Multiple Redox and Non-Redox Interactions Define 2-Cys Peroxiredoxin as a Regulatory hub in the Chloroplast

In plants, the highly abundant 2-cysteine peroxiredoxin （2-CysPrx） is associated with the chloroplast and involved in protecting photosynthesis. This work addresses the multiple interactions of the 2-CysPrx in the chloroplast, which depend on its redox state. Transcript co-regulation analysis showed a strong linkage to the peptidyl-prolyl-cis/trans isomerase Cyclophilin 20-3 （Cyp20-3） and other components of the photosynthetic apparatus. Co-expression in protoplasts and quantification of fluorescence resonance energy transfer （FRET） efficiency in vivo confirmed protein interactions of 2-CysPrx with Cyp20-3 as well as NADPh-dependent thioredoxin reductase C （NTRC）, while thioredoxin x （Trx-x） did not form complexes that could enable FRET. Likewise, changes in FRET of fluorescently labeled 2-CysPrx in vitro and in vivo proved redox dependent dynamics of 2-CysPrx. Addition of Cyp20-3 to an in vitro peroxidase assay with 2-CysPrx had no significant effect on peroxide reduction. Also, in the presence of NTRC, addition of Cyp20-3 did not further enhance peroxide reduction. In addition, 2-CysPrx functioned as chaperone and inhibited aggregation of citrate synthase during heat treatment. This activity was partly inhibited by Cyp20-3. As a new interaction partner of decameric 2-CysPrx, photosystem Ⅱ could be identified after chloroplast fractionation and in pull-down assays after reconstitution. In summary, the data indicate a dynamic function of plant 2-CysPrx as redox sensor, chaperone, and regulator in the chloroplast with diverse functions beyond its role as thiol peroxidase.

Building integrated photovoltaic（BIPV） components can replace conventional components for the construction of building skins and they can produce renewable electricity during their lifetime. BIPV components can have therefore lower life cycle costs than conventional building components, which do not generate any gain during their lifecycle. The detailed calculation of economical profitability of BIPV is dependent on multiple factors, such as the specific case and the specific basic conditions. however, exemplary calculations indicate that it is possible to compensate the cumulative costs of BIPV components, at least to a significant degree, if the gain of the renewable electricity production during a BIPV component’s lifetime is considered in the life cycle cost calculations. Accordingly, BIPV systems are in general economically more profitable than ground-mounted PV power plants in open areas.

Current improvements in CT technology include fast rotation times, tubes with external cooling and flying focal spots, more detector slices and thinner collimation. These developments yield a higher spatial and temporal resolution, which are prerequisites for state of the art cardiac imaging. The studies performed with the new technology indicate an improved sensitivity, specificity and a high negative predictive value for the assessment of coronary artery disease. Also, the depiction of coronary plaque morphology, myocardial infarctions, scars or masses and a functional evaluation have become clinical routine.

Gastrointestinal bleeding 30 years after a complicated cholecystectomy

Gastrointestinal bleeding from small-bowel varices is a rare and difficult to treat complication of portal hypertension. We describe the case of a 79-year-old female patient with recurrent severe hemorrhage from smallbowel varices 30 years after a complicated cholecystectomy. When double balloon enteroscopy was unsuccessful to reach the site of bleeding, a rendezvous approach was favored with intraoperative endoscopy. Active bleeding from varices within a biliodigestive anastomosis was found and controlled by endoscopic injection of cyanoacrylate. Intraoperative endoscopy should be considered in the case of life-threatening gastrointestinal hemorrhage that is not accessible by conventional endoscopy.

Coffin–Lowry–Syndrome(CLS)is a X-linked mental retardation characterized by skeletal dysplasia and premature tooth *** and others have previously demonstrated that the ribosomal S6 kinase RSK2,mutated in CLS,is essential for bone and cementum formation;however,it remains to be established whether RSK2 plays also a role in mechanically induced bone remodeling during orthodontic tooth movement(OTM).We,therefore,performed OTM in wild-type(WT)mice and Rsk2-deficient mice using Nitinol tension springs that were fixed between the upper left molars and the *** untreated contralateral molars served as internal *** 12 days of OTM,the jaws were removed and examined by micro-computed tomography(μCT),decalcified histology,and *** analysis of the untreated teeth confirmed that the periodontal phenotype of Rsk2-deficient mice is characterized by alveolar bone loss and hypoplasia of root *** of OTM usingμCT revealed that OTM was more than two-fold faster in Rsk2-deficient mice as compared to *** also observed that OTM caused alveolar bone loss and root resorptions in WT and Rsk2-deficient ***,quantification of these orthodontic side effects revealed no differences between WT and Rsk2-deficient *** together,Rsk2 loss-of-function accelerates OTM in mice without causing more side effects.

Coronary surgery following prior pneumonectomy —A challenging clinical scenario with excellent results

Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with prior pneumonectomy is challenging because of the decreased pulmonary function and the anatomical alterations of the thoracic cavity. Due to extended morbidity and mortality in this special patient cohort, only very few reports in the world literature focus on this topic. Overall, no general recommendations exist with regard to the optimal management of this continuously growing patient cohort. We present our experience with another successful case.
