Applying Downscaled Global Climate Model Data to a Groundwater Model of the Suwannee River Basin, Florida, USA

The application of Global Climate Model (GCM) output to a hydrologic model allows for comparisons between simulated recent and future conditions and provides insight into the dynamics of hydrology as it may be affected by climate change. A previously developed numerical model of the Suwannee River Basin, Florida, USA, was modified and calibrated to represent transient conditions. A simulation of recent conditions was developed for the 372-month period 1970-2000 and was compared with a simulation of future conditions for a similar-length period 2039-2069, which uses downscaled GCM data. The MODFLOW groundwater-simulation code was used in both of these simulations, and two different MODFLOW boundary condition “packages” (River and Streamflow-Routing Packages) were used to represent interactions between surface-water and groundwater features. The hydrologic fluxes between the atmosphere and landscape for the simulation of future conditions were developed from dynamically downscaled precipitation and evapotranspiration (ET) data generated by the Community Climate System Model (CCSM). The downscaled precipitation data were interpolated for the Suwannee River model grid, and the downscaled ET data were used to develop potential ET and were interpolated to the grid. The future period has higher simulated rainfall (10.8 percent) and ET (4.5 percent) than the recent period. The higher future rainfall causes simulated groundwater levels to rise in areas where they are deep and have little ET in either the recent or future case. However, in areas where groundwater levels were originally near the surface, the greater future ET causes groundwater levels to become lower despite the higher projected rainfall. The general implication is that unsaturated zone depth could be more spatially uniform in the future and vegetation that requires a range of conditions (substantially wetter or drier than average) could be detrimentally affected. ＜正＞Ducted VLF waves can interact via cyclotron resonance with counterstreaming electrons in or near the equatorial plane resulting in particle precipitation giving localised electron density enhancements in the D-region（LIEs） which then cause phase and amplitude perturbations on subionosphere VLF propagation（Trimpi effect）. Elevated miR-33a and miR-224 in steatotic chronic hepatitis Cliver biopsies

AIM:To assess the expression of selected microRNAs(miRNA) in hepatitis C,steatotic hepatitis C,noninfected steatotic and normal liver ***:The relative expression levels of miR-21,miR-33 a,miR-96,miR-122,miR-125 b,miR-221 and miR-224 were determined in 76 RNA samples isolated from 18 non-steatotic and 28 steatotic chronic hepatitis C(CHC and CHC-Steatosis,respectively) cases,18 non-infected,steatotic liver biopsies of metabolic origin(Steatosis) and 12 normal formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded liver tissues using TaqMan MicroRNA *** CHC biopsy samples were obtained prior to initiating ***' serum biochemical values,which included glucose,triglyceride,cholesterol,alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),gamma-glutamyl-transferase(GGT),alkaline phosphatase(AP),were obtained and correlated with relative miRNA ***:When compared with control non-infected liver samples,miR-122 and miR-221 levels were reduced in CHC-Steatosis(P < 0.03) and in CHC,CHCSteatosis and Steatosis(P < 0.01).Alternatively,the expression of miR-33 a and miR-224 were elevated in CHC-Steatosis and Steatosis in comparison to control tissue(P < 0.01).The levels of miR-33 a and miR-224 in CHC-Steatosis(P < 0.02) and miR-224 in Steatosis(P < 0.001) were increased in comparison to CHC *** contrast,the expression of miR-21 did not differ statistically between diseased and normal liver *** of miR-33 a correlated negatively with serum AST and AP levels in Steatosis as well as with necroinflammatory grade in CHC,whereas miR-21 correlated positively with AST in Steatosis and displayed negative correlation with triglyceride level in *** contrast,miRNA levels were not correlated with ALT,GGT,cholesterol levels or fibrosis ***:Differences in miRNA expression were observed between CHC and steatotic CHC,CHC and steatotic liver,but not between steatotic CHC and steatotic liver of metabolic origin.
