Rational design of ZnCdS/TpPa-1-COF heterostructure photocatalyst by strengthening the interface connection in solar hydrogen production reactions

ZnCdS quantum dots(QDs)are highly coveted in photocatalysis research for their exceptional visible-light responses and high light-absorption ***,their practical application is hindered by their tendency to aggregate,due to having high surface *** address this issue,herein,a heterostructure is synthesized by growing ZnCdS QDs with a size of approximately 5 nm onto the surface of a two-dimensional(2D)covalent organic framework(COF),*** approach suppresses the aggregation of the QDs and improves their *** ZnCdS/TpPa-1-COF composite exhibited a peak hydrogen evolution rate of 6244.16μmol·g^(-1)·h^(-1),which was 2.89 and 4.18 times greater than that of ZnCdS and TpPa-1-COF,*** zero-dimensional/two-dimensional(0D/2D)heterojunction formed by ZnCdS and TpPa-1-COF generates a strong interfacial force,which is attributed to the intimate contact between the *** connections accelerate charge separation,improve the utilisation of reduced electrons,and reduce the extent of agglomeration of the ZnCdS QDs,thereby resulting in high hydrogen production activity of the ***,the photocatalytic mechanism is studied using Kelvin probe force microscopy and theoretical *** study offers a novel approach for creating sulfide photocatalysts and is crucial for investigating the potential practical applications of the related photocatalysts.

A Sequence-Scheduled and Query-Based MAC Protocol for Underwater Acoustic Networks with a Mobile Node

Since mobile nodes such as autonomous underwater vehicles can effectively expand network coverage,underwater acoustic networks with mobile nodes have attracted more and more attention in recent *** ensure the timely access of a mobile node without disturbing the normal transmission of data packets from static nodes,a sequence-scheduled and query-based medium access control protocol is proposed in this *** underwater nodes with data packets to be transmitted reply with a control packet for channel reservation after receiving the broadcast control packet of the buoy,then the reserved nodes transmit their data packets as the order calculated by the *** develop a mechanism to adjust the transmission order of the control packets sent by the underwater nodes in the handshake phase to reduce the collision and guarantee the success rate of reservation,and a query is initiated when the reserved control packet of the mobile node is not received by the buoy in the handshake to respond to the data transmission request of the mobile node in *** show that the maximum nodal throughput of the proposed MAC protocol increases by at least 20%and the access delay of the mobile node decreases by about 90%,compared to the two reference ***,the average access probability of the mobile node in the proposed protocol is more than 90%.

A Stiffness Adjustment Mechanism Based on Negative Work for High-efficient Propulsion of Robotic Fish

The applications of robotic fish require high propulsive efficiency mechanism to prolong the mission time. Though many methods were applied, robotic fish still suffers from low efficiency. To improve the efficiency of robotic fish, this paper proposes a variable stiffness mechanism which is based on the negative work. The live fish adjusts its body stiffness to save energy when the muscles do negative work. Inspired by the live fish, a control mechanism based on negative work is proposed to change the stiffness of the robotic fish for higher efficiency. Changing the stiffness of the robotic fish is to change the joint-stiffness. A fuzzy controller is introduced to mimic the variable stiffness mechanism of the fish and depicts the relationship between the stiffness and the negative work. To evaluate the performance of this controller, a two-joint robotic fish model is established based on its kinematic model and hydrodynamic model. The evaluation results show that the robotic fish reduces the energy consumption and improves the propulsion efficiency when introducing the variable stiffness mechanism. Different environments with the control mechanism impact differently on propulsive efficiency. This mechanism may provide a high efficient propulsion control method for the robotic fish.

Dear Editor,Aerobic exercise is well known to improve cognitive functions including hippocampus-dependent spatial memory[1]and object recognition[2].Regarding the molecular mechanisms,the indispensable role of brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)in governing exercise-induced neural plasticity has been demonstrated for the improvement of learning and memory[3].Our recent study further demonstrated the activation of mechanistic target of rapamycin pathways downstream of BDNF to drive synaptic protein synthesis upon persistent exercise[4],but leaving the effect of exercise on the post-translational modification of proteins largely unknown.

Novel Cathelicidins with Potent Antimicrobial,Biofilm Inhibitory,and Anti-inflammatory Activities from the Frog Fejervarya multistriata

A Hybrid Silicon-PDMS Micropump Actuated by PZT Bimorph

The fabrication and characterization of a hybrid Silicon-PDMS micropump based on MEMS technology is presented. The micropump consists of one chamber,two passive valves and one PDMS diaphragm.A PZT bimorph working as the actuator is mounted on the PDMS *** use of the PDMS diaphragm and the PZT bimorph can give rise to large displacements of the pump diaphragm,making the micropump more efficient and easier to be *** flow rate of the micropump is a function to the voltage and frequency of the applied square *** a square wave of 100V is applied,a maximum flow rate of 317μL/min and a back-pressure of 2 kPa are achieved at 20 Hz.

Towards enriching and isolation of uncultivated archaea from marine sediments using a refined combination of conventional microbial cultivation methods

The archaea that can be readily cultivated in the laboratory are only a small fraction of the total diversity that exists in *** molecular ecology methods,such as metagenomic sequencing,can provide valuable information independent of cell cultivation,it is only through cultivation-based experiments that they may be fully characterized,both for their physiological and ecological ***,we report our efforts towards enriching and isolation of uncultivated archaea from marine sediments using a refined combination of conventional microbial cultivation ***,cells were retrieved from the sediment samples through a cell extraction procedure and the sediment-free mixed cells were then divided into different size-range fractions by successive filtration through 0.8µm,0.6µm and 0.2µm *** 16S rRNA gene analyses indicated noticeable retention of different archaeal groups in different *** each fraction,supplementation with a variety of defined substrates(e.g.,methane,sulfate,and lignin)and stepwise dilutions led to highly active enrichment cultures of several archaeal groups with Bathyarchaeota most prominently ***,using a roll-bottle technique,three co-cultures consisting of Bathyarchaeota(subgroup-8)and a bacterial species affiliated with either Pseudomonas or Glutamicibacter were *** results demonstrate that a combination of cell extraction,size fractionation,and roll-bottle isolation methods could be a useful protocol for the successful enrichment and isolation of numerous slow-growing archaeal groups from marine sediments.

Transient Optical Characteristics of Broad Absorption Band Excitons Modulated by Micro-cavity

The understanding of light-matter interaction within micro-cavity lays the basic groundwork for many future photon-related technologies and applications. We prepared low quality metal-insulator-metal（MIM） micro-cavity consisting massive two-level broad absorption band dye（Nile Red） excitons, which randomly dispersed in SU-8 polymer negative resist matrix and measured their optical characteristics. New binate transmission peaks with large energy separation（so-called Rabi-splitting phenomenon） and their angular anti-crossing behavior in con- sequence of the interaction between dye excitons and confined photons were observed. It was also confirmed that the separated energy can be tuned by changing the doped exciton concentrations. Time-resolved transient absorption measurements showed that such an interaction is indeed a coherent one but rather a strong coupling one and one can modulate such a coherent mechanism by easily adjusting the detuinng between dye excitons and confined cavity photons. This work may provide a comprehensive and deep understanding for such massive broad absoprtion band excitons-doped MIM micro-cavities and represent a further step to realize optical cavity-modulated devices in future.
