The killing of tumor cells by ionizing radiation beams in cancer radiotherapy is currently based on a rather empirical understanding of the basic mechanisms and effectiveness of DNA damage by *** contrast,the mechanical behaviour of DNA encompassing sequence sensitivity and elastic transitions to plastic responses is much better understood.A novel approach is proposed here based on a micromechanical Silicon Nanotweezers *** instrument allows the detailed biomechanical characterization of a DNA bundle exposed to an ionizing radiation beam delivered here by a therapeutic linear particle accelerator(LINAC).The micromechanical device endures the harsh environment of radiation beams and still retains molecular-level detection *** this study,the first real-time observation of DNA damage by ionizing radiation is *** DNA bundle degradation is detected by the micromechanical device as a reduction of the bundle stiffness,and a theoretical model provides an interpretation of the *** first real-time observations pave the way for both fundamental and clinical studies of DNA degradation mechanisms under ionizing radiation for improved tumor treatment.

A microfabrication process for poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene)(P(VDF-TrFE)) based flexible piezoelectric devices is proposed using heat controlled spin coating and reactive ion etching(RIE) *** etching of P(VDF-TrFE) in CF 4 +O2 plasma is found to be more effective than that using SF 6 +O2 or Ar+O2 feed gas with the same radiofrequency power and pressure conditions.A maximum etching rate of 400 nm/min is obtained using the CF 4 +O2 plasma with an oxygen concentration of 60% at an antenna power of 200 W and a platen power of 20 *** oxygen atoms and fluorine atoms are found to be responsible for the chemical etching *** of P(VDF-TrFE) with a feature size of 10 m is achieved and the patterned films show a high remanent polarization of 63.6mC/m 2.

Negotiation is both an important topic in multi-agent systems research and an important aspect of daily life. Many real-world negotiations are complex and involve multiple interdependent issues, therefore, there has been increasing interest in such negotiations. Existing nonlinear automated negotiation protocols have difficulty in finding solutions when the number of issues and agents is large. In automated negotiations covering multiple independent issues, it is useful to separate out the issues and reach separate agreements on each in turn. In this paper, we propose an effective approach to automated negotiations based on recursive partitioning using an issue dendrogram. A mediator first finds partial agreements in each sub-space based on bids from the agents, then combines them to produce the final agreement. When it cannot find a solution, our proposed method recursively decomposes the negotiation sub-problems using an issue dendrogram. In addition, it can improve the quality of agreements by considering previously-found partial consensuses. We also demonstrate experimentally that our protocol generates higher-optimality outcomes with greater scalability than previous methods.

The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of the ultrasound-microbubble technique in nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB) decoy oligodeoxynucleotide(ODN) transfection in the gingival tissue in mice. The 6-FAM-labeled scrambled decoy ODN with microbubbles was applied to the periodontal tissue in 8-week-old male C57BL/6J mice by ultrasound radiation at low(LUM-Sc) and high(HUM-Sc) intensities to optimize the transfection condition of the ultrasound-microbubble *** inspections were performed two hours after transfection to compare the expression with that in the sham-operated group without ultrasound radiation(A-Sc). Then, an NF-κB decoy was transfected into the periodontal tissue using the highintensity ultrasound-microbubble(HUM-NF) technique to examine the anti-inflammatory effects of the decoy ODN. Western blot analysis was performed to investigate the expression of interleukin(IL)-1β, IL-6 and intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1)in the gingival tissues in the HUM-Sc, the HUM-NF and control groups. The fluorescence microscopy results showed that the fluorescent intensity in the periodontal tissues in the LUM-Sc and HUM-Sc groups was significantly higher than that in the A-Sc and the control groups. The fluorescent intensity in the HUM-Sc group, especially in the gingival connective tissue,was the highest of all groups. Western blot analysis indicated that the protein expression levels of IL-1β, IL-6 and ICAM-1 in the HUM-NF group were significantly lower than those in the HUM-Sc and the control groups. These findings suggest that the high-intensity ultrasound-microbubble technique is an effective tool for decoy transfection into the periodontal tissue.

The effect of W on mechanical properties of 12% Cr-W-V-Nb heat resistant steel at high temperatures and room temperature is *** experimental results indicated that if the W content was about 2.2—3.0 wt-%,there was no obviously change of *** strength, but impact toughness decreased with the rise of W *** the other hand,the increase of W content enhanced the short time stress rupture strength,but did not for the long time one. The increase of W have two effects on the precipitation behavior,promoting Laves formation of type Fe_2W,increasing the precipitated phase amount and speeding up the coarsening pro- cess of precipitated phase at high *** effect of W on the mechanical properties is closely associated with precipitation *** the rupture life is short,there has no enough time to coarsen the precipitated phases,so the increase of precipitated phases results in strengthening effect,*** W increases the high temperature *** prolonged expo- sure,the evident coarsening took plaee,that decreased the effect of precipitation.

It has often been reported that, when building structures are subjected to near-fault earthquake ground motions, horizontal and vertical impulsive inputs may cause critical damage during the first few seconds. In practical design of building structures, however, the safety check, taking into account the effect of multi-component ground motions, is hardly conducted except the design of important structures such as high-rise buildings and nuclear power plants. Ftirthel＇more, it is not clear how the correlation of multi-component ground motions influences the actual safety of structures. In this paper, the detailed property of critical excitation is discussed in association with the relationship between the characteristics of ground motions and those of structures. The properties of various auto power spectral density （PSD） functions of the horizontal and vertical ground motions are investigated, and those of the critical cross PSD function of these two-directional ground motions are found by a devised algorithm in a feasible complex plane. A closed-form expression is derived from the critical relation of the auto PSD functions of the simultaneous inputs. This critical excitation method provides us with a new approach for earthquake-resistant design against the possible future earthquake which causes the critical damages to buildings.

Acidithiobacillusferrooxidans ATCC23270 and Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans TM-32 were used for bioleaching of spent refractories of aluminium and copper melting furnaces for their recycling. Firstly, penetration of elements into ahiminium melting furnace refractory was investigated and it was found that up to 7 cm from surface was contaminated. Comparison on leaching efficiency by the strains ATCC23270 and TM-32 found that the strain ATCC23270 could treat larger amount of the refractories than the strain TM-32 could do. In the experiment of bioleaching of spent refractory alumiulum melting furnace by the strain ATCC23270, high leaching efficiency were obtained on A1, Si, and Ca, and extremely low leaching performance was, however, shown on the rest of elements i.e., Na, Mn, and Zn. Under the strain TM-32 use, relatively high leaching performance was recognized on A1, Si, Ca, Na, Mn, and Zn. In the experiment of bioleaching for spent refractory copper melting furnace, almost the same leaching trends were shown on Cu, Zn, A1, and Si under the strains ACTT23270 and TM-32 uses.
