Influence of initial microstructure and grain size on transformation of bainite to austenite in large size forgings

Th. kinetics of austenite formation in th. surface and center regions of a 40 t forged ingot of a h.gh.strength.medium- carbon low-alloy steel was studied using h.gh.resolution dilatometry. Th. starting microstructures from th. surface or center regions h.d different proportions of bainite and residual austenite as well as different prior austenite grain sizes. Two h.ating rates representing th. actual h.ating rates in th. surface （5℃ s -1） and center regions （0.5℃ s -1） of large size forged blocks were utilized. Dilatometric curves revealed only one transformation step of austenite formation at both.h.ating rates independent of grain size or proportion of ph.ses. Optical microscopy, field emission gun scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction were used to study microstructure evolution and confirm th. results obtained by dilatometry. Th. kinetic parameters for austenite formation were determined from th. dilatometry data by Joh.son-Meh.- Avrami-Kolmogorov （JMAK） equation. Th. JMAK coefficients were determined for each.condition of th. investigated steels. Th. calculations indicated th.t th. nucleation and growth.of austenite in th. surface region were accelerated more th.n 10,000 times due to a significantly smaller average prior austenite grain size, stability of initial retained austenite, and accumulation of coarse carbides at th. surface. Th. results were discussed in th. framework of classical nucleation and growth.th.ories using th. kinetic parameters for austenite formation.

Th. structural, elastic, and electronic properties of th. very recently discovered ternary silicide superconductor, Li2IrSi3, are calculated using an ab-initio tech.ique. We adopt th. plane-wave pseudopotential approach.with.n th. frame- work of th. first-principles density functional th.ory （DFT） implemented by th. CASTEP code. Th. calculated structural parameters sh.w reasonable agreement with.th. experimental results. Th. elastic moduli of th.s interesting material are calculated for th. first time. Th. electronic band structure and electronic energy density of states indicate th. strong cova- lent Ir-Si and Si-Si bonding, wh.ch.leads to th. formation of th. rigid structure of Li2IrSi3. Strong covalency gives rise to a h.gh.Debye temperature in th.s system. We discuss th. th.oretical results in detail in th.s paper.

Black liquor is obtained as a by-product of th. pulping process,wh.ch.is used to convert biomass into pulp by removing lignin,h.micelluloses and oth.r extractives from wood to free cellulose *** represents a major constituent in black liquor,with.quantities varying from 20%to 30%,of wh.ch.a very low sh.re is used for manufacturing value-added products,wh.le th. rest is mainly burned for energy purposes,th.s underestimating its great potential as a raw ***,it is essential to establish.new isolation and extraction meth.ds to increase lignin valorization in th. development of bio-based *** aim of th.s research.work was to determine th. effect of KOh.or eth.nol concentration as an isolation agent on lignin yields and th. ch.mical ch.racteristics of lignin isolated from formacell black liquor of oil palm empty fruit bunch.OPEFB).Isolation of lignin was carried out using KOh.with.various concentrations ranging from 5%to 15%(w/v).Eth.nol was also used to precipitate lignin from black liquor at concentrations varying from 5%to 30%(v/v).Th. results obtained sh.wed th.t th. addition of KOh.solution at 12.5%and 15%concentrations resulted in better lignin yield and ch.mical properties of lignin,i.e.,ph.values of 3.86 and 4.27,lignin yield of 12.78%and 14.95%,meth.xyl content of 11.33%and 10.13%,and lignin equivalent weigh.s of 476.25 and 427.03,*** to its ph.nolic structure and rich.functional groups th.t are favorable for modifications,lignin h.s th. potential to be used as a green additive in th. development of advanced biocomposite products in various applications to replace current fossil fuel-based material,ranging from fillers,fire retardants,formaldeh.de scavengers,carbon fibers,aerogels,and wood adh.sives.

In th.s study, two nano-derivatives from nano-Graph.ne oxide (GO) were synth.sized. Regarding to GON and GOS by reaction GO with.2-amino eth.nol and 2-marcapto eth.nol respectively, th. GO, GON, GOS were ch.racterized by FTIR, XRD and FSEM. Evaluation prepared compound to inh.bitors corrosion for Carbon steel in acidic media at (1 - 6 ppm) concentration and different temperature 298, 308, 318, 328 K. Th. electroch.mical tech.ique used Tafel plot to measure th. efficiency of inh.bitor. It was observed th.t th. corrosion rate and ch.rge transfer of th. carbon steel for th. inh.bitor increase with.increase of temperature and decrease with.increase of th. inh.bitor concentration in th. same temperature. Th. GON h.d inh.bition efficiency reach.d 96.96% for th. 6 ppm concentration at 298 K.

Beneficiation of Malaysian iron ore is becoming necessary as iron resources are depleting. h.wever, th. upgrading process is ch.llenging because of th. weak magnetic properties of Malaysian iron ore. In th.s study, bio-ch.r derived from oil palm empty fruit bunch.（EFB） was utilized as an energy source for reduction roasting. Mixtures of Malaysian iron ore and th. bio-ch.r were pressed into briquettes and subjected to reduction roasting processes at 873-1173 K. Th. extent of reduction was estimated on th. basis of mass loss, and th. mag-netization of samples was measured using a vibrating sample magnetometer （VSM）. Wh.n reduced at 873 K, th. original goeth.te-rich.ore was converted into h.matite. An increase in temperature to 1073 K caused a significant conversion of h.matite into magnetite and enh.nced th. magnetic susceptibility and saturation magnetization of samples. Th. magnetic properties diminish.d at 1173 K as th. iron ore was par-tially reduced to wustite. Th.s reduction roasting by using th. bio-ch.r can assist in upgrading th. iron ore by improving its magnetic proper-ties

Th. synth.ses of th.ee mixed ligand ch.late copper（II） complexes of th. type [Cu（L）（acac）（h.O）]BPh. wh.re acac=acetyleacetonate; L=N,N-dimeth.l,N′-benzyleth.ne-1,2-diamine （L1）, N,N-dimeth.l, N′-2-meth.lbenzyleth.ne-1,2-diamine （L2） or N,N-dimeth.l,N′-2-ch.orobenzyleth.ne-1,2-diamine （L3） are reported and ch.racterized by elemental analyses, spectroscopic and molar conductance measurements. Th. X-ray structure of complex 1 sh.ws th.t th. central copper atom is placed in a distorted square pyramidal geometry made by acac and diamine ch.late in th. base and a h.O molecule on th. apex. Th. prepared complexes are fairly soluble in a large number of organic solvents and sh.w positive solvatoch.omism. Calculations of SMLR （stepwise multiple linear regression） meth.d was utilized to find th. best model explaining th. observed solvatoch.omic beh.vior and sh.wed th.t among different solvent parameters, donor number （DN） is a dominant factor responsible for th. sh.ft in th. d-d absorption band of th. complexes to th. lower wavenumber with.increasing its values. Th. importance of substituent effect in diamine ligand on th. spectral and SMLR measurements is also discussed.
