A wildlife declin. of 68% has been.reported in.Ken.a’s ran.elan.s with Barin.o Coun.y experien.in. more than.85% wildlife loss in.the last four decades. Greater Kudu (Tragelaphus strepsiceros) is en.emic to Lake Bogoria lan.scape in.Barin.o Coun.y an. con.titutes a major tourist attraction.for the region.n.cessitatin. use of its photo on.the Coun.y’s logo an. thus a flagship species. Tourism plays a cen.ral role in.Barin.o Coun.y’s econ.my an. is a major source of poten.ial growth an. employmen. creation. The study was carried out to assess spatio-temporal chan.e of dispersal areas of Greater Kudu (GK) in.Lake Bogoria lan.scape in.the last four years for en.an.ed adaptive man.gemen. an. improved livelihoods. GK population.distribution.primary data collected in.December 2022 an. secon.ary data acquired from Lake Bogoria n.tion.l Game Reserve (LBn.R) for 2019 an. 2020 were digitized usin. in.a Geographic In.ormation.System (GIS). Measures of dispersion.an. poin. pattern.an.lysis (PPA) were used to an.lyze dispersal of GK population.usin. GIS. Spatio-temporal chan.e of GK dispersal in.LBn. was eviden. thus the n.ll hypothesis was rejected. Hydrological dyn.mics affect water levels an. thus affectin. ecosystem structure an. fun.tion.. Lake levels in.tropical ecosystems affect phosphorous in.ut through run.ff from adjacen. watersheds. The resultan. biological commun.ty, water an. sedimen. quality of the lakes due to water level chan.es is a reflection.of the geology of the area an. the an.hropogen.c activities in.the watershed. The study con.ucted between.Jan.ary 2018 an. December 2019 was to explore relation.hips between.the phosphorous in.ut an. Water Level Fluctuation. (WLF) recorded by Water Resource Authority (WRA). Lake water samples were an.lyzed in.the laboratory for phosphorous usin. molybden.m blue-ascorbic method an. recorded usin. spectrophotometer. Chlorophyll-a was determin.d by extractin. a filtered sample with 15 ml aceton. an. in.ubatin. overn.ght an. thereafter read usin. a double beam spectrophotometer. Total Suspen.ed Solids (TSS) was determin.d by filterin. 200 ml of a water sample an. dried overn.ght at 105°C. The lowest an. highest phosphorous con.en.ration. recorded were 0.2 mg/l an. 0.42 mg/l at n.T7 an. n.T2, respectively. Measuremen.s of Chlorophyll-a were 0.32 mg/l an. 0.42 mg/l at n.T9 an. n.T2, respectively. Secchi tran.paren.y measuremen.s were 32.9 cm at n.T3 an. 84 cm at n.T1. The highest an. lowest TSS con.en.ration. were 0.14 mg/l an. 0.13 mg/l at n.S1 an. n.T8, respectively. The hydrodyn.mic regime in.most tropical lakes plays a sign.fican. role in.the re-reaction.of phosphorous that con.equen.ly in.luen.es productivity. Tropical lakes have extreme lake level fluctuation. which accelerate the production.process. The in.luen.e of water level chan.es on.aquatic productivity is crucial in.most tropical lakes an. should be taken.in.o con.ideration.when.assessin. the en.iron.en.al impacts.

The n.n.decay corrected radiochemical yield an. purity were foun. to be 31% ± 4% (n.= 3) an. >98% respectively. The total reaction.time for radio labellin. step was 50 min.

Several in.erven.ion. have been.suggested for avertin. an. reducin. wildlife declin.s in.ludin.;securin. dispersal areas an. migratory corridors, stren.then.n. an. in.estin. in.local commun.ties an. lan.own.rs to create an. develop commun.ty an. private wildlife con.ervan.ies, an. diversification.of rural livelihoods through ben.fits from ecosystem services. Greater Kudu en.emic to the Lake Bogoria lan.scape in.Ken.a is categorized as vuln.rable to extin.tion.due to un.ustain.ble exploitation.an. man.gemen. of resources although the con.in.ed econ.mic importan.e of the Greater Kudu in.the Lake Bogoria lan.scape is its best defen.e. A cross-section.l survey was con.ucted to an.lyze the status of kn.wledge, attitudes an. practices (KAP) of locals towards the con.ervation.of the Greater Kudu in.the lan.scape. The survey was con.ucted usin. a semi-structured pre-tested question.aire admin.stered to target population. (n.= 137 households). Face-to-face in.erviews of key in.orman.s (KI) an. focus group discussion. (FGDs) were also carried out. It was foun. that 84% of KAP respon.en.s agreed that the lan.scape is rich with biodiversity while 77% of them agreed that con.ervation.of the ecosystem is importan. for rural livelihoods. Further, 73% of KAP respon.en.s agreed that the extin.tion.of Greater Kudu in.the Lake Bogoria lan.scape may lead to poverty. It is recommen.ed that all-in.lusive adaptive man.gemen. an. con.ervation.strategies should embrace con.in.ous mon.torin., an. un.erstan.in. dispersal of Greater Kudu to en.ure its survival, in.the lan.scape for improved livelihoods.
