigned to the control group, the acupuncture group, and the electro-acupuncture group. After the operation, we applied subjects with acupuncture or electro-acupuncture on the bilateral acupuncture point, San Yin Jiao （Sp6）, and the patient controlled analgesia （PCA）. The first time of requesting morphine, the frequency of PCA demands in 24 hours, and the doses of PCA used were recorded double blindly. In addition, monitoring the subjects＇ vital signs, the opioid-related side effects, and the pain scores was done. Results The results showed that the acupuncture group and the electro-acupuncture group could delay the time of requesting morphine up to 10-11 minutes when compared with the control group. The total dose of PCA used within the first 24 hours was 30%-35% less in the acupuncture group and the electro-acupuncture group when compared with the control group, which was indicated in statistical significance. However, there was no significant difference between the acupuncture group and the electro-acupuncture group. The electro-acupuncture group＇s and the acupuncture group＇s pain scores were lower than the control group＇s within the first 2 hours. Both were statistically significant. However, two hours later, there were no significant differences of the visual analogue scale （VAS） scores between either of the treatment groups and the control group. Finally, the incidence of opioid-related side effects, such as dizziness, was less in the acupuncture group and electro-acupuncture group than in the control group. Background: Alterations of rest-activity pattern are common among the patients with bipolar disorder and increasingly seen among their family members. There is emerging evidence of rest-activity pattern alterations with regard to the emergence of psychopathologies in the high-risk population. However, the genetic associations between rest-activity pattern and bipolar disorder are largely unknown. The current study aimed to determine the genetic associations of objective rest-pattern and bipolar disorder by using a large-scale pedigree ***: A total of 835 participants(58.6% female;mean age: 28.93 ± 16.53 years old) of 320 families were recruited in this study from a bipolar offspring study, of whom 120 participants had bipolar disorder. All the participants were invited to accomplish the screening clinical interviews to determine the diagnosis of bipolar disorder. One-week Actigraphy was employed to continuously measure rest-activity pattern, including rest pattern parameters, activity pattern parameters, and circadian rhythm parameters. The activity data were cleaned and analyzed carefully by the "ggIR" package(version 1.11-0) in R project. The Sequential Oligogenic Linkage Analysis Routines(SOLAR) program was used to analyze the genetic associations of objective rest-activity pattern with bipolar ***: Totally, 9 rest pattern parameters, 8 activity pattern parameters, and 7 circadian rhythm parameters derived from Actigraphic data were examined. Eight rest pattern parameters, 7 activity pattern parameters, and 3 circadian rhythm parameters were found to have significant heritability(h2 range: 0.22 – 0.49). Three activity pattern parameters and two circadian rhythm parameters were found to be genetically associated with bipolar disorder. After further adjustment by the Benjamini-Hochberg false discovery rate control procedure, only the genetic associations of start time of active period(ρg = 0.51, Q =.03) and daytime total sustained inactivity
