Effects of Salacia lehmbachii ethanol root bark extract on estrous cycle and sex hormones of female albino rats

Objective:To evaluate the effect of Salacia lehmbachii (S. lehmbachii) ethanol root bark extract on estrous cycle and sex hormones in female rats. Methods: Forty-eight virgin rats with regular 4-day cycle were grouped into four and each group was further subdivided into 'a' and 'b' (n=6). Each group was orally treated for 28 days with 2 mL of distilled water (control), ethanol root bark extract ofS. lehmbachii in doses of 250, 500 and 750 mg/kg/body weight (groups 2, 3, 4, respectively). Estrous cycle was determined daily using the vaginal smear method. Rats in'a' subgroups were weighed and sacrificed on the 29th day, and blood was collected for serum generation which was used for hormonal assay and sex organs were removed and weighed. Rats in 'b' subgroups were discontinued from treatment for 2 weeks and the parameters above were ***:The mean length of estrous cycle and duration of diestrous of treated rats were prolonged dose dependently compared to control. The increase was significant (Pced significantly (Pcantly (Pced compared to control. The above changes reverted towards the control values two weeks post ***: Ethanol root bark extract ofS. lehmbachii (high doses) has antifertility effect in female rats as it prolongs the estrous and diestrous cycle, and reduces serum sex hormones levels. SP100 is an antiviral protein that restricts the productive stage of human papillomavirus(HPV)and multiple other viruses,and viruses in turn block sUMO-1-mediated stabilization of SP100 and promotes its degradation(Table S1).Interferon(IFN)signaling could still produce more SP100 through transcription to counteract viruses.1 Viruses also disable the transcriptional up-regulation of SP100 to achieve persistent infection in hosts.

OBJEcTIVE: To evaluate the in vivo antiplasmodial activity and the oral acute toxicity of the Bombax buonopozense root bark aqueous ***: The in vivo antiplasmodial activity of the root bark aqueous extract of Bombax buonopozense against early and established rodent malaria infections in chloroquine sensitive Plasmodium berghei strain in mice was investigated, and oral acute toxicity of the aqueous root bark extract of Bombax buonopozense was also evaluated in ***: The findings of this study revealed significant(P crease in parasitaemia in the parasitized groups treated with varying doses of the extract(50-200 mg/kg p.o.) in both suppressive and curative tests. There was also significant decrease in parasitaemia density in the chloroquine treated group. The aqueous extract was found no toxicity in mice and the oral LD50 was determined to be greater than 5000 mg/***: Bombax buonopozense root bark aqueous extract possesses potent antiplasmodial activity and may therefore, serve as potential sources of new antimalarial agents.

In recirculating aquaculture systems,nitrification is usually accelerated by inoculating nitrifier or mature *** this study,the performance of the establishment of nitrification in the MBBR according to three different strategies:conventional method(control group A),inoculation with biofloc recovered from a tilapia biofloc culture system(Group B),and addition with extra nitrite(Group c)in the Moving bed biofilm reactor(MBBR)was *** them,the biofloc-inoculated group considerably accelerated the nitrification process in the MBBR(38 d),which is roughly 18 d faster than the control group(A)(56 d)and 21 d faster than group c(59 d).Less ammonia(8 mg/L NH_(4)^(+)-N,10 mg/L in other groups)and external nitrite(2 mg/L NO_(2)􀀀^(-)N)in the influent caused effluent ammonia to drop more slowly(5 d slower than the control group,8 d slower than the B group),which is detrimental to the nitrification process’***,the influent’s hydraulic retention time(HRT)was reduced from 12 h to 6 h following the successful establishment of *** the adaptation to reduced HRT,the MBBR inoculated with biofloc experienced short-term changes in the water quality index of the effluent water,whereas the other groups did *** biofilm seeded with biofloc had the highest mean gray value ratio(1.42)of live/dead cell fluorescence,which grew better and could cover the entire groove under multiple microscope ***,the other groups did not demonstrate a similar *** summary,the research found that seeding biofloc use as nitrification bioaugmentation into the MBBR of the recirculating aquaculture system(RAS)to greatly speed up the nitrification process.

catalytic Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Water Hyacinth Using Fe₃O₄/NiO Nanocomposite: Optimization of Reaction conditions by Response Surface Methodology

This research aimed at optimizing the reaction conditions for the catalytic hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of water hyacinth using iron oxide/nickel oxide nanocomposite as catalysts. The iron oxide/nickel oxide nanocomposite was synthesized by the co-precipitation method and used in the hydrothermal liquefaction of water hyacinth. The composition and structural morphology of the synthesized catalysts were determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). The particle size distribution of the catalyst nanoparticles was determined by the Image J software. Three reaction parameters were optimized using the response surface methodology (RSM). These were: temperature, residence time, and catalyst dosage. A maximum bio-oil yield of 59.4 wt% was obtained using iron oxide/nickel oxide nanocomposite compared to 50.7 wt% obtained in absence of the catalyst. The maximum bio-oil yield was obtained at a temperature of 320°c, 1.5 g of catalyst dosage, and 60 min of residence time. The composition of bio-oil was analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (Gc-MS) and elemental analysis. The Gc-MS results showed an increase of hydrocarbons from 58.3% for uncatalyzed hydrothermal liquefaction to 88.66% using iron oxide/nickel oxide nanocomposite. Elemental analysis results revealed an increase in the hydrogen and carbon content and a reduction in the Nitrogen, Oxygen, and Sulphur content of the bio-oil during catalytic HTL compared to HTL in absence of catalyst nanoparticles. The high heating value increased from 33.5 MJ/Kg for uncatalyzed hydrothermal liquefaction to 38.6 MJ/Kg during the catalytic HTL. In our previous studies, we have found that the prepubertal increase in thyroid hormone levels induces osterix(Osx) signaling in hypertrophic chondrocytes to transdifferentiate them into osteoblasts. To test if Osx expressed in chondrocytes directly contributes to transdifferentiation and secondary ossification, we generated Osx^flox/flox;col2-cre-ERT2 mice and knocked out Osx with a single injection of tamoxifen at postnatal day(P) 3 prior to evaluation of the epiphyseal bone phenotype by μcT, histology, and immunohistochemistry(IHc) at P21. Vehicle(oil)-treated Osx^flox/flox;col2-cre-ERT2 and tamoxifen-treated, cre-negative Osx^flox/flox mice were used as controls.μcT analysis of tibial epiphyses revealed that trabecular bone mass was reduced by 23% in the Osx conditional knockout(c KO) compared with control mice. Trabecular number and thickness were reduced by 28% and 8%,respectively, while trabecular separation was increased by 24% in the c KO mice. Trichrome staining of longitudinal sections of tibial epiphyses showed that bone area and bone area adjusted for total area were decreased by 22% and 18%, respectively. IHc studies revealed the presence of abundant Osx-expressing prehypertrophic chondrocytes in the epiphyses of control mice at P10, but not in the cKO mice. Furthermore, expression levels of MMP13, cOL10, ALP, and BSP were considerably reduced in the epiphyses of cKO mice. We also found that Osx overexpression in ATDc5 chondrocytes increased expression of col10, Mmp13, Alp, and Bsp. Our data indicate that Osx expressed in chondrocytes plays a significant role in secondary ossification by regulating expression of genes involved in chondrocyte hypertrophy and osteoblast transdifferentiation.

Offsetting particulate matter emissions has become a critical global aim as there are concerted efforts to deal with environmental and energy poverty *** study consists of investigations of computing emissions of particulate matter from biomass fuels in various atmospheres and *** laboratory setup included a fixed bed electric reactor and a particulate matter(PM)measuring machine interfaced with the flue gas from the fixed bed reactor combustion *** experiments were conducted at seven different temperatures(600℃-1200℃)and six incremental oxygen concentrations(21%-100%).Five biomass types were studied;A-cornstalk,B-wood,c-wheat straw,D-Rice husk,E-Peanut shell,each pulverized to a size of approximately 75 *** study shows that PM emitted during char combustion is consistently higher than that emitted during the *** de-volatilization,increase in temperature leads to linear decrease in PM emission between atmospheres of 21%O_(2)to 50%O_(2),thereafter,between 70%O_(2)to 100%O_(2);increase in temperature leads to a rise in PM *** average PM formation from all the five considered biomass is relatively comparable however,with differing atmospheres and temperatures,the fibrous and low-density biomass forms more *** char combustion,the study shows that at oxygen levels of 21%,70%,90%and 100%,increase in temperature leads to increased PM *** increase in oxygen concentration and temperature increases the rate of combustion hence diminishing the time of combustion.
