This work aims to determine the phytochemical characterization of the pericarp of Chamaedorea radicalis *** as a non-timber product with potential to obtain phytochemicals with potential applications in the *** from *** were grouped in four ripening stages named as S1,S2,S3 and S4,according to maturity;S1 the most unripe stage and S4 the completely ripe *** of total phenolic compounds,free radical scavenging activities and total flavonoid contents using spectrophotometric methods were ***,the tentative identification of phytochemicals during fruit ripening was done using *** phenolic compound(TPC)content ranged from 7.24 to 12.53 mg gallic acid equivalents per gram of fresh weight(mg GAE/g FW).Total flavonoids(TF)contents ranged from 0.163 to 0.23 mg of quercetin equivalents per g FW(mg QE/g FW).Free radical scavenging activity against DPPH and ABTS radicals varied from 40.80 to 53.68 and from 22.29 to 37.76 mmol Trolox equivalents g FW(mmol TE/g FW),*** assay in vitro by FRAP(ferric reducing antioxidant power)method showed that S3 was the highest level with antioxidant power while S4 was the lowest with Red ripeness stage showed the lowest contents for all *** spectrometry allowed detection of 26 compounds,including phenolics,alkaloids and ***,Kaempferol 3-neohesperidoside and the four saponins identified were present in all ripeness *** phytochemical identification and the spectrophotometric determinations showed that the pericarp of *** presented antioxidants and compounds related to alkaloids,phenolics and *** presence and abundance of each phytochemical regarding each ripeness stage should be considered.

Computer simulations based on Discrete Element Method have been performed in order to investigate the influence of interparticle interactions on the kinetics of self-assembly and the mechanical strength of nanoparticle aggregates. Three different systems have been considered. In the first system the interaction between particles has been simulated using the jKR （johnson, Kendall and Roberts） contact theory, while in the second and third systems the interaction between particles has been simulated using van der Waals and electrostatic forces respectively. In order to compare the mechanical behaviour of the three systems, the magnitude of the maximum attractive force between particles has been kept the same in all cases. However, the relationship between force and separation distance differs from case to case and thus, the range of the interparticle force. The results clearly indicate that as the range of the interparticle force increases, the self-assembly process is faster and the work required to produce the mechanical failure of the assemblies increases by more than one order of magnitude.

The snowpack is changing across the globe,as the climate warms and *** used daily snow water equivalent(SWE)niveograph(time series of SWE)data from 458 snow telemetry(SNOTEL)stations for the period 1982 through *** indices based on amount,timing,time length,and rates were used to describe the annual temporal evolution in SWE accumulation and *** trends in these annual indices were computed over the time period for each station using the Theil-Sen *** trends were then clustered into four groups to determine the spatial pattern of SWE *** and precipitation data were extracted from the PRISM data set,due to the shorter time period of temperature measurement at the SNOTEL *** show that SNOTEL stations can be clustered in four clusters according to the observed trends in snow *** 1 stations are mostly located in the Eastern-and South-eastern most parts of the study area and they exhibit a generalized decrease in the indices related with peak SWE and snow *** stations recorded a negative trend in precipitation and an increase in *** 4 that is mostly restricted to the North and North-west of the study area shows an almost opposite pattern to cluster 1,due to months with positive trends and a more moderate increase of *** grouped in clusters 2 and 3 appear mixed with clusters 1 and 4,in general they show very little trends in the snow indices.

The steam reforming of glycerol has been studied at 500 and 600 oC using Co/SBA-15 and Co/M/SBA-15（M: Zr, Ce, or La） promoted catalysts. The prepared materials were characterized by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy（ICP-AES）, X-ray powder diffraction（XRD）, hydrogen temperatureprogramed reduction（H;-TPR）, ammonia temperature-programed desorption（NH;-TPD）, nitrogen physisorption analysis（N;-BET）, transmission electron microscopy（TEM） and thermogravimetric analysis（TGA）. The incorporation of promoters like Zr, Ce and La on SBA-15 support and successive Co impregnation leaded to smaller cobalt crystallites improving metaldispersion. Besides, stronger metal-support interactions between Co species and M/SBA-15 supports were observed. Thanks to the incorporation of Zr, La and mainly Ce, promoted catalysts present higher glycerol conversion than Co/SBA-15 along 5 h of time on stream. Besides, at 600 oC, Co/M/SBA-15（M: Zr, Ce, or La） catalysts produce higher hydrogen amounts than Co/SBA-15.

Ongoing uncertainty over the relative importance of aerosol transmission of COVID-19 is in part rooted in the history of medical science and our understanding of how epidemic diseases can spread through human populations. Ancient Greek medical theory held that such illnesses are transmitted by airborne pathogenic emanations containing particulate matter(“miasmata”). Notable Roman and medieval scholars such as Varro, Ibn al-Khatib and Fracastoro developed these ideas, combining them with early germ theory and the concept of contagion. A widely held but vaguely defined belief in toxic miasmatic mists as a dominant causative agent in disease propagation was overtaken by the science of 19th century microbiology and epidemiology, especially in the study of cholera, which was proven to be mainly transmitted by contaminated water. Airborne disease transmission came to be viewed as burdened by a dubious historical reputation and difficult to demonstrate convincingly. A breakthrough came with the classic mid-20th century work of Wells, Riley and Mills who proved how expiratory aerosols(their “droplet nuclei”)could transport still-infectious tuberculosis bacteria through ventilation systems. The topic of aerosol transmission of pathogenic respiratory diseases assumed a new dimension with the mid-late 20th century “Great Acceleration” of an increasingly hypermobile human population repeatedly infected by different strains of zoonotic viruses, and has taken centre stage this century in response to outbreaks of new respiratory infections that include coronaviruses. From a geoscience perspective, the consequences of pandemic-status diseases such as COVID-19, produced by viral pathogens utilising aerosols to infect a human population currently approaching 8 billion, are far-reaching and unprecedented. The treatment of wastewaters is crucial to maintain the ecological status of receiving waters,and thereby guarantee the protection of aquatic life and human *** quality evaluation is conventionally based on physicochemical parameters,but increasing attention has been paid to integrate physicochemical and biological ***,the regulatory use of fish in biological testing methods has been subject to various ethical and cost concerns,and in vitro cell-based assays have thus become an important topic of ***,the present study intends:(a) to evaluate the efficiency of two different sample pre-concentration techniques (lyophilisation and solid phase extraction) to assess the toxicity of municipal effluents on rat cardiomyoblast H9c2(2-1) cells,and (b) maximizing the use of the effluent sample collected,to estimate the environmental condition of the receiving *** gathered results demonstrate that the H9c2(2-1) sulforhodamine B-based assay is an appropriate in vitro method to assess biological effluent toxicity,and the best results were attained by lyophilising the sample as *** to its response,the H9c2(2-1) cell line might be a possible alternative in vitro model for fish lethal testing to assess the toxicity of municipal *** physicochemical status of the sample suggests a high potential for eutrophication,and iron exceeded the permissible level for wastewater discharge,possibly due to the addition of ferric chloride for wastewater *** general,the levels of carbamazepine and sulfamethoxazole are higher than those reported for other countries,and both surpassed the aquatic protective values for long-term exposure.

The use of X-ray microtomographic （XMT） methods in analysing particulate systems has expanded rapidly in recent years with the availability of affordable desk-top apparatus. This review presents a summary of the major applications in which computer simulations are explicitly coupled with XMT in the area of granular and porous materials. We envisage two main ways of establishing the coupling between both techniques, based on the transference or exchange of information by using physical or geometrical parameters （i.e. a parametric link through fitting to a process model） or through the direct use of3D XMT digital images （i.e. comparing image pixels and features directly）. Examples of coupled applications are shown for the study of transport properties of rocks, particle packing, mechanical loading and sintering. Often, the link between XMT and computer simulations is based on visual comparisons and we conclude that the use of quantitative parameters such as the number of interparticle contacts, force networks or granule shape to link both techniques is still underrepresented in the literature. Strategies to provide a more robust and quantitative approach to optimise the information obtained from such tomography analyses are proposed. 2010 Chinese Society of Particuology and Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Modeling of daily pan evaporation using partial least squares regression

This study presented the application of partial least squares regression （PLSR） in estimating daily pan evaporation by utilizing the unique feature of PLSR in eliminating collinearity issues in predictor variables. The climate variables and daily pan evaporation data measured at two weather stations located near Elephant Butte Reservoir, New Mexico, USA and a weather station located in Shanshan County, Xinjiang, China were used in the study. The nonlinear relationship between climate variables and daily pan evaporation was successfully modeled using PLSR approach by solving collinearity that exists in the climate variables. The modeling results were compared to artificial neural networks （ANN） models with the same input variables. The resuits showed that the nonlinear equations developed using PLSR has similar performance with complex ANN approach for the study sites. The modeling process was straightforward and the equations were simpler and more explicit than the ANN black-box models.
