Anhedonia and functional dyspepsia in obese patients:Relationship with binge eating behaviour

BACKGROUND Obese patients(Ob)with a binge eating disorders(BED)behavior pattern have a higher prevalence of postprandial distress syndrome(PDS)compared to Ob without a BED behavior pattern,while an increase of PDS has been described in Ob after sleeve gastrectomy(SG).Hedonic response to a meal is dissociable from satiation in healthy *** is the lowered ability to experience *** are no studies investigating the presence of anhedonia in Ob with and without SG and its relationship to PDS *** To assess the relationship among anhedonia,BED and upper gastrointestinal symptoms in two group of morbidly Ob with and without *** Eighty-one Ob without SG,45 Ob with SG and 55 healthy controls(HC)were *** subjects fulfilled the binge eating scale(BES)to investigate BED,the validated 14 items Snaith-Hamilton pleasure scale(SHAPS)to assess Anhedonia as well as the Beck Depression Inventory-II(BDI II)and State Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI)questionnaires to screen for depression and *** patients underwent a standardized questionnaire investigating the intensity-frequency scores(0-6)of upper gastrointestinal symptoms and were diagnosed for the presence of functional dyspepsia(FD)and its subtypes according to ROME IV *** Ob without SG who were positive for BED had a 4.7 higher risk of FD compared to Ob without SG who were negative for BED(OR:4.7;95.0%CI 1.23-18.24;P=0.02).STAI-Y2 scores were significantly higher in Ob without SG positive for BED(42.2±1.5 vs Ob negative for BED:39.6±1.0,P=0.04),while SHAPS scores and BDI II did not differ in the two groups(1.16±1.30 vs 0.89±1.02,P=0.49).A lower prevalence of BED(BES>17:11.4%vs 40.7%,P=0.001)and BDI-II(6.8±1.2 vs 13.8±1.9,P=0.005)was reported in Ob with SG than Ob without SG,on the contrary total mean scores of STAI-Y1 and STAI-Y2 were significantly higher in Ob with SG than Ob without ***-five percent of Ob with SG fulfilled the diagnosis of *** mean score

Advanced hepatocellular carcinoma treatment strategies:Are transarterial approaches leading the way?

Deep learning to develop zero-equation based turbulence model for CFD simulations of the built environment

This study aims to improve the accuracy and speed of predictions for thermal comfort and air quality in built environments by creating a coupled framework between computational fluid dynamics(CFD)simulations and deep learning *** coupling approach is showcased by the development of a data-driven turbulence *** new turbulence model is built using a deep learning neural network,whose mapping structure is based on a zero-equation turbulence model for built environment simulations,and is coupled with the CFD software OpenFOAM to create a hybrid *** neural network is a standard shallow multi-layer *** number of hidden layers and nodes per layer was optimized using Bayesan optimization *** framework is trained on an indoor environment case study,as well as tested on an indoor office simulation and an outdoor building array *** show that the deep learning based turbulence model is more robust and faster than traditional two-equation Reynolds average Navier-Stokes(RANS)turbulence models,while maintaining a similar level of *** model also outperforms the standard algebraic zero-equation model due to its superior ability to generalize to various flow *** some challenges,namely the mapping constraint,the limited training dataset size and the source of generation of training data,the hybrid framework demonstrates the viability of the coupling technique and serves as a starting point for future development of more reliable and advanced models.

Numerical modeling of deep-seated landslides interacting with man-made structures

This paper describes the interaction between deep-seated landslides and man-made structures such as dams, penstocks, viaducts, and tunnels. Selected case studies are reported first with the intent to gain insights into the complexities associated with the interaction of these structures with deep-seated landslides(generally referred to as deep-seated gravity slope deformations, DSGSDs). The main features, which characterize these landslides, are mentioned together with the interaction problems encountered in each case. Given the main objective of this paper, the numerical modeling methods adopted are outlined as means for increase in the understanding of the interaction problems being investigated. With the above in mind, the attention moves to an important and unique case history dealing with the interaction of a large-size twin-tunnel excavated with an earth pressure balance(EPB)tunnel boring machine(TBM) and a deep-seated landslide, which was reactivated due to the stress changes induced by tunnel excavation in landslide shear zone. The geological and geotechnical conditions are described together with the available monitoring data on the landslide movements, based on the advanced and conventional monitoring tools used. Numerical modeling is illustrated as an aid to back-analyze the monitored surface and subsurface deformations and to assist in finding the appropriate engineering solution for putting the tunnel into service and as a follow-up means for future understanding and control of the interaction problems. The simulation is based on a novel time-dependent model representing the landslide behavior.

When Edge Computing Meets IoT Systems: Analysis of Case Studies

On a macroscopic level,an edge computing architecture looks like a distributed and decentralized IT(Information Technology)*** in detail,it could be defined as a mesh network of micro data centers capable of processing and storing critical data locally,and to transmit all data received and/or processed to a central data center or a cloud storage *** network topology,also taking advantage of the availability on the market of cost-effective small form factor(SFF)electronic components and systems decreasing,brings the essential components of processing,storage,and networking closer to the sources that generate the *** typical use case is that of Internet of Things(IoT)devices and implementations,which often face latency problems,lack of bandwidth,reliability,which cannot be addressed through the conventional cloud *** this context,the edge computing architecture can reduce the size of data to be sent to the cloud,processing critical data,sensitive to latency,at the point of origin,via a smart device,or sending it to an intermediate server,located *** aim of this paper is to report some of the main aspects and significant features of edge computing and analyzing several popular case studies.

How believable are published laboratory data?A deeper look into system-compliance and elastic modulus

Elastic modulus(E)interpretation is debatable with limited literature detailing the impact of *** address this impact,a comprehensive testing schedule using an aluminium 6061(Al)sample is carried out on several systems under various test *** is chosen as it is extruded and adheres to well defined shape tolerances and elastic properties.A robust method,using the Savitzky-Golay filter,is introduced to identify significant slope changes in the stressestrain *** the load in the test system is well defined,the recorded deformation is corrected to the expected value of Al resulting in a system-compliance *** results across the testing systems and test setups showed significant variance,with the recorded E always lower than the anticipated *** number of components within the system over which the deformation is measured had the most significant impact,lowering the expected E by up to 50%.Additionally,the system-compliance factor is inconsistent across different systems and ***,it is evidently proved that each setup must be separately evaluated for its system-compliance and that no single value exists across systems and *** findings are then projected onto a series of uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)tests carried out on Stanstead granite(SS GR)*** corrected Et50 and Eavg values for system-compliance of the samples are within1%for each system as opposed to being50%*** findings conclude that it is deemed necessary and of utmost importance that the deformation be corrected to accommodate the systemcompliance to obtain reliable results.
