Esophageal cancer is the second most common type of cancer after lung carcinoma in the state of Jammu and Kashmir(J&K).The understanding of genetics in Esophageal cancer development is poor in the *** wide association studies(GWAS)has proved to be unsurpassed tool in identification of new loci associated with different *** in Chinese population has identified SNP rs2294693 present in UNC5CL(UNC-5 Family C-Terminal like)to be associated with non-cardia gastric *** performed a case control association study and genotyped the SNP rs2294693 using Taqman allele discrimination assay in 566 individuals(166 esophageal cancer patients and 400 controls)belonging to the J&K population.A statistically significant protective association with allelic odds ratio of 0.73(0.56–0.94 at 95%CI)and p value=0.016 was *** is the first study in relation to esophageal cancer in the Jammu and Kashmir population,so far it has been studied in association with gastric carcinoma in the Chinese population *** results indicate that the polymorphism rs2294693 is associated with esophageal cancer susceptibility and the mutant(T)allele might be a protective factor for esophageal cancer among Jammu and Kashmir *** the functional characterization of the variation is also warranted.

We report a green and facile approach for the synthesis of NiFe2O4(NF)nanoparticles with good *** prepared materials are studied by various techniques in order to know their phase structure,crystallinity,morphology and elemental *** BET analysis revealed a high surface area of 80.0 m^2·g^-1 for NF possessing a high pore volume of 0.54 cm^3·g^-1,also contributing to the amelioration of the electrochemical *** NF sample is studied for its application in supercapacitors in an aqueous 2 mol·L^-1 KOH *** properties are studied both in the three-electrode method and in a symmetrical supercapacitor *** show a high specific capacitance of 478.0 F·g^-1 from the CV curve at an applied scan rate of 5 mV·s^-1 and 368.0 F·g^-1 from the GCD analysis at a current density of 1A·g^-1 for the NF ***,the material exhibited an 88%retention of its specific capacitance after continuous 10000 cycles at a higher applied current density of8 A·g^-*** encouraging properties of NF nanoparticles suggest the practical applicability in high-performance supercapacitors.

Epigenetic basis of hepatocellular carcinoma: A network-based integrative meta-analysis

AIM To identify the key epigenetically modulated genes and pathways in HCC by performing an integrative meta-analysis of all major, well-annotated and publicly available methylation datasets using tools of network *** Pub Med and Gene Expression Omnibus were searched for genome-wide DNA methylation datasets. Patient clinical and demographic characteristics were obtained. DNA methylation data were integrated using the Ingenuity Pathway Analysis, a software package for visualizing and analyzing biological networks. Pathway enrichment analysis was performed using IPA, which also provides literature-driven and computationallypredicted annotations for significant association of genes to curated molecular *** From an initial 928 potential abstracts, we identified and analyzed 11 eligible high-throughput methylation datasets representing 354 patients. A significant proportion of studies did not provide concomitant clinical data. In the promoter region, HIST1H2AJ and SPDYA were the most commonly methylated, whereas HRNBP3 gene was the most commonly hypomethylated. ESR1 and ERK were central genes in the principal networks. The pathways most associated with the frequently methylated genes were G-protein coupled receptor and c AMP-mediated signalling. CONCLUSION Using an integrative network-based analysis approach of genome-wide DNA methylation data of both the promoter and body of genes, we identified G-protein coupled receptor signalling as the most highly associated with HCC. This encompasses a diverse range of cancer pathways, such as the PI3 K/Akt/m TOR and Ras/Raf/MAPK pathways, and is therefore supportive of previous literature on gene expression in HCC. However, there are novel targetable genes such as HIST1H2 AJ that are epigenetically modified, suggesting their potential as biomarkers and for therapeutic targeting of the HCC epigenome.

The study aims to investigate how relying on short-term debt may help Chinese listed firms to make efficient investment decisions and reduce overinvestment problem for low-growth *** study uses a large set of panel data of nonfinancial Chinese listed firms over the period 2007–2017 and,using the robust twostage generalized method of moments,which is robust to unobserved heterogeneity of individual firms and addresses endogeneity *** show a positive relationship between growth and investment;this association is enhanced by leverage,especially for high-growth *** supports the view that short-term debt helps Chinese firms to make optimal use of leverage and therefore make better investment ***,the results reveal that leverage plays a disciplining and monitoring role to reduce overinvestment incentive for low-growth ***,the study suggests that shareholders should consider short-term debt to mitigate the debt overhang problem and restrict the opportunistic behavior of managers,which can lead to efficient investment *** also provides foreign investors insights about capital structure in China,and how it can help them make better investment decisions.

In vivo evidence of IGF-I–estrogen crosstalk in mediating the cortical bone response to mechanical strain

Although insulin-like growth factor-I （IGF-I） and estrogen signaling pathways have been shown to be involved in mediating the bone anabolic response to mechanical loading, it is not known whether these two signaling pathways crosstalk with each other in producing a skeletal response to mechanical loading. To test this, at 5 weeks of age, partial ovariectomy （pOVX） or a sham operation was performed on heterozygous IGF-I conditional knockout （H IGF-I KO） and control mice generated using a Cre-loxP approach. At 10 weeks of age, a 10 N axial load was applied on the right tibia of these mice for a period of 2 weeks and the left tibia was used as an internal non-non-loaded control. At the cortical site, partial estrogen loss reduced total volumetric bone mineral density （BMD） by 5% in control pOVX mice （P=0.05, one-way ANOVA）, but not in the H IGF-I KO pOVX mice. At the trabecular site, bone volume/total volume （BV/TV） was reduced by 5%-6% in both control pOVX （P〈0.05） and H IGF-I KO pOVX （P=0.05） mice. Two weeks of mechanical loading caused a 7 %-8% and an 11%-13% （P〈0.05 vs. non-loaded bones） increase in cortical BMD and cortical thickness （***）, respectively, in the control sham, control pOVX and H IGF-I KO sham groups. By contrast, the magnitude of cortical BMD （4%, P=0.13） and *** （6%, P〈0.05） responses were reduced by 50% in the H IGF-I KO pOVX mice compared to the other three groups. The interaction between genotype and estrogen deficiency on the mechanical loading-induced cortical bone response was significant （P〈0.05） by two-way ANOVA. Two weeks of axial loading caused similar increases in trabecular BV/TV （13%-17%） and thickness （17%-23%） in all four groups of mice. In conclusion, partial loss of both estrogen and IGF-I significantly reduced cortical but not the trabecular bone response to mechanical loading, providing in vivo evidence of the above crosstalk in mediating the bone response to loading.

Forest management practices such as prescribed burning and thinning in forest ecosystems may alter the properties of soil organic matter （SOM）. In this study, surface softs from field plots in the Bankhead National Forest, Alabama, USA, were used to investigate possible SOM transformations induced by thinning and burning. Elemental analysis and solid-state 13C cross polarization magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance （13C CPMAS NMR） spectroscopy were used to characterize SOM fractions in whole soils, humic substances, and density fractions. Our data revealed that the changes in SOM fractions due to the repeated burning carried out in the forest ecosystem studied were involved mainly with alkyl C, O-alkyl C, and carbohydrate functional groups, implying that most prominent reactions that occurred involved dehydrogenation, de-oxygenation, and decarboxylation. In addition, burning and thinning might have also affected the distribution and composition of free and occluded particulate SOM fractions. The limited structural changes in SOM fractions suggested that low-intensity prescribed fire in the forest ecosystem studied will not create major structural changes in SOM fractions.

Understanding variability in seed germination among populations is essential for planning an effective germplasm collection for restoration and conservation *** knowledge of germination and dormancy patterns among populations of desert grasses is crucial for determining the potential of the species and populations to be used for restoration and conservation as well as forage *** in seed germination of Panicum turgidum Forssk and Pennisetum divisum(Gmel.)*** the desert of Kuwait was evaluated in different populations in May *** of seed germination(25 seeds and 4 replicates)was conducted for each population at night/day temperatures of 15℃/20℃and 20℃/30℃under the following light condition:continuous darkness or 12 h/12 h light/*** showed that seed masses of both species strongly varied according to their seed provenances,and both species produced heavier seeds in population with a higher soil electrical *** germination percentage considerably varied between two species,and the variation in *** was greater(17%–49%)than that of ***(72%–93%).Germination percentage in *** was greater at high temperature(20℃/30℃)than at low temperature(15℃/20℃).However,temperature regimes had no effect on germination percentage of *** *** germination time of both species exhibited significant inter-population *** result is especially relevant to assure the selection of the best population of each species and the regeneration success of the *** this,inter-population variability also provides valuable information for enhancing our understanding of the mechanisms that regulate seed germination and how they might be related to seed provenance.
