Most of the studies on Artificial Neural Network(ANN)models remain restricted to smaller rivers and *** this paper,an attempt has been made to correlate variability of sediment loads with rainfall and runoff through the application of the Back Propagation Neural Network(BPNN)algorithm for a large tropical *** algorithm and simulation are done through MATLAB *** methodology comprised of a collection of data on rainfall,water discharge,and sediment discharge for the Narmada River at various locations(along with time variables)and application to develop a threelayer BPNN model for the prediction of sediment *** training and validation purposes a set of549 data points for the monsoon(16 June-15 November)period of three consecutive years(1996-1998)was *** testing purposes,the BPNN model was further trained using a set of 732 data points of monsoon season of four years(2006-07 to 2009-10)at nine *** model was tested by predicting daily sediment load for the monsoon season of the year *** evaluate the performance of the BPNN model,errors were calculated by comparing the actual and predicted *** validation and testing results obtained at all these locations are tabulated and *** obtained from the model application are robust and encouraging not only for the sub-basins but also for the entire *** results suggest that the proposed model is capable of predicting the daily sediment load even at downstream locations,which show nonlinearity in the transportation ***,the proposed model with further training might be useful in the prediction of sediment discharges for large river basins.

Objective:Vesical Imaging Reporting and Data System(VIRADS)score was developed to standardize the reporting and staging of bladder tumors on pre-operative multiparametric magnetic resonance *** helps in avoiding unnecessary repeat transurethral resection of bladder tumor in high-risk non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer *** study was done to determine the validity of VIRADS score prospectively for the diagnosis of muscleinvasive bladder ***:This study was conducted from March 2019 to March 2020 at Sawai Man Singh Medical College and Hospital,Jaipur,Rajasthan,*** admitted with the provisional diagnosis of bladder tumor were included as *** these patients underwent a 3 Tesla mpMRI to obtain a VIRADS score before they underwent transurethral resection of bladder tumor and these data were analyzed to evaluate the correlation of pre-operative VIRADS score with mus-cle invasiveness of the tumor in final biopsy ***:A cut-off of VIRADS≥4 for prediction of detrusor muscle invasion yielded a sensitivity of 79.4%,specificity of 94.2%,positive predictive value of 90.0%,negative predictive value of 87.5%,and diagnostic accuracy of 86.4%.A cut off of VIRADS≥3 for prediction of detrusor muscle invasion yielded a sensitivity of 91.2%,specificity of 78.8%,positive predictive value of 73.8%,negative predictive value of 93.2%,and accuracy of 83.7%.The receiver operating curve showed the area under the curve to be 0.922(95%confidence interval:0.862e0.983).Conclusion:VIRADS score appears to be an excellent and effective pre-operative radiological tool for the prediction of detrusor muscle invasion in bladder cancer.

Enzymes of Phenylpropanoid Metabolism Involved in Strengthening the Structural Barrier for Providing Genotype and Stage Dependent Resistance to Karnal Bunt in Wheat

The role of lignifications and enzymes involved in the phenylpropanoid (PP) biosynthesis i.e. phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), Peroxidase (POD), Polyphenol oxidase (PPO) in providing resistance to Karnal Bunt (KB) during different developmental stages of resistant (HD-29) and susceptible genotype (WH-542) and its recombinant inbred lines (RILs) of wheat were investigated. The enzymes of PP pathway were expressed constitutively in both the susceptible and resistant genotype. However, the activity was higher in all the developmental stages of resistant genotype and its RILs, indicating that this genotype has a significant higher basal level of these enzymes as compared to the susceptible line and could be used as marker(s) to define KB resistance. The activity of PAL and POD was significantly higher in WSv stage (Z = 16) while the specific activity of PPO was higher in WS3 (Z = 77) stage as compared to the other physiological stages in both the genotypes. In resistant genotype the lignin content increased two-fold and three-fold at WS2 and WS3 stage, respectively, while in susceptible genotype no significant increase in lignin content was observed. The pathway might be associated with the enhancement of structural defense barrier due to lignifications of cell wall as evident from the enhanced synthesis of lignin in all the stages of resistant genotype. Our results clearly indicate the possible role of enzymes of PP metabolism provides genotype and stage dependant structural barrier resistance in wheat against KB.

Konno Procedure for Managing Small Aortic Root during Aortic Valve Replacement Surgery: An Experience of 12 Cases

Background: Small aortic annulus during aortic valve replacement can lead to implanting a smaller sized valve compared to the body surface area thereby causing patient prosthesis mismatch. Various aortic root enlargement techniques have been described depending on anterior or posterior approach. Konno procedure uses anterior approach for aortic root enlargement. In this study, we reviewed results of Konno procedure done from 2011 to 2019 by a single surgeon. Methods: 12 adult patients who underwent aortic valve replacement along with Konno procedure for small aortic root by a single surgeon at a single center between 2011 and 2019 were reviewed. Echocardiographic and demographic data and post-operative data were obtained from medical records. Symptomatic profile was assessed as per New York Heart Association Classification. Intraoperative findings and post-operative period findings were noted. Follow up symptom profile was assessed for these patients. Results: 12 patients underwent Konno procedure between 2011 and 2019 for small aortic root along with valve replacement. The main indication for surgery was aortic stenosis with small aortic annulus, with or without involvement of the mitral valve. Preoperatively, 3 patients had NYHA class II and 9 patients had NYHA class III symptoms. Mean age at operation was 26.42 years, minimum age 10 years, and maximum age 39 years. 3 were females and 9 were males. Mean bypass time was 106.4 minutes and aortic cross clamp time was 80.67 minutes. Mechanical aortic valves were implanted in all patients. Mean post-operative blood loss was 134.2 ml and duration of ventilation before extubation was 14.5 hours. Mean duration of intensive care unit (ICU) stay was 2.83 days and hospital stay was 9.1 days. Mean gradient in the post-operative period was 10.75 mm Hg. There was no mortality in these 12 patients and no reoperation was needed in the follow up period. Follow up in the outpatient department suggested all patients had NYHA class I
