complexed amino acid minerals vs. bis-glycinate chelated minerals:Impact on the performance of old laying hens

The present study was to evaluate the effect of trace minerals(Zn, Mn, and cu) from complexed amino acid minerals(ZMcAA) and bis-glycinate chelated minerals(ZMcGly) in laying hen diets on performance,internal and external egg quality, yolk mineral deposition, intestinal morphometry, and bone characteristics. From 78 to 98 weeks of age, 400 White LSL-Lite strain laying hens were distributed in a randomized design with 4 treatments with 10 replicates per treatment. Treatments were distributed in a 2 ×2 factorial arrangement using either Zn, Mn, and cu of ZMcAA or ZMcGly source at 2 levels: low(20, 20,and 3.5 mg/kg of Zn, Mn, and cu, respectively) or high(40, 40, and 7 mg/kg of Zn, Mn, and cu,respectively). The analysis of variance was performed, and in cases where differences were observed, the means were compared using Tukey?s test(P ce and level of trace mineral supplementation had a significant impact on the performance of laying hens. Hens fed ZMcAA had higher egg production(P = 0.01), egg weight(P = 0.02), egg mass(P = 0.01), and lower feed conversion ratio(P =0.05) compared to those fed ZMcGly. The ZMcAA supplementation showed higher albumen height(P =0.01), albumen weight(P = 0.01), and eggshell thickness(P cu(P yolk was greater for hens received ZMcAA. Tibia weight(P = 0.04)and bone densitometry(P cAA supplementation. In the small intestine, ZMcAA resulted in longer villi(P = 0.02) and shorter crypt depth(P = 0.01) in the *** and ileum measurements were influenced by the level and source of trace minerals(P ying hens fed ZMcAA exhibited superior performance, egg quality, deposition of trace minerals in the egg yolk, and bone density compared to hens fed ZMcGly. In this study, older laying hens supplemented with ZMcAA at lower levels demonstrated adequate levels of supplementation.

Green tea polyphenols inhibit testosterone production in rat Leydig cells

This study investigated the acute effects of green tea extract （GTE） and its polyphenol constituents, （-）-epigallocatechin-3-gallate （EGcG） and （-）-epicatechin （Ec）, on basal and stimulated testosterone production by rat Leydig cells in vitro. Leydig cells purified in a Percoll gradient were incubated for 3 h with GTE, EGcG or Ec and the testosterone precursor androstenedione, in the presence or absence of either protein kinase A （PKA） or protein kinase c （PKc） activators. The reversibility of the effect was studied by pretreating cells for 15 min with GTE or EGcG, allowing them to recover for 1 h and challenging them for 2 h with human chorionic gonadotropin （hcG）, luteinizing hormone releasing hormone （LHRH）, 22（R）-hydroxycholesterol or androstenedione. GTE and EGcG, but not Ec, inhibited both basal and kinase-stimulated testosterone production. Under the pretreatment conditions, the inhibitory effect of the higher concentration of GTE/EGcG on hcG/LHRH-stimulated or 22（R）- hydroxycholesterol-induced testosterone production was maintained, whereas androstenedione-supported testosterone production returned to control levels. At the lower concentration of GTE/EGcG, the inhibitory effect of these polyphenols on 22（R）-hydroxycholesterol-supported testosterone production was reversed. The inhibitory effects of GTE may be explained by the action of its principal component, EGcG, and the presence of a gallate group in its structure seems important for its high efficacy in inhibiting testosterone production. The mechanisms underlying the effects of GTE and EGcG involve the inhibition of the PKA/PKc signalling pathways, as well as the inhibition of P450 side-chain cleavage enzyme and 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase function.

Trichomonas vaginalis, a protist parasite of the urogenital tract in humans, is the causative agent of trichomonosis, which in recent years have been associated with the cervical cancer development. In the present study we analyzed the modifications at the junctional complex level of caco-2 cells after interaction with two isolates of T. vaginalis and the influence of the iron concentration present in the parasite’s culture medium on the interaction effects. Our results show that T. vaginalis adheres to the epithelial cell causing alterations in the junctional complex, such as: (a) a decrease in transepithelial electrical resistance; (b) alteration in the pattern of junctional complex proteins distribution as observed for E-cadherin, occludin and ZO-1; and (c) enlargement of the spaces between epithelial cells. These effects were dependent on (a) the degree of the parasite virulence isolate, (b) the iron concentration in the culture medium, and (c) the expression of adhesin proteins on the parasite surface.

Expression Variability of carbohydrates at the cell Wall Surface of Aspergillus Species and in Vitro Susceptibility to Amphotericin B, Voriconazole and Itraconazole

This study evaluated the expression of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine, L-fucose, D-galactose and glucose/mannose on the cell wall surface of Aspergillus species using lectins and the in vitro antifungal activity of AMB (amphotericin B), VOR (voriconazole) and ITc (itraconazole). con A (concanavalin A), WGA (wheat germ agglutinin), UEA-I (Ulex europeus agglutinin I) and PNA (peanut agglutinin), all conjugated with horseradish peroxidase, were used. For the susceptibility tests, sterilized flat-bottomed 96-well microtitre plates were used and the procedures were followed of the clinical and Laboratory Standard Institute. The inoculum was added to the wells with the tested drugs and the plates were incubated at 25 °c for 48 h before reading the results to determine the MIc (minimal inhibitory concentration) of AMB, VOR and ITc. All Aspergillus strains showed low MIc for AMB (0.031-1 μg/mL) and ITc (0.031-0.25 μg/mL). However, the isolates were less susceptible to VOR, for which the MIc ranged from 4 to 16 μg/mL. The results of this study indicate that the expression of N-acetyl-D-glucosamine and glucose/mannose on the cell wall surface of the Aspergillus species evaluated showed greater stability of expression in the fungal growth both in vitro and in parasitism.

clinical criteria for Airway Assessment: correlations with Laryngoscopy and Endotracheal Intubation conditions

Difficult intubation, inadequate ventilation and esophageal intubation are the principal causes of death or brain damage related to airway manipulation. The objective of this cross-sectional study was to correlate a preanesthetic evaluation that may be capable of predicting a difficult intubation with the conditions encountered at laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation. Eighty-one patients submitted to general anesthesia were evaluated at a preanesthetic consultation according to the modified Mallampati classification, the Wilson score and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) difficult airway algorithm. Findings were then correlated with the cormack-Lehane classification and with the number of attempts at endotracheal intubation. No statistically significant correlations were found between the patients’ Mallampati classification and their cormack-Lehane grade or between the Mallampati classification and the number of attempts required to achieve endotracheal intubation. Laryngoscopy proved difficult in four patients and in all of these cases the Wilson score had been indicative of a possibly difficult airway, highlighting its good predicting sensitivity. However, the specificity of this test was low, since another 24 patients had the same Wilson score but were classified as cormack-Lehane I/II. Moreover, two patients who had a Wilson score ≥ 4 were also classified as cormack-Lehane grade I/II. The study concluded that the Wilson score, although seldom used in clinical practice, is a highly sensitive predictor of a difficult airway;its specificity, however, is low.

Background:Hepatitis E virus(HEV)is a member of the Hepeviridae family;it has four main genotypes and one *** genotypes 1 and 2 cause epidemic hepatitis and are transmitted via water and the fecal-oral route,genotypes 3 and 4 are zoonotic In the various seroprevalence studies of hepatitis E in Brazil,the numbers reported vary widely and are difficult to *** aim of this study was to analyze existing seroprevalence studies of hepatitis E in adults in *** text:We searched the PubMed,Latin American and caribbean Health Sciences and Embase databases for studies published from inception to May 12,2018 concerning infection by HEV in Brazil without time period or language *** included studies that presented data concerning hepatitis E seroprevalence in adults in Brazil,had a sample size>50 patients and whose method used for the detection of anti-HEV was standardized and *** also evaluated the quality of the articles using a list of criteria that totalized 9 *** the 20 studies ultimately analyzed,10(50%)were from the southeast region of Brazil,3(15%)were from the central-west region,3(15%)were from the northern region,2(10%)were from the northeast region and 2(10%)were from the southern *** the quality evaluation of the studies,the mean score was 5.6(range:4-8).The estimated overall seroprevalence of HEV infection in the adult population was 6.0%(95%cI:5.0-7.0);in subgroup analyses,we observed that the prevalence of anti-HEV antibodies in blood donors was 7.0%(95%cI:5.0-8.0),whereas in the general population,it was 3.0%(95%cI:2.0-4.0).conclusions:The results of this systematic review indicate that there should be national investment in the prevention of hepatitis E virus infection in Brazil,including the implementation of improvements in basic sanitation and guidance regarding the appropriate handling of animal waste and the optimal cooking of vegetables,meat and their derivatives.
