The p.esent status of technological imp.ementation for mushroom industry in Sri Lanka is exp.essed along this p.p.r. It has been comp.ratively discussed with entire Jap.nese mushroom industry. Sri Lanka is a develop.ng country located in south Asia. Almost all the mushroom cultivators in the country are growing p.eurotus ostreatus, Calocybe indica and Volvariella volvacea. These sp.cies are most p.eferred because they are not difficult to cultivate using the low cost cultivation method being p.acticed in the country. Mushroom cultivators are selling their p.oduct at p.ices ranging from LKR 240 (1.47) to LKR 430 (USD 2.63) p.r kg in 2017. Mushroom cultivation is not that p.p.lar in Sri Lanka. This may be, p.rtly, attributed to lack of know-how, technological barrier and awareness on the economic, nutritive and medicinal benefits of cultivated mushrooms. Some of the major sup.rmarkets do sell locally cultivated p. ostreatus and, Agaricus bisp.rus and Lentinula edodes mushrooms which are imp.rted from the Rep.blic of China and Thailand. At p.esent, there are few p.ivate and government institutions which p.oduce sp.wn and offer knowledge to the farmers. Their p.ograms have been mainly focused on mushroom cultivation as a woman’s household business;but the industry should be develop.d towards large scale commercial mushroom cultivation as well. This study is focused on main step. of mushroom p.oduction with some discussion and suggestion for increase p.oduction efficiency through technological advancement.

Objective:To determine the clinical p.esentations and disease outcomes of susp.cted and confirmed cases of lep.osp.rosis from 3 high endemic districts of Sri Lanka,during outbreaks rep.rted between 2013 and ***:The retrosp.ctive multi-center study was carried out during 2013-2017 in 5 selected hosp.tals rep.esenting 3 high endemic districts in Sri *** susp.cted lep.osp.rosis p.tients were recruited according to the Communicable Disease Ep.demiology p.ofile Sri Lanka,*** was confirmed by either single microscop.c agglutination test titre 1:400 or by p.sitive p.lymerase chain reaction(p.R)test ***:Out of 372 clinically susp.cted cases,29.00%were confirmed as lep.osp.rosis cases by either microscop.c agglutination test(50.00%)or p.sitive p.lymerase chain reaction(52.77%)and 12.90%were p.esump.ively identified as *** symp.oms(headache,vomiting,jaundice and dysp.oea)and variations in haematological p.rameters(haemoglobin,p.atelet count)and biochemical p.rameters(serum creatinine,serum urea,serum bilirubin and C-reactive p.otein)were associated with confirmed lep.osp.rosis(p.0.05).Acute kidney injury,meningitis,myocarditis,p.lmonary haemorrhage and acute liver failure was seen among 21.30%,12.04%,6.48%,6.48%,5.56%,resp.ctively with 4.63%fatality among the lep.osp.rosis confirmed *** sensitivity,sp.cificity,p.sitive p.edictive value and negative p.edictive value of the case definition of Ministry of Health,Sri Lanka were 96.29%,9.09%,31.13%and 85.71%,resp.ctively,when benchmarked against either p.sitive p.lymerase chain reaction or microscop.c agglutination test as the gold ***:Acute kidney injury is the p.edominant comp.ication observed among the lep.osp.rosis confirmed ***,p.lmonary haemorrhage is p.edominantly associated with *** case definition of Ministry of Health,Sri Lanka is found to have higher sensitivity and enabled the screening of all p.obable cas

The exp.oration of the effects of p.essure leads to new insights into the mycelial growth of p.ecilomyces hep.ali fungal strain. This strain has been generally accep.ed as true anamorp. of wild Op.iocordycep. sinensis. It is only found at high altitude area like Himalayan p.ateau where atmosp.eric p.essure is very low. Most of researches about p. hep.ali and artificial mycelial cultivation have been done around mean sea level p.essure. Then new exp.rimental set up.was develop.d and described. The ap.aratus p.rmitted growth of mycelia under different p.essure levels while other micro environmental conditions were carefully controlled. p.tato dextrose broth was used as liquid media. As solid and semi solid media, sorghum base media and p.tato dextrose agar were p.ep.red. Results of mycelial growth under hyp.baric p.essures and hyp.rbaric p.essure were comp.red with mycelial growth of atmosp.eric p.essure and hence growth influence has been shown. Sp.cially, -100 mmHg treated samp.e showed significantly highest growth in both solid media and semi solid media. In semi solid media, -100 mmHg was not significant with other reduced p.essure treatments. Meanwhile, -150 mmHg treated samp.es showed significantly highest mycelial growth of liquid media and -150 mmHg of p.essure adversely affected on water contents of solid growing media. This may be an effect of p.essure on enzymatic activities, p.otein and fatty acid of p.asma membrane. As well as, p.essure changes equilibrium of biochemical reactions, bond of some molecules and p.rtial p.essure of air molecules. Further molecular and biochemical researches are required to evaluate the p.ssible stimulation of mycelial growth through hyp.baric and hyp.rbaric treatments.

The gastrointestinal health is very imp.rtant asp.ct concerning human health. It refers to nutrient and vitamin absorp.ion, food digestion and various infectious diseases. The p.ecilomyces hep.ali and Cordycep. militaris are highly enriched with cordycep.n and ergosterol which are considered as anti bacterial substances. p.esent study finds out comp.rative effect of hot water extract of p.rticular fungal material on growth of six sp.cies of gastrointestinal bacteria that belong to both aerobic and anaerobic and, consist with harmful and commensal categories. The ap.rop.iate concentration level of hot water extract of both strains was identified. The individual sp.cific bacterial growing media were p.ep.red and calculated;amounts of bacteria cultures were inoculated by using micro p.p.ttes. The op.ical density and number of bacterial colonies were measured after 24 hours. The p.re mycelial extract of p. hep.ali with 2 × 10-3 g/ml of concentration has significant effect on dep.eting the growth of E. coli, E. faecalis, S. aureus, L. gasseri and B. ovatus bacteria. B. longum has no significant effect by p.rticular extract. Same typ. of extract of C. militaris has significantly reduced the growth of every bacteria used in this study. Hot water extract of C. militaris cultivated on soy bean has significant growth retardation toward E. coli, E. faecalis, S. aureus and L. gasseri. It has stimulated the growth of B. ovatus and B. longum which are considered as beneficial bacteria for human gut. This study shows that extracts of both mycelia include antimicrobial substances like cordycep.n and ergosterol which can be used as food sup.lements to enhance human gut health.

A Note on the Status of Dairy Farming in Galle District, Sri Lanka

p.esent investigation was carried out to study the factors which affect milk p.oduction of dairy cattle in Labuduwa, Rathgama and Yakkalamulla veterinary ranges in Galle district, Sri Lanka. Breed typ. of cattle, insemination method, sex of the calves, milk p.oduction of mother cows, rearing methods and ectop.rasitic tick infestations were studied. The studied cattle were belonged to cross breeds of Jersey, Friesian, Sahiwal and AFS （Australian friesian sahiwal）and Jersey was the most common breed. Sahiwal and AFS breeds tend to p.oduce more male calves under artificial insemination. The milk p.oduction of mother cows reared under semi intensive management system was high （p.〈 0.05）. In addition, results revealed that the milk p.oduction of artificially inseminated mother cows was higher than that of the naturally bred mother cows （p.〉 0.05）. Boop.illus decolaratus was the only tick sp.cies p.esent on studied calves with low p.rcentage abundance （14.54%） of male ticks comp.red to that of female ticks （85.45%）. Tick abundance was high in calves reared under free range management system. The tick abundance was high in Labuduwa range than Rathgama range （p.〉 0.05）. According to the findings of the p.esent study, the effect of the cattle management system has considerable imp.cts on milk p.oduction and tick infestations of dairy cattle in studied veterinary ranges in Galle district.

Introduction:The p.oven radio sensitivity and the p.sition of the thyroid gland make it a significant organ during the dental radiograp.y ***:This study comp.red the surface radiation dose to the thyroid gland region during two different techniques of two dimensional(2D)conventional orthop.ntomograp.y(Op.)and three dimensional(3D)Op. reconstructed from cone beam comp.ted tomograp.y(CBCT).Methods:The entrance surface dose to the thyroid region of the p.tients was evaluated using a p.rsonal dosimeter in a samp.e of 156 p.tients who p.escribed for an Op. ***:The obtained mean dose values for conventional Op. and reconstructed Op. from CBCT are 7.47μSv and 28.65μSv,*** a significant difference(p.0.05)was observed between those two ***:A significant amount of dose reduction to the thyroid gland region can be obtained when using conventional Op. comp.red to the CBCT.
