Contagious bovine Pleuropneumonia (CBPP) is an infectious and highly contagious respiratory disease of cattle and water buffalo, caused by the Mycoplasma mycoides subspecies mycoides. It induces significant economic losses and leads to a severe livestock production problem, negatively influencing people’s livelihoods of affected countries. In Somalia, there is no updated data on the prevalence and distribution of the disease. Hence, a descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2022 to June 2023 in different villages under the Afgoye District of lower Shabelle region, Somalia. The main purpose of this study is to assess the sero-prevalence and identify the associated risk factors for the occurrence of the disease. In this study, villages, age, sex, breed, and body condition were considered as risk factors. A total of 90 blood samples were collected and tested in the laboratory using the Anti-CBPP Elisa kit test. Out of 90 serum samples from herd cattle, 32 were positive, resulting in an overall prevalence of 35.5%. In addition, we found a statistically significant variation between the prevalence of the disease and factors such as sex, age, body condition and breeds. In summary, the overall prevalence of Contagious bovine pleuropneumonia in this study area is worth to be considered because there is a low quality of health care and less awareness of the Contagious bovine Pleuropneumonia effects on herds, which warrants the official authorities to act and follow appropriate preventive and control measures to reduce the incidence of the disease and generate appropriate controlling and prevention measures in all regions of Somalia.

Small Cell Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Vulva: Case Report and Literature Review

Background: Neuroendocrine neoplasms are those that develop from a neuroendocrine cell. They most commonly affect the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, and pancreas, being rare conditions in the female genital tract. When present, these neoplasms often manifest with nonspecific signs and symptoms such as pain, itching, swelling, single-focus lesions, bleeding, and enlargement of inguinal lymph nodes, in addition to the presence of progressively enlarging vulvar nodules. Consequently, the diagnostic investigation involves histopathological examination and confirmation through immunohistochemistry. Objective: To present a comprehensive understanding of this rarely studied pathology. The primary objective is to provide valuable insights that could aid in the future development of universally applicable treatment guidelines. Case Presentation: A 57-year-old female, with no prior comorbidities, menopause at 36, who presented with a left vulvar nodule accompanied by intense pain and swelling, later diagnosed with small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma in the vulva. Conclusion: This case report highlights the importance of enhancing our knowledge regarding small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma in the vulva, given its scarcity in medical literature. The information presented here underscores the need for standardized diagnostic and treatment approaches, paving the way for future consensus on managing this uncommon but challenging neoplasm.

Evaluation of reusing alum sludge for the coagulation of industrial wastewater containing mixed anionic surfactants

A coagulation-flocculation process is typically employed to treat the industrial wastewater generated by the consumer products industry manufacturing detergents, soaps, and others. The expenditure of chemicals including coagulants and chemicals for pH adjustment is costly for treating this wastewater. The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of reusing the aluminum sulfate (alum) sludge as a coagulant or as a coagulation aid so that the fresh alum dosage can be minimized or the removal efficiency can be enhanced. The experiments were conducted in a jar-test apparatus simulating the coagulation-flocculation process for simultaneous removals of organic matters, anionic surfactants, suspended solids, and turbidity. At the optimum initial pH value of 10 and the fresh alum concentration of 400 mg/L, the total suspended solids (TSS), total chemical oxygen demand (TCOD), total anionic surfactants, and turbidity removal efficiencies were 71.5%, 76.4%, 95.4%, and 98.2%, respectively. The addition of alum sludge as a coagulant alone without any fresh alum addition could significantly remove the turbidity, TCOD, and anionic surfactants. The TSS was left in the supernatants after the settling period, but would subsequently be removed by adding the fresh alum. The TSS, TCOD, and turbidity removal efficiencies were also enhanced when both the alum sludge and the fresh alum were employed. The TCOD removal efficiency over 80% has been accomplished, which has never fulfilled by using the fresh alum alone. It is concluded that the alum sludge could be reused for the treatment of industrial wastewater generated by the consumer products industry.

Synthesis and characterization of monosize magnetic poly(glycidyl methacrylate) beads

Monosize, 1.6 μm, magnetic beads of poly（glycidyl methacrylate） [M-poly（GMA）], were prepared by dispersion polymerization in the presence of Fe3O4 nano-powder. Monosize M-poly（GMA） beads were characterized by swelling tests, density measurements, electron spin resonance （ESR）, vibrating sample magnetometer （VSM） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. The characteristic functional groups of M-poly（GMA） beads were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer （FTIR）. The M-poly（GMA） beads are highly uniform in size and have a spherical shape and non-porous structure. Polydispersity index （PDI） of M-poly（GMA） beads was calculated to be around 1.008. The hydrated density of the M-poly（GMA） beads measured at 25 ℃ was 1.14 g/cm^3. The content of oxirane groups on the surface of the M-poly（GMA） sample was found to be 3.46 mmol/g by using perchloric acid titration. The specific surface area of the M-poly（GMA） beads was determined to be 3.2 m^2/g. The equilibrium swelling ratio was 52%. The volume fraction of magnetite nanopowder in the M-poly（GMA） beads was found to be 4.5%. The g factor, that can be considered as a quantity characteristic of the molecules in which the unpaired electrons are located, was found to be 2.28 for M-poly（GMA）. The external magnetic field at resonance was calculated to be 2055 Gs which was found sufficient to excite all of the dipole moments present in 1.0 g of M-poly（GMA） sample.

Dielectric properties,electrical modulus and current transport mechanisms of Au/ZnO/n-Si structures

Au/Zn O/n-Si（MIS）structures were fabricated by using the RF sputtering method and their complex dielectric constant（ε*=ε’-jε’’）,electric modulus（M*=M′+j M’’）and electrical conductivity(σ=σdc+σac)values were investigated as a function of frequency（0.7 k Hz-1 MHz）and voltage(-6–（+6 V）)by capacitance-voltage（C-V）and conductance-voltage（G/ω-V）measurements to get more information on the conduction mechanisms and formation of barrier height between Au and *** lnσ-Lnf plots have two different regions corresponding to low-intermediate and high *** behavior of lnσ-lnf plots shows that the existence of two different conduction mechanisms（CMs）at low-intermediate and high ***,the reverse bias saturation current（I_o）,ideality factor（n）,barrier height(ΦBo)were determined from the forward bias I-V data and they were found as a strong function of *** value of n especially at low temperature is considerably higher than *** values ofΦB0and standard deviation（σs）were found from the intercept and slope ofΦBo-q/2k T plots as 0.551 e V and 0.075 V for the region I（80–220 K）and 1.126 e V and 0.053 V for the region II（220–400 K）,*** values ofΦBoand effective Richardson constant（A*）were found from slope and intercept of activation energy plots as 0.564 e V and 101.084 Acm-2K-2for the region I and 1.136 e V and41.87 Acm-2K-2for the region II,*** results confirm that the current-voltage-temperature（I-V-T）characteristics of the fabricated Au/Zn O/n-Si SBDs can satisfactorily be explained on the basis of TE theory with double GD of the BHs.

Assessment of colistin resistance in Gram negative bacteria from clinical samples in resource-limited settings

Objective:To find a proper method to assess colistin resistance in multidrug resistant Gram negative bacteria(MDR-GNB)on a routine basis in resource limited ***:Clinical samples were ***-GNB were identified and were examined for colistin resistance by colistin broth elution method,colistin agar method,and colistin disk elution screening *** microdilution method was used the gold ***:A total of 10235 clinical samples were processed,in which 857(8.4%)MDR-GNB were *** very significant errors,categorical agreement,major errors,positive predictive values,negative predictive values,specificity and sensitivity of all the phenotypic methods were 5.5%,0%,94.4%,100%,99.6%,100%and 94.4%,respectively for the detection of colistin *** colistin elution screening method was cheap and easy to perform with similar results to broth microdilution ***:All the evaluation methods for colistin resistance showed similar *** the laboratories can choose any method for detection of colistin ***,we recommend colistin disk elution screening method because,it is easy and cheap and can be performed in limited resources.

Electrical and dielectric properties of Al/p-Si and Al/perylene/p-Si type diodes in a wide frequency range

The perylene （C20H12） layer effect on the electrical and dielectric properties of Al/p-Si （MS） and Al/perylene/p-Si （MPS） diodes have been investigated and compared in the frequency range of 0.7 kHz-2 MHz. Experimental results show that C-V characteristics give an anomalous peak for two structures at low frequencies due to interface states （Nss） and series resistance （Rs）. The increases in C and G/o3 at low frequencies confirm that the charges at interface can easily follow an ac signal and yield excess capacitance and conductance. The frequency-dependent dielectric constant （er） and dielectric loss （e＇） are subtracted using C and G/co data at 1.5 V. The eI and e＂ values are found to be strongly dependent on frequency and voltage, and their large values at low frequencies can be attributed to the excess polarization coming from charges at traps. Plots of ln（o＇ac）-ln（w） for two structures have two linear regions, with slopes of 0.369 and 1.166 for MS, and of 0.077 and 1.061 for MPS, respectively. From the C 2-V characteristics, the doping acceptor atom concentration （NA） and barrier height （,~） for Schottky barrier diodes （SBDs） 1.303 ~ 1015 cm-3, and 1.10 and I. 13 eV, respectively. of MS and MPS types are also obtained to be 1.484 ~ 1015

Improved guided bone regeneration by combined application of unmodified, fresh autologous adipose derived regenerative cells and plasma rich in growth factors:A first-in-human case report and literature review

BACKGROUND Novel strategies are needed for improving guided bone regeneration(GBR) in oral surgery prior to implant placement, particularly in maxillary sinus augmentation(GBR-MSA) and in lateral alveolar ridge augmentation(LRA). This study tested the hypothesis that the combination of freshly isolated, unmodified autologous adipose-derived regenerative cells(UA-ADRCs), fraction 2 of plasma rich in growth factors(PRGF-2) and an osteoinductive scaffold(OIS)(UAADRC/PRGF-2/OIS) is superior to the combination of PRGF-2 and the same OIS alone(PRGF-2/OIS) in GBR-MSA/*** SUMMARY A 79-year-old patient was treated with a bilateral external sinus lift procedure as well as a bilateral lateral alveolar ridge augmentation. GBR-MSA/LRA was performed with UA-ADRC/PRGF-2/OIS on the right side, and with PRGF-2/OIS on the left side. Biopsies were collected at 6 wk and 34 wk after GBRMSA/LRA. At the latter time point implants were placed. Radiographs(32 mo follow-up time) demonstrated excellent bone healing. No radiological or histological signs of inflammation were observed. Detailed histologic,histomorphometric, and immunohistochemical analysis of the biopsies evidenced that UA-ADRC/PRGF-2/OIS resulted in better and faster bone regeneration than PRGF-2/*** GBR-MSA with UA-ADRCs, PRGF-2, and an OIS shows effectiveness without adverse effects.

BACKGROUND Current clinical treatment options for symptomatic,partial-thickness rotator cuff tear(sPTRCT)offer only limited potential for true tissue healing and improvement of clinical *** animal models,injections of adult stem cells isolated from adipose tissue into tendon injuries evidenced histological regeneration of tendon ***,it is unclear whether such beneficial effects could also be observed in a human tendon treated with fresh,uncultured,autologous,adipose derived regenerative cells(UA-ADRCs).A specific challenge in this regard is that UA-ADRCs cannot be labeled and,thus,not unequivocally identified in the host ***,histological regeneration of injured human tendons after injection of UA-ADRCs must be assessed using comprehensive,immunohistochemical and microscopic analysis of biopsies taken from the treated tendon a few weeks after injection of *** SUMMARY A 66-year-old patient suffered from sPTRCT affecting the right supraspinatus and infraspinatus tendon,caused by a bicycle *** day 18 post injury[day 16 post magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)examination]approximately 100 g of abdominal adipose tissue was harvested by liposuction,from which approximately 75×10^(6) UA-ADRCs were isolated within 2 ***,UA-ADRCs were injected(controlled by biplanar X-ray imaging)adjacent to the injured supraspinatus tendon immediately after *** fast clinical recovery,a follow-up MRI examination 2.5 mo post treatment indicated the need for open revision of the injured infraspinatus tendon,which had not been treated with *** this operation,a biopsy was taken from the supraspinatus tendon at the position of the injury.A comprehensive,immunohistochemical and microscopic analysis of the biopsy(comprising 13 antibodies)was indicative of newly formed tendon *** Injection of UA-ADRCs can result in regeneration of injured human tendons by formation of new tendon tissue.

Thioether Functional Chain Extender for Thermoplastic Polyurethanes

In this study, a novel three functional chain extender （TATATRIOL） was synthesized from the reaction of 1,3,5- tri（prop-2-en-1-yl）-1,3,5-triazinane-2,4,6-trione （TATA） with 2-sulfanylethanol. Then new thermoplastic polyurethanes （TPUs） were synthesized by a one-step bulk polymerization from the reaction of 1,1＇-methanediylbis（4- isocyanatocyclohexane）（H12MDI）, a poly（ethylene adipate） based polyester polyol and a chain extender. Butane-l,4-diol （BD） and the newly synthesized monomer, TATATRIOL, were used as chain extenders. The effects of TATATRIOL on the properties of the TPU were investigated and compared to those of the TPU prepared with BD. The TPUs which derived from the sulfur containing chain extender displayed lower modulus and high elongation at break values than the analogous TPUs derived from BD. Moreover sulfur containing TPUs exhibited higher thermal stability.
