Changes in Surface Energy Partitioning in china over the Past Three Decades

Surface energy balance and the partitioning of sensible heat flux(SHF) and latent heat flux(LHF) play key roles in land–atmosphere feedback. However,the lack of long-term observations of surface energy fluxes,not to mention spatially extensive ones,limits our understanding of how the surface energy distribution has responded to a warming climate over recent decades(1979–2009) at the national scale in china. Using four state-of-the-art reanalysis products with long-term surface energy outputs,we identified robust changes in surface energy partitioning,defined by the Bowen ratio(BR = SHF/LHF),over different climate regimes in china. Over the past three decades,the net radiation showed an increasing trend over almost the whole of china. The increase in available radiative energy flux,however,was balanced by differential partitioning of surface turbulent fluxes,determined by local hydrological conditions. In semi-arid areas,such as Northeast china,the radiative energy was transferred largely into SHF. A severe deficiency in near-surface and soil moistures led to a significant decreasing trend in LHF. The combined effect of increased SHF and decreased LHF resulted in significant upward trends in the BR and surface warming over Northeast china. In contrast,in the wet monsoon regions,such as southern china,increased downward net radiation favored a rise in LHF rather than in SHF,leading to a significant decreasing trend in the BR. Meanwhile,the increased LHF partly cancelled out the surface warming. The warming trend in southern china was smaller than that in Northeast china. In addition to impacts on heat-related events,the changes in the BR also reflected recent cases of extreme drought in china. Our results indicate that information regarding the BR may be valuable for drought monitoring,especially in regions prone to such conditions.

Clinical significance of skin rash in dengue fever:A focus on discomfort,complications,and disease outcome

Objective:To assess whether the cutaneous features in patients with dengue fever are associated with abnormal blood biochemistry,complications,and poor disease ***:Forty five patients with dengue fever were identified at a medical center in Kaohsiung,Taiwan,from September to November *** cases were exclusively caused by type 1 dengue *** were classified into two groups,based on the presence or absence of skin rash,and their rash was subclassified into maculopapular,morbilliform,and petechial *** symptoms,laboratory data,disease outcome,and complications were compared between the two ***:Thirty two patients with dengue fever developed skin rash(SP group,n=32) while the rest of 13 did not(SN group,n=13).The patient numbers in the maculopapular,morbilliform,and petechial group were 4,21,and 7,*** SP group was younger(P=0.001),experienced more pruritus(P=0.008) and more swollen palms/soles(P=0.015) than the SN ***,the SN group had greater genital mucosa involvement(P=0.008),higher platelet transfusion rate(P=0.003),and lower hemoglobin and hematocrit levels(P=0.030) than the SP *** with morbilliform lesions had a higher incidence of palm/sole swelling,less genital mucosal involvement,and a lower platelet transfusion rate than did patients with maculopapular or petechial ***:Cutaneous manifestations provide an important clue to dengue *** patients with dengue fever,those with skin rash tend to have itching and swelling of the palms/soles,however,those without skin rash tend to have more complications and poor disease outcomes.

CsI-bowl:an ancillary detector for exit channel selection inγ-ray spectroscopy experiments

A particle detector array designed for light-charged particles, known as the CsI-bowl, was built for exit channel selection for in-beam γ-ray spectroscopy experiments. This device is composed of 64 CsI(Tl) detectors, organized in a structure reminiscent of a tea-bowl. High quantum efficiency photodiodes, characterized by their minimal mass, were employed to collect scintillation light. Its design, construction, particle identification resolution, and its effectiveness in relation to exit channel selection are described in this paper. In source tests, the optimal figure of merit for the identification of α-particles and γ-rays using the charge comparison method was found to be 3.3 and 12.1 for CsI detectors coupled to photodiodes and avalanche photodiodes, respectively. The CsI-bowl demonstrated effectiveness in identifying particles, specifically the emission of protons and α-particles in the58Ni(19F, xpyn) fusion–evaporation reaction, thereby enabling the selection of the desired exit channels.

Sustainable development is an important component of the Belt and Road Initiative(BRI)and is of great significance for evaluating the levels of sustainable development of countries along this route(henceforth,BRI countries).Therefore,this study aims to identify the factors that influence the levels of sustainable development of BRI countries in a reasonable and objective ***,this study employs the super efficiency slacks-based measure(Super-SBM)model,which considers unexpected outputs to measure the level of sustainable development of BRI *** dynamic change and composition of the sustainable development level of these countries are calculated using the global Malmquist-Luenberger ***,the Tobit model is used to identify the factors influencing the level of sustainable development of BRI countries in general and in various *** empirical results suggest the following points.(a)The overall level of sustainable development of BRI countries is low,whereas those of high-income and middle-and high-income countries are relatively high.(b)The overall sustainable development levels of BRI countries declined to a certain extent in 2008 owing to the effect of the financial crisis,.However,the sustainable development level of other countries,barring low-income countries,has gradually increased since 2011.(c)Since 2008,technological progress has replaced technical efficiency as the main driving force behind the improvement of the sustainable development level of BRI countries.(d)A U-shaped relationship is observed between the economic and sustainable development levels of these countries.(e)The level of science and technology and the proportion of renewable energy consumption can promote the sustainable development of these ***,a negative correlation exists between the level of opening to the outside world and that of sustainable development of countries that mainly export resource-based products and are dominated by

Nonlinearity optimization of dissipative-soliton fiber laser for generation of pulses with 350 kW peak power

We demonstrate a nonlinearity optimization method by altering distribution of passive fibers in a dissipative-soliton mode-locked fiber laser to level up output parameters. In the numerical simulation, we found that the passive fiber segment after gain fiber characterizes the highest average B-integral among fiber segments. By reducing the length of this fiber section and keeping the total passive fiber length as constant, the output pulse energy can be effectively scaled up while maintaining a short dechirped pulse duration, resulting in boosting peak power. With this method, 37-n J pulses are generated from a dissipative-soliton mode-locked cladding pumped ytterbium-doped single-mode fiber laser in the experiment. The pulse can be dechirped to 66 fs with 350 k W peak power. Moreover, the pulse pedestal is suppressed by a vector-dispersion compressor.
