As important methods to guide the field soil compaction,the standard and modified Proctor tests for laboratory compaction have remained unchanged for decades,which should be improved to better understand the compaction process and the properties of *** this study,an accelerometer was installed on a Marshall impact compactor to capture the dynamic response of three types of soils during *** experimental test results indicated that the acceleration curve for each blow gradually evolved to a stable pattern following the progress of compaction,and the impact and gyratory locking points were linearly related with coefficient of determination R2equal to *** impact compaction curve could be further constructed by filtering the structural resonance,which can be used to quantify the compactability of soil *** each type of soil had a unique set of compaction curves,the slope and value of compaction curve altered accordingly as the moisture content changed for the same *** addition,the average acceleration value at the final compaction stage could serve as the target value of soil stiffness.

The lateral habenula(LHb),which is a critical neuroanatomical hub and a regulator of midbrain monoaminergic centers,is activated by events resulting in negative valence and contributes to the expression of both appetitive and aversive ***,whole-brain cell-type-specific monosynaptic inputs to the LHb in both sexes remain incompletely *** this study,we used viral tracing combined with in situ hybridization targeting vesicular glutamate transporter 2(vGlut2)and glutamic acid decarboxylase 2(Gad2)to generate a comprehensive whole-brain atlas of inputs to glutamatergic andγ-aminobutyric acid(GABA)ergic neurons in the *** found>30 ipsilateral and contralateral brain regions that projected to the *** these,there were significantly more monosynaptic LHb-projecting neurons from the lateral septum,anterior hypothalamus,dorsomedial hypothalamus,and ventromedial hypothalamus in females than in *** interestingly,we found a stronger GABAergic projection from the medial septum to the LHb in males than in *** results reveal a comprehensive connectivity atlas of glutamatergic and GABAergic inputs to the LHb in both sexes,which may facilitate a better understanding of sexual dimorphism in physiological and pathological brain functions.

The superior colliculus(SC),one of the most well-characterized midbrain sensorimotor structures where visual,auditory,and somatosensory information are integrated to initiate motor commands,is highly conserved across vertebrate ***,cell-type-specific SC neurons integrate afferent signals within local networks to generate defined output related to innate and cognitive *** review focuses on the recent progress in understanding of phenotypic diversity amongst SC neurons and their intrinsic circuits and long-projection *** further describe relevant neural circuits and specific cell types in relation to behavioral outputs and cognitive *** systematic delineation of SC organization,cell types,and neural connections is further put into context across species as these depend upon laminar ***,we focus on SC neural circuitry involving saccadic eye movement,and cognitive and innate ***,the review provides insight into SC functioning and represents a basis for further understanding of the pathology associated with SC dysfunction.

After nearly a decade of application and investigation, a motion amplification device with viscous dampers for energy dissipation has been recognized as an effective solution to mitigate wind or seismic excitation, especially for stiff structural systems. As a result of compensation of amplified motion, it has been proved that the efficiency of viscous damper largely depends on the motion amplification device configuration, particularly for device stiflhess. In this paper, a ＂scissor-jack＂ type of motion amplification device, called a ＂toggle brace damper＂ system, is studied. It is demonstrated that the efficiency of such a device reflected by its amplification factor is not merely a function of its geometric configuration, but is highly dependent on the support elements＇ stiffness as well, similar to the mechanism of a leverage arm. Accordingly, a mathematical model in terms of complex modulus of the viscous damper with consideration of the support brace＇s stiffness is established. The results indicate that the efficiency of the motion amplification device with viscous dampers significantly depends on the stiffness of the support elements. Other parameters, such as toggle brace configuration and damping values of the viscous damper, are studied and compared. As an application example, numerical analyses are conducted to study the dynamic performance of a 39-story office tower installed with toggle brace dampers constructed on soft soil in a reclaimed area, under a combined effect of the vortex shedding of an adjacent existing 52-story building and earthquakes. The results show that viscous dampers with a motion amplification system using a properly designed toggle brace device proved to be an effective solution to alleviate the external excitations.

Deep learning has been recently studied to generate high-quality prediction intervals(PIs)for uncertainty quantification in regression tasks,including recent applications in simulation *** high-quality criterion requires PIs to be as narrow as possible,whilst maintaining a pre-specified level of data(marginal)***,most existing works for high-quality PIs lack accurate information on conditional coverage,which may cause unreliable predictions if it is significantly smaller than the marginal *** address this problem,we propose an end-to-end framework which could output high-quality PIs and simultaneously provide their conditional coverage *** doing so,we design a new loss function that is both easy-to-implement and theoretically justified via an exponential concentration *** evaluation on real-world benchmark datasets and synthetic examples shows that our approach not only achieves competitive results on high-quality PIs in terms of average PI width,but also accurately estimates conditional coverage information that is useful in assessing model uncertainty.

It is a significant and challenging task to detect the informative features to carry out explainable analysis for high dimensional data,especially for those with very small number of *** selection especially the unsupervised ones are the right way to deal with this challenge and realize the ***,two unsupervised spectral feature selection algorithms are proposed in this *** group features using advanced Self-Tuning spectral clustering algorithm based on local standard deviation,so as to detect the global optimal feature clusters as far as *** two feature ranking techniques,including cosine-similarity-based feature ranking and entropy-based feature ranking,are proposed,so that the representative feature of each cluster can be detected to comprise the feature subset on which the explainable classification system will be *** effectiveness of the proposed algorithms is tested on high dimensional benchmark omics datasets and compared to peer methods,and the statistical test are conducted to determine whether or not the proposed spectral feature selection algorithms are significantly different from those of the peer *** extensive experiments demonstrate the proposed unsupervised spectral feature selection algorithms outperform the peer ones in comparison,especially the one based on cosine similarity feature ranking *** statistical test results show that the entropy feature ranking based spectral feature selection algorithm performs *** detected features demonstrate strong discriminative capabilities in downstream classifiers for omics data,such that the AI system built on them would be reliable and *** is especially significant in building transparent and trustworthy medical diagnostic systems from an interpretable AI perspective.

Random vibration control is aimed at reproducing the power spectral density （PSD） at specified control points. The classical frequency-spectrum equalization algorithm needs to compute the average of the multiple frequency response functions （FRFs）, which lengthens the control loop time in the equalization process. Likewise, the feedback control algorithm has a very slow convergence rate due to the small value of the feedback gain parameter to ensure stability of the system. To overcome these limitations, an adaptive inverse control of random vibrations based on the filtered-X least mean-square （LMS） algorithm is proposed. Furthermore, according to the description and iteration characteristics of random vibration tests in the frequency domain, the frequency domain LMS algorithm is adopted to refine the inverse characteristics of the FRF instead of the traditional time domain LMS algorithm. This inverse characteristic, which is called the impedance function of the system under control, is used to update the drive PSD directly. The test results indicated that in addition to successfully avoiding the instability problem that occurs during the iteration process, the adaptive control strategy minimizes the amount of time needed to obtain a short control loop and achieve equalization.

Seeds,the reproductive organs of plants,are common as trace evidence from crime *** evidence could be grouped into several categories based on the types of crimes they are associated with,including child abuse,homicides and *** commonly,seeds are examined microscopically and identified to the plant species level to show a linkage between persons and *** recently,forensic researchers have evaluated the poten-tial for extracting and typing DNA from seeds to further individualize the *** a model system,tomato seeds were examined microscopically after different cooking treat-ments and assessed for the potential to DNA type seeds for variety identification.A sufficient quantity and quality of DNA were recovered from uncooked,digested and undigested tomato seeds for amplified fragment length polymorphism(AFLP)analysis;however,any form of cooking destroyed the seed DNA.A simple microscopic analysis was able to distin-guish between a cooked tomato seed versus an uncooked *** article is intended to provide an overview of case examples and current techniques for the forensic examination of seeds as plant-derived evidence.

The success of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism is heavily attributed to the expansive range and multitude of genetic and molecular tools available to modify gene expression at will. The GaI4/UAS binary system is one of the most important and widely used genetic tools in Drosophila designed for targeted gene expression （Brand and Perrimon, 1993）, which allows ectopic expression of any gene （or transgene） in specific tissues, independent of their native regulators. However, a drawback of the original UASt-transgene is its silence in germline cells--when the UASt-RFPhis transgene was driven by a ubiquitously expressed 6al4 under the ActinSC promoter （act-Gal4）, RFP expression was only detected in the somatic follicle cells, but not in the germline nurse cells or the oocyte （Fig. 1A）.
