In vitro fertilization of in vitro matured oocytes in pigs has become the most popular method of studying gametogenesis and embryogenesis in this *** addition,because of recent advances in in vitro culture of those embryos,in vitro embryo production now enables us to generate viable embryos as successfully as for in vivo-derived embryos and with less cost and in less *** technologies contribute not only to developments in reproductive physiology and agriculture but also to conservation of porcine genetic resources. Until now,conservation of pig genetic recourses has been limited by cryopreservation of sperm and,in some cases, in vivo-derived *** aspects may decrease the general activates in ex situ conservation(gene banking) in this *** recent years,however,unique technologies such as xenografting of gonadal(testicular and ovarian) tissue into immunodeficient experimental animals,which are combined with in vitro embryo production technologies,have been developed to help conservation and utilization of gamete *** have already shown fertilizing ability and developmental ability of porcine embryos from gametes grown in ***,we discuss the possibility of conservation and utilization of pig resources by xenografting to mice.

Kissing molars (KMs) is a condition of occlusal molar surfaces in a single follicular space with roots extending in opposite directions. Here, we have reported a case of KMs in a 58-year-old woman. The patient complained of pain in the right mandibular molar region and was diagnosed with KMs consisting of the right mandibular second and third molars. Because of the patient’s pain having subsided at the time of the visit and her unwillingness to undergo tooth extraction, the patient was followed up. KMs is classified into three classes (I-III) and is either true-KMs or pseudo-KMs and presents with or without cystic variants of dental follicles. The presents as true-KMs class II without a cystic variant. With reference to the literature and based on our analysis, the mean age of patients affected by this specific case of KMs is 31.7 years and unilateral KMs is relatively more common (85.7%). Histopathological findings of dentigerous cysts are more often indicated (42.9%). The treatment policy for KMs should therefore be based on the classification of KMs. Importantly, the focus should be on preserving the first and second molars as much as possible. The treatment approach, such as the employment of surgical removal or orthodontics, should be determined by considering the associated factors such as the crowns, tissues, and age of the patient.

Malnutrition Assessed Using the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index Is Associated with Preoperative Incidence of Deep Vein Thrombosis in Japanese Patients Undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty

Purpose: Few studies have evaluated the association between malnutrition and the risk of preoperative deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in patients undergoing primary total joint arthroplasty. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of preoperative DVT in Japanese patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and the importance of malnutrition in the risk of preoperative DVT. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 394 patients admitted for primary TKA at our institution between January 2019 and December 2023. All patients scheduled for TKA at our institution had serum D-dimer levels measured preoperatively. Lower-limb ultrasonography was examined to confirm the presence of DVT in patients with D-dimer levels ≥ 1.0 µg/mL or who were considered to be at high risk of DVT by the treating physician. Based on the results of lower-limb ultrasonography, all patients were divided into the non-DVT and DVT groups. The incidence of and risk factors for preoperative DVT were investigated, as well as the correlation of DVT with the patient’s nutritional parameters. We used two representative tools for nutritional assessment: the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI) and Controlling Nutritional Status Score. Results: The mean age was 77.8 ± 6.9 years. Preoperative DVT was diagnosed in 57 of the 394 (14.5%) patients. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that advanced age and malnutrition status, assessed using the GNRI, were independent risk factors for preoperative DVT. Conclusion: A high incidence of preoperative DVT was observed in patients who underwent TKA. Malnutrition status, as assessed using the GNRI, increased the risk of preoperative DVT. Our findings suggest that clinicians should consider these factors when tailoring preventive strategies to mitigate DVT risk in patients undergoing TKA.

BACKGROUND Drug-eluting stents(DES)are used to treat lower extremity arterial *** DES treatment,aneurysmal degeneration occasionally occurs,especially with fluoropolymer-based ***,the incidence of pseudoaneurysms after DES placement is rarely reported in the lower extremity region,although there have been several reports on pseudoaneurysm formation after DES placement in the coronary artery *** SUMMARY We report the case of a 64-year-old man who presented with fever and pain in his left hand after *** was diagnosed by blood culture,and after admission,he developed pain on the medial side of the right thigh.A pseudoaneurysm was observed in the right superficial femoral artery(SFA)at the proximal end of a previously placed *** bacteremia was thought to have been caused by a pseudoaneurysm of the left superficial brachial artery,and the pseudoaneurysm of the left superficial brachial artery was removed after antibiotic *** pseudoaneurysm of the right SFA rapidly expanded after admission,but the expansion rate was reduced after infection *** months after the first admission,the pseudoaneurysm of the left SFA was re-moved and in situ revascularization performed using a rifampicin-soaked Dacron *** Although pseudoaneurysm after DES placement in the lower extremity region is rare,it must be considered in patients with bacteremia.

Malnutrition and Its Association with the Mortality of Patients with Femoral Intertrochanteric Fractures: A Retrospective Analysis of Japanese Patients

Background: The incidence of femoral intertrochanteric fractures in older adults is higher than that of femoral neck fractures;however, both conditions are often analyzed together as proximal femoral fractures. Considering the difference in treatment, postoperative complication, and mortality risk, these two fractures should be analyzed separately. This study aimed to analyze 1-year mortality and its risk factors in patients with surgically treated femoral intertrochanteric fractures. Methods: Consecutive patients with intertrochanteric fractures who underwent surgical interventions at our institution between January 2017 and December 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. A total of 238 patients were eligible for inclusion in this study. Patients’ demographic and clinical information were retrospectively collected. Patients were divided into the 1-year mortality (n = 16) and survival (n = 222) groups. The incidence of 1-year mortality and its independent risk factors were investigated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results: The mean age of patients was 85.6 ± 8.5 years. The 1-year mortality rate was 6.7% (16/238). Preoperative albumin level, the Geriatric Nutritional Risk Index (GNRI), and malnutrition status (GNRI p = 0.02, p = 0.02, and p = 0.0011, respectively). Multivariate analysis showed that malnutrition status (GNRI p = 0.035) was an independent risk factor for 1-year mortality. Conclusion: Malnutrition status assessed using GNRI (GNRI < 92) was an independent risk factor for 1-year mortality. Our findings suggest that GNRI may be an effective screening tool for predicting postoperative 1-year mortality of patients with surgically treated femoral intertrochanteric fractures.

The addition of surface acoustic wave(SAW)technologies to microfluidics has greatly advanced lab-on-a-chip applications due to their unique and powerful attributes,including high-precision manipulation,versatility,integrability,biocompatibility,contactless nature,and rapid ***,the development of SAW microfluidic devices is limited by complex and time-consuming micro/nanofabrication techniques and access to cleanroom facilities for multistep photolithography and vacuum-based *** simplify the fabrication of SAW microfluidic devices with customizable dimensions and functions,we utilized the additive manufacturing technique of aerosol jet *** successfully fabricated customized SAW microfluidic devices of varying materials,including silver nanowires,graphene,and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)polystyrene sulfonate(PEDOT:PSS).To characterize and compare the acoustic actuation performance of these aerosol jet printed SAW microfluidic devices with their cleanroom-fabricated counterparts,the wave displacements and resonant frequencies of the different fabricated devices were directly measured through scanning laser Doppler ***,to exhibit the capability of the aerosol jet printed devices for lab-on-a-chip applications,we successfully conducted acoustic streaming and particle concentration ***,we demonstrated a novel solution-based,direct-write,single-step,cleanroom-free additive manufacturing technique to rapidly develop SAW microfluidic devices that shows viability for applications in the fields of biology,chemistry,engineering,and medicine.

沿海声层析(Coastal Acoustic Tomography,简称CAT)是利用高频声信号实现近海大范围流场观测的有效手段,但其直接观测范围仍然有限。海洋数值模式提供了一种存在仿真误差的大范围海洋背景场,将CAT观测结果与海洋背景结果同化,可以提高流场结果的分辨率和准确度。本文提出一种利用流函数拟合海洋模式流场结果并使用集合卡尔曼滤波算法同化CAT数据的方法,获得更大范围的海洋水平二维流场结果。同化研究以非结构化网格有限体积海洋数值模式(Finite-Volume Community Ocean Model,简称FVCOM)作为背景场,以2016年6月1日至3日在印度尼西亚巴厘海峡(Bali Strait)进行的4站CAT实验作为观测数据。经过背景场流函数拟合和CAT数据同化,获得巴厘海峡二维流场。同化结果分别与同期观测结果和潮位数据对比,发现流函数拟合同化后的流场能更准确地描述巴厘海峡涨落潮和流量情况,通过引入CAT数据与流场的函数关系,可以有效地降低海洋模式的误差和原观测数据的稀疏性。

BACKGROUND High-dose steroid administration is a common initial therapeutic approach for Vogt–Koyanagi–Harada disease(VKH).Nonetheless,administering substantial doses of steroids to pregnant women necessitates meticulous consideration due to the potential impacts on the mother and *** present a case wherein steroid pulse therapy was administered to a patient who developed VKH during the late stages of *** SUMMARY The patient was a 26-year-old nulliparous *** 33 weeks and 1 day of her pregnancy,she experienced a decline in visual acuity and noticed metamorphopsia in her left *** revealed bilateral serous retinal detachment,leading to VKH diagnosis.A collaborative effort involving the departments of ophthalmology,internal medicine,and neonatology was *** pulse therapy was administered at 34 weeks and 1 day of pregnancy under hospital ***,such as threatened preterm labor and gestational diabetes,emerged,necessitating the initiation of oral ritodrine hydrochloride and insulin ***,serous retinal detachment was resolved,and visual acuity was *** pains initiated 32 days post-initiation of steroid pulse therapy(at 38 weeks and 4 days of gestation),culminating in a normal *** and newborn experienced an uneventful puerperal course and were discharged from the hospital on the 5th day following *** VKH management in pregnancy requires multidisciplinary coordination,emphasizing collaboration with ophthalmologists and specialists in internal medicine and neonatology.
