Bats are the second-most diverse g.oup of mammals in the world,and bat flies are their main ***,sig.ificant knowledg. g.ps remain reg.rding.these antag.nistic interactions,especially since diverse factors such as seasonality and host sex can affect their network ***,we explore the influence of such factors by comparing.species richness and composition of bat flies on host bats,as well as specialization and modularity of bat–bat fly interaction networks between seasons and adult host *** captured bats and collected their ectoparasitic flies at 10 sampling.sites in the savannahs of AmapáState,northeastern reg.on of the Brazilian *** female bats being.more parasitized and recording.g.eater bat fly species richness in the wet season,neither relationship was statistically *** pooled network could be divided into 15 compartments with 54 links,and all subnetworks comprised>12 *** total number of links rang.d from 27 to 48(for the dry and wet seasons,respectively),and female and male subnetworks had 44 and 41 links,*** values were very low for the pooled network and for all *** results revealed hig.er bat fly species richness and abundance in the wet season,whereas specialization and modularity were hig.er in the dry ***,the subnetwork for female bats displayed hig.er specialization and modularity than the male ***,both seasonality and host sex contribute in different ways to bat–bat fly network *** studies should consider these factors when evaluating.bat–bat fly interaction networks.

Introduction: At the beg.nning.of the COVID-19 pandemic, a drop in the number of patients treated for cardiac emerg.ncies raised concern about cardiovascular mortality in that period. An increase in care delay for patients with ST-seg.ent elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) may have affected clinical outcomes. Objectives: To analyze delay times and clinical outcomes of patients with STEMI underg.ing.primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI), before and during.the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Retrospective observational study that included patients with STEMI underg.ing.PPCI from december 2018 to July 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic cases were divided into two g.oups: pandemic I—from March to Aug.st 2020;and pandemic II—from September 2020 to July 2021. Patients were compared according.to the period of hospitalization. Primary outcomes were delay times in assistance and clinical outcomes (acute kidney injury [AKI], post-procedural vascular complications and in-hospital mortality). Results: 108 patients were included, 39 (36.1%) in the pre-pandemic period, 13 (12.1%) in pandemic I and 56 (51.8%) in pandemic II. Time from onset of symptoms to arrival at the service and door-to-balloon time did not differ sig.ificantly among.g.oups. Vascular complications were more frequent during.the pandemic (I and II) than in the pre-pandemic period (2.5% pre-pandemic vs 15.4% pandemic vs 12.5% pandemic II;p = 0.03). AKI incidence was similar in all three periods. There was a non-sig.ificant increase in in-hospital mortality during.the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusion: In patients with STEMI, there was an increase in vascular complications and a trend toward increased mortality during.the COVID-19 pandemic. delay times to admission and reperfusion did not differ sig.ificantly between before and during.the pandemic.

Oil spills and oil/water wastewater are among.the g.eat concerns reg.rding.oil *** technolog.es face many limitations and in some cases are responsible for causing.secondary pollution,therefore there is as seek for environmental friendly ***,from which celluloses are hig.lig.ted,are being.employed for oil/water separation or oil absorbents ***,these membranes are obtained by freeze drying.of CNF(cellulose nano-fibrils)suspensions followed by chemical modification for hydrophobization,which involves expensive process as chemical vapor deposition and expensive reactants as sylanes,turning.these processes hardly ***,we produced a natural porous structure paper from eucalyptus pulp fibers modified by a dipping.and heating.process in a blocked diisocyanate *** the surface treatment,contact ang.e with water reached 144°and water absorption reduced seven times,keeping.the g.od oil *** chemical modification process is simple to be performed and use a very low quantity of reactant estimated to be less than 0.1 wt%based on *** g.od mechanical properties of the material allows its use in non usual conditions which can be of g.eat importance depending.on the environmental conditions.

BACKg.OUND Infection by the hepatitis C virus(HCV) is currently considered to be a g.obal health issue, with a hig. worldwide prevalence and causing.chronic disease in afflicted individuals. The disease larg.ly involves the liver but it can affect other org.ns, including.the skin. While leukocytoclastic vasculitis has been reported as one of the dermatolog.c manifestations of HCV infection, there are no reports of this condition as the first symptom of HCV recurrence after liver *** SUMMARY We report here a case of leukocytoclastic vasculitis in a liver transplant recipient on maintenance immunosuppression. The condition presented as a palpable purpura in both lower extremities. Blood and urine cultures were neg.tive and all biochemical tests were normal, excepting.evidence of anemia and hypocomplementemia. Imag.ng.examination by computed tomog.aphy showed a small volume of ascites, diffuse thickening.of bowel walls, and a small bilateral pleural effusion. Skin biopsy showed leukocytoclasia and fibrinoid *** biopsy was sug.estive of HCV recurrence in the g.aft, and HCV polymerase chain reaction yielded 11460 copies/mL and identified the g.notype as 1 A. Treatment of the virus with a 12-wk direct-acting.antiviral reg.men of ribavirin, sofosbuvir and daclatasvir led to reg.ession of the symptoms within the first 10 d and subsequent complete resolution of the *** This case hig.lig.ts the difficulties of diag.osing.skin lesions caused by HCVinfection in immunosuppressed patients.

BACKg.OUND Cryptococcosis is a fung.l infection caused by the yeast-like encapsulated basidiomycetous fung.s of the Cryptococcus neoformans(***)species *** fung. are ubiquitous in soil and bird dropping.,and infection by them is an important g.obal health concern,particularly in immunosuppressed patients,such as org.n transplant recipients and those infected by the human immunodeficiency *** fung.s usually enters the body throug. the respiratory tract,but extremely rare cases of infection acquired by transplantation of solid org.ns have been *** SUMMARY We report a case of disseminated cryptococcosis in a liver transplant recipient,diag.osed 2 wk after the *** patient initially presented with fever,hyponatremia and elevated transaminase levels,manifesting.intense headache after a few *** cultures were positive for *** biopsy showed numerous fung.l elements surrounded by g.latinous matrix and sparse g.anulomatous *** resonance imag.ng.of the brain showed multiple small lesions with low sig.al in T2,peripheric enhancement and edematous halo,diffuse throug. the parenchyma but more concentrated in the subcortical *** with amphotericin B for 3 wk,followed by maintenance therapy with fluconazole,led to complete resolution of the *** recipients of both kidneys from the same donor also developed disseminated cryptococcosis,confirming.the transplant as the source of *** org.n donor lived in a rural area,surrounded by tropical rainforest,and had neg.tive blood cultures prior to org.n *** This case hig.lig.ts the risk of transmission of fung.l diseases,specifically of ***,throug. liver g.aft during.liver transplantation.

A New Formulation to the Point Kinetics Equations Considering.the Time Variation of the Neutron Currents

The system of point kinetics equations describes the time behaviour of a nuclear reactor, assuming.that, during.the transient, the spatial form of the flux of neutrons varies very little. This system has been larg.ly used in the analysis of transients, where the numerical solutions of the equations are limited by the stiffness problem that results from the different time scales of the instantaneous and delayed neutrons. Its derivation can be done directly from the neutron transport equation, from the neutron diffusion equation or throug. a heuristics procedure. All of them lead to the same functional form of the system of differential equations for point kinetics, but with different coefficients. However, the solution of the neutron transport equation is of little practical use as it requires the chang. of the existent core desig. systems, as used to calculate the desig. of the cores of nuclear reactors for different operating.cycles. Several approximations can be made for the said derivation. One of them consists of disreg.rding.the time derivative for neutron density in comparison with the remaining.terms of the equation resulting.from the P1 approximation of the transport equation. In this paper, we consider that the time derivative for neutron current density is not neg.ig.ble in the P1 equation. Thus being. we obtained a new system of equations of point kinetics that we named as modified. The innovation of the method presented in the manuscript consists in adopting.arising.from the P1 equations, without neg.ecting.the derivative of the current neutrons, to derive the modified point kinetics equations instead of adopting.the Fick’s law which results in the classic point kinetics equations. The results of the comparison between the point kinetics equations, modified and classical, indicate that the time derivative for the neutron current density should not be disreg.rded in several of transient analysis situations.

Sheehan’s Syndrome (SS) occurs as a result of ischemic pituitary necrosis due to severe post-partum hemorrhag.. We report a 41-year-old woman with a history of severe postpartum hemorrhag. 18 years prior to presentation. During.this period of time, she experienced severe fatig.e. Three months prior to being.admitted to our hospital, the patient started to notice alopecia, g.neralized edema and cog.itive impairment. After proper investig.tion, laboratory tests and clinical finding. indicated panhypopituitarism. In addition to neuroimag.ng.and past medical history, SS was diag.osed and treatment started. We emphasize the importance of thoroug. investig.tion, further diag.osis and manag.ment of this condition (especially in third world countries), since SS is a neurolog.cal and endocrinolog.cal emerg.ncy and potentially life threatening.
