AIM:To investigate anxiety and depression propensities in patients with toxic liver ***:The subjects were divided into three groups:a healthy control group(Group 1,n=125),an acute non-toxic liver injury group(Group 2,n=124),and a group with acute toxic liver injury group caused by noncommercial herbal preparations(Group 3,n=126).These three groups were compared and evaluated through questionnaire surveys and using the Hospital Anxiety-Depression Scale(HADS),Beck Anxiety Inventory(BAI),Beck Depression Inventory(BDI),and the hypochondriasis ***:The HADS anxiety subscale was 4.9±2.7,5.0±3.0 and 5.6±3.4,in Groups 1,2,and 3,*** HADS depression subscale in Group 3 showed the most significant score(5.2±3.2,6.4±3.4 and 7.2±3.4in Groups 1,2,and 3,respectively)(Pjury.

AIM To assess the performance of proposed scores specific for acute-on-chronic liver failure in predicting shortterm mortality among patients with alcoholic *** We retrospectively collected data from 264 patients with clinically diagnosed alcoholic hepatitis from January to December 2013 at 21 academic hospitals in Korea. The performance for predicting short-term mortality was calculated for Chronic Liver FailureSequential Organ Failure Assessment(CLIF-SOFA), CLIF Consortium Organ Failure score(CLIF-C OFs), Maddrey'sdiscriminant function(DF), age, bilirubin, international normalized ratio and creatinine score(ABIC), Glasgow Alcoholic Hepatitis Score(GAHS), model for end-stage liver disease(MELD), and *** Of 264 patients, 32(12%) patients died within 28 d. The area under receiver operating characteristic curve of CLIF-SOFA, CLIF-C OFs, DF, ABIC, GAHS, MELD, and MELD-Na was 0.86(0.81-0.90), 0.89(0.84-0.92), 0.79(0.74-0.84), 0.78(0.72-0.83), 0.81(0.76-0.86), 0.83(0.78-0.88), and 0.83(0.78-0.88), respectively, for 28-d mortality. The performance of CLIF-SOFA had no statistically significant differences for 28-d mortality. The performance of CLIF-C OFs was superior to that of DF, ABIC, and GAHS, while comparable to that of MELD and MELD-Na in predicting 28-d mortality. A CLIF-SOFA score of 8 had 78.1% sensitivity and 79.7% specificity, and CLIF-C OFs of 10 had 68.8% sensitivity and 91.4% specificity for predicting 28-d *** CLIF-SOFA and CLIF-C OF scores performed well, with comparable predictive ability for short-term mortality compared to the commonly used scoring systems in patients with alcoholic hepatitis.

Background： Until now, various types of combined therapy with nucleotide analogs and pegylated interferon （Peg-INF） in patients with hepatitis B patients have been tried. Howe6ver, studies regarding the benefits of de novo combination, late-add on, and sequential treatmentare very limited. The objective of the current study was to identify the efficacy of sequential treatment of Peg-INF after short-term antiviral treatment. Methods： Between june 2010 and june 2015, hepatitis 13 e antigen （HBeAg）-positive patients （n = 162） received Peg-IFN for 48 weeks （mono-treatment group, n = 81） and entecavir （ETV） for 12 weeks with a 48-week course of Peg-IFN starting at week 5 of ETV therapy （sequential treatment group, n = 81）. The primary endpoint was HBeAg seroconversion at the end of follow-up period after the 24-week treatment. The primary endpoint was analyzed using Chi-square test, Fisher＇s exact test, and regression ***： HBeAg seroconversion rate （18.2% vs. 18.2%, t = 0.03, P = 1.000） and seroclearance rate （19.7% vs. 19.7%, t = 0.03, P = 1.000） were same in both mono-treatment and sequential treatment groups. The rate of alanine aminotransferase （ALT） normalization （45.5% vs. 54.5%, t = 1.12, P = 0.296） and serum hepatitis B virus （HBV）-DNA 〈2000 U/L （28.8% vs. 28.8%, t = 0.10, P = 1.000） was not different in sequential and mono-treatment groups at 24 weeks of Peg-INF. Viral response rate （HBeAg seroconversion and serum HBV-DNA 〈2000 U/L） was not different in the two groups （12.1% vs. 16.7%, t = 1.83, P = 0.457）. Baseline HBV-DNA level （7 log10 U/ml vs. 7.5 log10 U/ml, t = 1.70, P = 0.019） and hepatitis B surface antigen titer （3.6 log10 U/ml vs. 4.0 log10 U/ml, t = 2.19, P = 0.020） were lower and predictors of responder in mono-treatment and sequential treatment groups, respectively. Conclusions： The current study shows no differences in HBeAg seroconversion rate, ALT normalization, and HBV-DNA levels between mono-therapy and sequential therapy regimens.

The physicochemical processes of dielectric barrier discharge （DBD） such as insitu formation of chemically active species and emission of ultraviolet （UV）/visible light were utilized for the treatment of a simulated wastewater formed with Acid Red 4 as the model organic contaminant. The chemically active species （mostly ozone） produced in the DBD reactor were well distributed in the wastewater using a porous gas diffuser, thereby increasing the gas-liquid contact area. For the purpose of making the best use of the light emission, a titanium oxide-based photocatalyst was incorporated in the wastewater treating system. The experimental parameters chosen were the voltage applied to the DBD reactor, the initial pH of the wastewater, and the concentration of hydrogen peroxide added to the wastewater. The results have clearly shown that the present system capable of degrading organic contaminants in two ways （photocatalysis and ozonation） may be a promising wastewater treatment technology.

Upon exposure to light, developing seedlings undergo photomorphogenesis, as illustrated by inhibition of hypocotyl elongation, cotyledon opening, and leaf greening. During hypocotyl photomorphogenesis, light signals are sensed by multiple photoreceptors, among which the red/far-red light-sensing phytochromes have been extensively studied. However, it is not fully understood how the phytochromes modulate hypo- cotyl growth. Here, we demonstrated that HIGH EXPRESSION OF OSMOTICALLY RESPONSIVE GENES 1 （HOS1）, which is known to either act as E3 ubiquitin ligase or affect chromatin organization, inhibits the transcriptional activation activity of PHYTOCHROME INTERACTING FACTOR 4 （PIF4）, a key transcrip- tion factor that promotes hypocotyl growth. Consistent with the negative regulatory role of HOSl in hypo- cotyl growth, HOSl-defective mutants exhibited elongated hypocotyls in the light. Notably, phyB induces HOS1 activity in inhibiting PIF4 function. Taken together, these observations provide a molecular basis for the phyB-mediated suppression of hypocotyl growth in Arabidopsis.

The performance of solar cells is determined by three factors:the open-circuit voltage(Voc),short-circuit current density(Jsc),and fill factor(FF).The Voc and FF are determined by the material bandgap and the series/shunt resistance,***,Jsc is determined by the amount of incident light in addition to the bandgap of the *** this study,a moth-eye pattern was formed on a glass surface via direct printing to increase the amount of incident light and thus increase Jsc-The moth-eye pattern is a typical antireflection pattern that reduces the reflection by gradually increasing the refractive index.A flat perovskite solar cell(F-PSC)and a moth-eye patterned perovskite solar cell(M-PSC)had Jsc values of 23.70 and 25.50 mA/cm^2,*** power-conversion efficiencies of the F-PSC and M-PSC were 19.81%and 21.77%,respectively.

Uncontrolled land use land cover change(LULCC) is impacting watershed hydrology,particularly in tropical watersheds in developing countries. We assessed the extent of LULCC in the southern portion of the Nyong River basin through analysis of three land use maps in 1987, 2000 and2014. LULCC impact on hydrological variables of the Mbalmayo, Olama, Pont So’o, Messam, and Nsimi sub-watersheds of the southern portion of the Nyong River basin were evaluated by using the linear regression modeling and the Mann-Kendall test. This study reveals that dense forest cover decreased by16%, young secondary forest increased by 18%,agricultural/cropland increased by 10%, and built-up area/bare soil increased by 3% from 1987 to *** decrease in dense forest cover at 0.6% per year on average was driven by indiscriminate expansion of subsistence agricultural/cropland through shifting and fallow cultivation farming systems. Nonsignificant trends in total discharge, high flows, and low flows were observed in the large sub-watersheds of Mbalmayo and Olama from 1998 to 2013 with LULCC within the watershed. In contrast, significant decreasing trends in stream discharge(up to-5.1%and-5.9%), and significant increasing trends in high flows(up to 2.1% and 6.3%), respectively, were observed in the small sub-watersheds of Pont So’o and Messam from 1998 to 2013, particularly with increase in agricultural/cropland cover and decrease in dense forest cover. However, we found nonsignificant trends in mean annual discharge and low flows for all and whole watershed with LULCC. The results reveal spatially varying trends of stream discharge, low flows and high flows among the subwatersheds with LULCC within the study *** results suggest that the impacts of LULCC on watershed hydrology are easily detected in small subwatersheds than in large sub-watersheds. Therefore,the magnitude of dense forest cover loss must be significantly greater than 16% to cause significant changes and common trends

Plasma electrolytic oxidation （PEO） coatings are prepared on aluminium with graphite powders added into the electrolyte. The scanning electron microscopy （SEM） coupled with an energy dispersive x-ray analysis system （EDX） is used to characterize the surface and the cross-section morphologies of the coatings. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （EIS） is used not only to evaluate the corrosion resistance but also to analyse the structure of the coating. Results show that graphite powders are embedded in the PEO coating. The corrosion resistances of both the inner barrier and the outer porous layer are greatly improved, and the EIS could give some valuable detailed information about the coating structure.

Tree-ring reconstruction of streamflow for Palgong Mountain forested watershed in southeastern South Korea

Tree-ring chronologies from pine,oak and black locust tree species were used to reconstruct annual streamflow and examine hydrological drought years for Palgong Mountain forested watershed in southeastern South Korea for the period from 1954-2015. The backward elimination multiple regression analysis provided the statistically significant predictor chronologies of streamflow. The final calibration and verification test models accounted for 84.8% and 81.6%,respectively,of the variability in streamflow observed in the gage data. Further verification of the validity of the reconstructed model was undertaken with the Pearson Correlation Coefficient,the Reduction of Error Test,and the Durbin-Watson Statistics and indicated fidelity of the model for reconstructing the annual streamflow. Analyses of the reconstructed annual streamflow indicate that the most persistent years of high flows above the median annual discharge occurred from *** period included 7 single or multiple years of highest flow above the 90 th percentile discharge and multiple years of high flows with a time interval of 2-6 years,although with intervening multiple years of low flows below the 10 th and 50 th percentile. In comparison,the most persistent years of low flows below the median annual discharge occurred from 1954-1985 and 2009-2015. This period included 8 single or multiple years of lowest flow below the 10 th percentiledischarge and multiple years of low flows with a time interval of 2-9 years,although also with intervening multiple years of high flows above the 50 th percentile. No single years of extreme hydrological droughts below the 10 th percentile were identified from 1986-2015 whereas a greater proportion of high flows above the 90 th percentile occurred during this period.
