Over the past decades,empirical evidence has been accumulated indicating that olfactory information plays a fundamental role in bird life ***,many aspects of avian olfaction remain poorly *** purpose was to broaden the knowledge about the importance of the sense of smell in some neglected bird groups:psittaciformes and ramphastids,and to compare how the response varied between the *** of the lack of information about the use of chemical cues for locating food in fruit-eating species,we also aimed to delve into this *** conducted a 3-choice(water/vinegar/papaya and banana juice)scent test in 5 Costa Rican native species:scarlet macaw(Ara macao),red-lored amazon(Amazona autumnalis),yellow-naped amazon(Amazona auropalliata),keel-billed toucan(Ramphastos sulfuratus),and yellow-throated toucan(Ramphastos ambiguus).Results revealed that macaws and toucans allocated signiﬁcantly more time to interacting with the fruit scent container,indicating that these species can perceive the volatile chemicals emitted by ripe fruits and that they can use this information to make foraging ***,amazons did not dedicate more time to interact with the fruit *** research provides theﬁrst evidence of the ability to exploit chemical volatile cues in macaws and toucans.

End-stage liver disease is frequently caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) andalcohol consumption. Notably, the mechanism by which alcohol affects the courseof HBV-associated liver disease is unknown, and additional research is needed inthis area. A reduced immunological response, oxidative stress, endoplasmicreticulum stress, Golgi apparatus stress, and enhanced HBV replication are a fewpotential causes.

Ecosystem services(ES)are highly impacted by human-induced land-use *** urbanization and agricultural land abandonment in Western Europe necessitate assessments of future land-change impacts on ES to ensure sustainable service *** present study aims at evaluating future demand and supply of three key services(flood protection,nearby recreation and biodiversity)in the mountainous region of Vorarlberg,*** mapped the ES for the referenced time step 2016 and two scenarios for 2050,assuming the continuation of current land-change trends and pressure on landscape *** for the referenced landscape in 2016 show the highest ES supply for intermediate levels,while ES supply was low in the lowlands and valley bottoms and in high-elevation *** found a high positive correlation of ES with the distribution of forested *** contrast,service demand was highest in lowelevation areas and decreased with increasing *** indicates that densely settled and intensively used agricultural areas currently suffer from ES *** projected future development of land use showed an increase in both supply and demand of the selected *** overall service supply increased more than the respective demand due to some reforestation of open *** forests were found to be important synergistic areas for overall service provision,we expect decreasing demand on related ***,demand was found to exceed the supply of ES,especially in the densely populated Rhine valley-requiring further policy *** ES-related information may contribute to regional policy making and ensure the long-term provision of ESs for future generations.

Understanding of the dynamic particulate flow structures within a dense gas-fly ash pneumatic conveyor must be improved in order to better aid its design *** complex pulsatile movement of the gas-fly ash mixture dominates the flow performance within the pipeline,and historically,non-invasive measurement devices such as the electrical capacitance tomography（ECT） were often used to sufficiently capture the flow ***,inadequate studies have been conducted on the pulsatile flow phenomenon,which directly relate to the gas-fly ash two-phase flow *** paper aims to investigate the pulsatile flows using an ECT ***,pulsatile flow patterns under various experimental conditions were obtained through *** within a flow were then characterised into pulse growth and decay segments,which represent the superficial fluidisation and deaeration processes during ***,structural and statistical analyses were performed on the pulse growth and decay *** suggested that the increasing air mass flow rate led to the decrease of the superficial fluidisation/deaeration magnitude,however,the increase of the superficial fluidisation/deaeration ***,the air mass flow rate was indicated as the dominant factor in determining the pulsing statistical *** research provides fundamental insights for further modelling the dense fly ash pneumatic flows.

The authors of this study note that in liver transplantation(LT),the survival rates of hepatitis C virus(HCV)-positive donors and HCV-negative receivers are compa-rable to those of HCV-negative donors and ***-acting antiviral(DAA)therapies have nearly 100%effectiveness in treating *** 2006 and 2016,the percentages of HCV-positive patients on the waiting list and HCVpositive LT recipients fell by 8.2 percent and 7.6 percent,*** from April 1,2014,in which the donor and receiver were both at least 18 years old and had a positive HCV status,were the only ones eligible for the *** analysis for this study was restricted to the first transplant recorded for each patient using a data element that documented the number of prior transplants for each recipient,although some recipients appeared multiple times in the data ***-positive recipients or people with fulminant hepatic failure were the main beneficiaries of primary biliary cirrhosis among HCV-positive ***,there is still a reticence to use HCV-positive donor organs in HCV recipients due to clinical and ethical *** survival rates between HCV-positive donors and recipients and HCV-negative donors and receivers illustrate the efficacy of these DAA regimens.

Visual cues are important in both interspecific and intraspecific *** species confidence hypothesis proposes that animals are more attracted to conspecific colors and repelled by colors,not on their *** on terrestrial lizards and birds have tested the species confidence hypothesis and shown that conspecific colors elicit reduced antipredator *** date,the species confidence hypothesis has not been tested in the marine environment,specifically on coral reefs where color communication is of vital *** addressed this knowledge gap by measuring flight initiation distance(the distance an individual moves away from an approaching threat)in dusky damselfish(Stegastes nigricans)in response to an approaching disc of 1 of 4 different color treatments:conspecific,blue,yellow,and *** the species confidence hypothesis explained variation in damselfish flight initiation distance,then we expected individuals to tolerate closer approaches when approached by a conspecific *** addition,we calculated the color difference between each stimulus and its corresponding back-ground as a potential alternative explanation for flight *** tolerated the closest approach from the conspecific color stimulus;there were no significant differences between other colors and there was no support for the alternative color difference *** with similar terrestrial studies,these results are relevant to ecotourists'choice of swimsuit and wetsuit colors because color choice may modify naturalantipredatorbehavior.

AIM To examine patient knowledge and factors influencing knowledge about pregnancy in British women with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).METHODS This is a post hoc analysis of a study of female members of Crohn's and Colitis United Kingdom, aged 18-45 years who were sent an online questionnaire recording patient demographics, education, employment, marital status, and disease characteristics. Disease related pregnancy knowledge was recorded using Crohn's and colitis pregnancy knowledge score(CCPKnow).RESULTS Of 1324 responders, 776(59%) suffered from Crohn's disease, 496(38%) from ulcerative colitis and 52(4%) from IBD-uncategorised. CCPKnow scores were poor(0-7) in 50.8%, adequate(8-10) in 23.6%, good(11-13) in 17.7% and very good(≥ 14) in 7.8%. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that higher CCPKnow scores were independently associated with higher educational achievement(P < 0.001), younger age at diagnosis(P = 0.003) and having consulted a health care professional about pregnancy and IBD(P = 0.001). CONCLUSION Knowledge was poor in 50%. Speaking with healthcare professionals was a modifiable factor associated with better knowledge. This illustrates the importance of disease related pregnancy

In this editorial,we comment on pancreatic cancer(PC),one of the most aggressive and lethal *** minimal improvements in survival rates have been achieved over recent *** chemotherapeutic regimens have little impact,and surgical resection remains the only reliable curative *** address current treatment options for these patients,focusing on the usefulness of breast cancer(BRCA)gene mutation as a prognostic biomarker and predictor of response to *** survival outcomes have been reported in patients with PC and mutant BRCA gene treated with first-line platinum-based ***,it appears appropriate to include BRCA gene status among clinical criteria used to select the chemotherapy *** addition,maintenance treatment with poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase inhibitors has been found to improve progression-free survival in patients with PC and mutated BRCA whose disease does not progress after first-line platinum-based *** combination has therefore been proposed as the optimal treatment regimen for these patients.
