Comparison of laboratory parameters,clinical symptoms and clinical outcomes of COVID-19 and influenza in pediatric patients:A systematic review and meta-analysis

BACKGROUND New and more severe clinical manifestations associated with the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) are emerging constantly in the pediatric age *** in this age group are also primary carriers of the influenza virus and are at a higher risk of developing severe ***,studies comparing influenza and COVID-19 to show which condition causes a more severe form of disease amongst the pediatric age group are *** To compare the laboratory results,clinical symptoms and clinical outcomes in pediatric patients with COVID-19 and *** A systematic and comprehensive search was carried out in databases and search engines,including EMBASE,Cochrane,MEDLINE,ScienceDirect and Google Scholar from 1964 until January 2022.A meta-analysis was carried out using a random-effects model and pooled odds ratio(OR) or standardized mean difference(SMD) and 95%*** A total of 16 studies satisfied the inclusion *** COVID-19 patients had a significantly reduced risk of cough(pooled OR = 0.16;95%CI:0.09 to 0.27),fever(pooled OR = 0.23;95%CI:0.12 to 0.43),and dyspnea(pooled OR = 0.54;95%CI:0.33 to 0.88) compared to influenza ***,total hemoglobin levels(pooled SMD = 1.22;95%CI:0.29 to 2.14) in COVID-19 patients were significantly higher as compared to pediatric influenza *** was no significant difference in symptoms such as sore throat,white blood cell count,platelets,neutrophil and lymphocytes levels,and outcomes like mortality,intensive care unit admission,mechanical ventilation or length of hospital *** COVID-19 is associated with a significantly lower rate of clinical symptoms and abnormal laboratory indexes compared to influenza in the pediatric age ***,further longitudinal studies of the outcomes between influenza and COVID-19 pediatric patients are needed.

Experimental study on WFeNiMo high-entropy alloy projectile penetrating semi-infinite steel target

The appearance of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) makes it possible for a material to possess both high strength and high ductility. It is with great potential to apply HEAs under extreme conditions such as in the penetration process. In this paper, experiments of WFeNiMo HEA and tungsten heavy alloy (WHA) projectiles penetrating medium-carbon steel were conducted by using the ballistic gun and two-stage light-gas gun that can accelerate projectiles to impact velocities ranging from 1162 m/s to 2130 m/s. Depth of penetration (DOP) at elevated impact velocities of HEA and WHA projectiles were obtained firstly. Combined with the macroscopic and microscopic analysis of the residual projectiles, the transition of the penetration mode of the WFeNiMo HEA projectile was identified systemically. The experimental results indicated that the penetration mode of the HEA projectile changes from self-sharpening to mushrooming with the increase of impact velocity, while for the WHA projectile, the penetration mode is always mushrooming. The microstructure of the residual HEA projectiles showed that the phases tangle with each other and the morphology of the microstructure of the phases differs in the two penetration modes. Besides, the evolution of shear bands and fractures varies in the two modes. The evolution of the microstructure of HEAs causes the sharp-pointed nose to disappear and the HEA projectile ultimately becomes blunt as the impact velocity increases.

The layer Hall effect describes electrons spontaneously deflected to opposite sides at different layers, which has been experimentally reported in the MnBi2Te4thin films under perpendicular electric fields. Here, we reveal a universal origin of the layer Hall effect in terms of the so-called hidden Berry curvature, as well as material design principles. Hence, it gives rise to zero Berry curvature in momentum space but non-zero layer-locked hidden Berry curvature in real space. We show that, compared to that of a trivial insulator, the layer Hall effect is significantly enhanced in antiferromagnetic topological insulators. Our universal picture provides a paradigm for revealing the hidden physics as a result of the interplay between the global and local symmetries, and can be generalized in various scenarios.

Comparison of biliary protein spectrum in gallstone patients with obesity and those with normal body weight

Background: Obesity is a common public health issue and is currently deemed a disease. Research has shown that the risk of gallstones in individuals with obesity is elevated. This study aimed to explore the bile proteomics differences between cholelithiasis patients with obesity and normal body weight. Methods: Bile samples from 20 patients(10 with obesity and 10 with normal body weight) who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy at our center were subjected to tandem mass tag labeling(TMT) and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(LC-MS/MS), followed by further bioinformatic analysis. Results: Among the differentially expressed proteins, 23 were upregulated and 67 were downregulated. Bioinformatic analysis indicated that these differentially expressed proteins were mainly involved in cell development, inflammatory responses, glycerolipid metabolic processes, and protein activation cascades. In addition, the activity of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor(PPAR, a subfamily of nuclear receptors) signaling pathway was decreased in the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG) enrichment analysis. Two downregulated proteins in the PPAR signaling pathway, APO A-Ⅰ and APO A-Ⅱ, were confirmed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Conclusions: The PPAR signaling pathway may play a crucial role in the development of cholelithiasis among patients with obesity. Furthermore, biliary proteomics profiling of gallstones patients with obesity is revealed, providing a reference for future research.

Using Copula functions to predict climatic change impacts on floods in river source regions

Flood frequency in river source regions is significantly affected by rainfall and snowmelt as part of climatic changes.A traditional univariate flood frequency analysis cannot reflect the complexity of floods,and when used in isolation,it can only underestimate flood *** effective flood prevention and mitigation,it is essential to consider the combined effects of precipitation and *** functions can effectively quantify the joint distribution relationship between floods and their associated variables without restrictions on their distribution *** study uses copula functions to consider a multivariate probability distribution model of flood peak flow(Q)with cumulative snowmelt(CSm)and cumulative precipitation(CPr)for the Hutubi River basin located in northern Xinjiang,*** joint frequencies of rainfall and snowmelt floods are predicted using copula models based on the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 *** results show that Q has a significant positive correlation with 24-d CSm(r=0.559,p=0.002)and 23-d CPr(r=0.965,p<0.05).Flood frequency will increase in the future,and mid-(2050e2074)and long-term(2075e2099)floods will be more severe than those in the near-term(2025e2049).The probability of flood occurrence is higher under the SSP2-4.5 and SSP1-2.6 scenarios than under *** during the historical period(1990e2014)led to extreme floods,and increasing future precipitation trends are found to be *** increases with rising temperatures and occurs earlier than estimated,leading to an earlier flood period in the basin and more frequent snowmelt *** Q under the joint return period is larger than that during the same univariate return *** difference indicates that neglecting the interaction between precipitation and snowmelt for floods leads to an underestimation of the flood risk(with underestimations ranging from 0.3%to 22%).The underestimations decrease with an increase

Stability Switches of a Double-delayed Mussel-algae System

The stable switching phenomenon of a diffusion mussel-algae system with two delays and half saturation constant is studied. The stability of positive equilibrium and the existence of Hopf bifurcation on two-delay plane are investigated by calculating the stability switching curves. The normal form on the central manifold near Hopf bifurcation point is also derived. It can find that two different delays can induce the stable switches which cannot occur with the same delays. Through numerical simulations, the region of complete stability of system increases with the increase of half-saturation constant, indicating that the half-saturation constant contributes to the stability of system. In addition, double Hopf bifurcations may occur due to the intersection of bifurcation curves. These results show that two different delay and half-saturation constant have important effects on the system. The numerical simulation results validate the correctness of the theoretical analyses.

Preparation of PVA/GO/h-BN Janus Film with High Thermal Conductivity and Excellent Flexibility via a Density Deposition Self-assembly Method

Janus films with asymmetric physical/chemical properties have attracted considerable attention due to their promising applications in personal thermal management, electronic skins, sensors, actuators, etc. However, traditional methods for fabricating Janus films conventionally need the assistance of an interface or auxiliary equipment, which are usually complex and time-consuming. Herein, flexible poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/graphene oxide (GO)/h-BN (recorded as PVA/GO/h-BN) Janus films with thermally, optically, and electrically anisotropic properties are fabricated by a simple density deposition self-assembly method, which just utilizes the density difference between GO and h-BN during water evaporation. Experimental results show that the two sides of the acquired Janus films have obvious asymmetric characteristics. In the original state of the PVA/GO/h-BN Janus films, the thermal conductivity of the GO side (10.06 Wm(-1)K-1) is generally lower than that of the h-BN side (10.48 Wm(-1)K-1). But after GO is reduced, the thermal conductivity of the rGO side reaches 12.17 Wm(-1)K-1, surpassing that of the h-BN side. In addition, the relative reflectance of the h-BN side of Janus film is also significantly higher than that of the rGO side, and the surface resistance difference between the two sides is about 4 orders of magnitude. The prepared PVA/GO/h-BN Janus films show great application potential in human thermal management, light conversion switches, and electronic skins. This study provides a simple and versatile strategy for fabricating Janus films with multifunctional (such as thermal, optical, and electrical) anisotropies.

In this study, a high-carbon nano-bainitic GCr15Si1Mo bearing steel was investigated. Specifically, the effects of content and size of undissolved carbides on the microstructure and transformation kinetics of nano-bainite were analyzed. The results demonstrated that after prolonged austempering at low temperatures, the mixed microstructure composed of nano-bainite (NB), undissolved carbides (UC), and retained austenite (RA) was obtained in GCr15SiMo steel. When the experimental steel was austenitized at 900 ℃, the undissolved carbides gradually dissolved until reaching a stable state with increasing holding time. Furthermore, at the same austempering temperature, despite different volume fractions of undissolved carbides in the substrate, the volume fractions of nano-bainite in the final microstructures remained essentially the same. Moreover, the higher the content of undissolved carbides in steel, the faster the transformation rate of nano-bainite and the shorter the total transformation time.
