Comparing electrocatalytic hydrogen and oxygen evolution activities of first-row transition metal complexes with similar coordination environments

Developing cheap and efficient electrocatalysts for water splitting is required for energy conversion techniques.Many first-row transition metal complexes have been shown to be active for the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER).Metal ions play crucial roles in these catalytic processes,but the activity dependence on the nature of metal ions has been rarely studied due to the difficulty to compare metal complexes with different coordination environments.We herein reported the synthesis of a series of metal complexes of azido-substituted porphyrin(1),in which metal ions have very similar coordination environments.By grafting 1-M(M=Mn,Fe,Co,Ni,and Cu)onto alkynefunctionalized carbon nanotubes(CNTs)through the same covalent connection,the resulted hybrids 1-M@CNT were all active and robust for both electrocatalytic HER and OER in alkaline aqueous solutions.Among these hybrids,1-Fe@CNT displayed the highest electrocatalytic activity for HER,while 1-Co@CNT was the most active one for OER.Moreover,a two-electrode water electrolysis cell assembled with 1-Fe@CNT as the cathode and 1-Co@CNT as the anode required smaller applied bias potential by210 mV to get 10 mA/cm^(2)current density as compared to that assembled with Pt/C and Ir/C with the same amount of metal loading.This work is significant to correlate HER and OER activity with the nature of first-row transition metal ions and to highlight promising potential applications of molecular electrocatalysis in water splitting.

Micro/nanoprocessing of graphene surfaces has attracted significant interest for both science and applications due to its effective modulation of material properties,which,however,is usually restricted by the disadvantages of the current fabrication methods.Here,by exploiting cylindrical focusing of a femtosecond laser on graphene oxide(GO)films,we successfully produce uniform subwavelength grating structures at high speed along with a simultaneous in situ photoreduction process.Strikingly,the well-defined structures feature orientations parallel to the laser polarization and significant robustness against distinct perturbations.The proposed model and simulations reveal that the structure formation is based on the transverse electric(TE)surface plasmons triggered by the gradient reduction of the GO film from its surface to the interior,which eventually results in interference intensity fringes and spatially periodic interactions.Further experiments prove that such a regular structured surface can cause enhanced optical absorption(>20%)and an anisotropic photoresponse(~0.46 ratio)for the reduced GO film.Our work not only provides new insights into understanding the laser-GO interaction but also lays a solid foundation for practical usage of femtosecond laser plasmonic lithography,with the prospect of expansion to other two-dimensional materials for novel device applications.

Plants play an important role in soil phosphorus nutrition. However, the effect of plants on phosphorus nutrition in soils of the Loess Plateau of China is not well understood. This study was conducted to reveal the relationships between plants and phosphorus＇ fractions and availability in the Loess Plateau of China. Twenty-two plant communities were surveyed and soil samples under different plant canopies were collected for the determination of soil properties and inorganic phosphorus fractionation. The results showed that Leguminosae and Lilaceae reduced pH and increased organic matter, cation exchange capacity, total and Olsen phosphorus in soils under their canopies, while Labiatae and Rosaceae increased pH and decreased organic matter, cation exchange capacity, total and Olsen phosphorus in soils under their canopies. The contents of Ca2P, CasP, AI-P and Fe-P were highly related with soil Oisen phosphorus. They were all higher in soils under Leguminosae and Lilaceae and lower in softs under Labiatae and Rosaceae. The results of this study indicate that Leguminosae and Lilaceae improved phosphorus nutrition in soils, yet Labiatae and Rosaceae impeded the improvement of phosphorus nutrition in soils under their canopies, which will be of more help to instruct vegetation restoration in the region and provide information for soil development.

全直肠系膜切除术(TME)成为中低位直肠癌手术的金标准已近30年,然而因TME术中神经损伤导致的术后排尿及性功能障碍至今仍未得到明显改善。基于膜解剖的理念,我们对直肠前方的重要膜解剖结构——邓氏筋膜进行了细致而系统的研究,从解剖、生理、组织、手术实践等多方面,验证了保留邓氏筋膜对TME术中神经保护及术后排尿和性功能障碍预防的重要作用;并通过邓氏筋膜术中标记线及手术入路的解剖研究,明确了保留邓氏筋膜全直肠系膜切除术(iTME)的可操作性。据此,我们开展了一项大型多中心随机对照研究,中期研究结果显示,与传统TME相比,iTME在不影响短期肿瘤根治效果的前提下,能更好地降低男性中低位直肠癌患者术后排尿及性功能障碍发生率。我们相信,基于膜解剖的iTME随机对照试验最终研究成果,将为直肠癌手术理念的更新提供夯实的循证医学证据。

头颈部鳞状细胞癌(head and neck squamous cell carcinoma,HNSCC)是最常见的恶性肿瘤之一,易复发和转移。目前,手术联合放化疗是HNSCC的常规治疗手段,但对已转移或复发的患者治疗效果不理想,预后不佳。因此,深入探讨HNSCC致病的分子机制至关重要。翻译后修饰(post-translational modifications,PTM)是蛋白质的氨基酸侧链上共价结合化学小分子基团,既是蛋白质功能调节的重要方式,也是当前表观遗传学的研究热点。近年研究发现肿瘤的发生常伴随PTM异常,并在肿瘤进展中起重要作用,PTM可作为肿瘤的诊疗靶点。本文就几种主要的蛋白质PTM与HNSCC的关系进行综述,包括乙酰化、甲基化及糖基化等,以期为HNSCC的诊治提供线索。

In this study, carbon aerogels were derived via the pyrolysis of resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) aerogels, which were cost-effectively manufactured from RF wet gels by an ambient drying technique instead of conventional supercritical drying. By varying the R/C ratio (molar ratio of resorcinol to catalyst), mesoporous carbon aerogels with high specific surface area were prepared successfully and further investigated as electrode materials for electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs). The textural properties of carbon aerogels obtained were characterized by nitrogen adsorption/desorption analysis and SEM. The electrochemical performances of carbon aerogels were investigated by impedance spectroscopy, galvanostatic charge/discharge and cyclic voltammetry methods. The results show that BET surface area and specific capacitance increase with R/C ratio, the maximum values of 727 m2·g-1 and 132 F·g-1 are achieved at R/C ratio will of 300. Increasing R/C ratio increase the average pore size of carbon aerogel electrode, which has improved the rate capability. Furthermore, EDLC with carbon aerogel electrodes has an excellent stability at large discharge current and long cycle life.

Increasing atmospheric CO2 concentration impacts the terrestrial carbon(C) cycle by affecting plant photosynthesis, the flow of photosynthetically fixed C belowground, and soil C pool turnover. For managed agroecosystems, how and to what extent the interactions between elevated CO2 and N fertilization levels influence the accumulation of photosynthesized C in crops and the incorporation of photosynthesized C into arable soil are in urgent need of exploration.We conducted an experiment simulating elevated CO2 with spring wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) planted in growth chambers.13C-enriched CO2 with an identical 13C abundance was continuously supplied at ambient and elevated CO2 concentrations(350 and 600 μmol mol-1, respectively) until wheat harvest.Three levels of N fertilizer application(equivalent to 80, 120, and 180 kg N ha-1 soil) were supplied for wheat growth at both CO2 concentrations. During the continuous 62-d 13CO2 labeling period, elevated CO2 and increased N fertilizer application increased photosynthesized C accumulation in wheat by 14%–24% and 11%–20%, respectively, as indicated by increased biomass production, whereas the C/N ratio in the roots increased under elevated CO2 but declined with increasing N fertilizer application levels. Wheat root deposition induced 1%–2.5% renewal of soil C after 62 d of 13CO2 labeling. Compared to ambient CO2, elevated CO2 increased the amount of photosynthesized C incorporated into soil by 20%–44%. However, higher application rates of N fertilizer reduced the net input of root-derived C in soil by approximately 8% under elevated CO2. For the wheat-soil system, elevated CO2 and increased N fertilizer application levels synergistically increased the amount of photosynthesized C. The pivotal role of plants in photosynthesized C accumulation under elevated CO2 was thereby enhanced in the short term by the increased N application. Therefore, robust N management could mediate C cycling and sequestration by influencing the interactions between plants and soil in agroecosyst

A novel approach, which can handle ambiguous data from weak targets, is proposed within the randomized Hough transform track-before-detect(RHT-TBD) framework. The main idea is that, without the pre-detection and ambiguity resolution step at each time step, the ambiguous measurements are mapped by the multiple hypothesis ranging(MHR) procedure. In this way, all the information, based on the relativity in time and pulse repetition frequency(PRF) domains, can be gathered among different PRFs and integrated over time via a batch procedure. The final step is to perform the RHT with all the extended measurements, and the ambiguous data is unfolded while the detection decision is confirmed at the end of the processing chain.Unlike classic methods, the new approach resolves the problem of range ambiguity and detects the true track for targets. Finally, its application is illustrated to analyze and compare the performance between the proposed approach and the existing approach. Simulation results exhibit the effectiveness of this approach.

明代提学设官后,由于职责与职权未能平衡,因此有的提学官试图打破令甲所限,在官学之外别建书院来走出制度困境。明代提学官所建书院有衙署、祭祀、聚徒讲学三大类型。影响最大的是聚徒讲学型书院,其中的精英教育以省级书院成就最高,一定程度上填补了官学系统中省一级的空白,是清代省会书院制度的先导。中晚明王学兴起后,王门后学利用担任提学官的机会,通过建设书院来传播新思想,更将讲会制度引入官办书院,通过思想与制度的双重渗透瓦解了官学体制中的师生秩序,以讲学同志的连属形成团体。此时,秉持取士之权的提学官在选拔讲学团体成员时面临私相授受的指控,进而引发了万历初年张居正的学政改革,明令提学官“不许别创书院”。此后,提学官通过建设书院来“教士”的行动遭到打击,逐渐向专于“校士”的职能转变。
