germanene nanostrips(geNSs)have garnered significant attention in modern semiconductor technology due to their exceptional physical characteristics,positioning them as promising candidates for a wide range of *** exhibit a two-dimensional(buckled)honeycomb-like lattice,which is similar to germanene but with controllable *** modeling of geNSs is essential for developing appropriate synthesis methods as it enables understanding and controlling the growth process of these ***,one can adjust the strip width,which in turn can tune the bandgap and plasmonic response of the material to meet specific device *** this study,the objective is to investigate the electronic behav-ior and THz plasmon features of geNSs(≥100 nm wide).A semi-analytical model based on the charge-carrier velocity of free-standing germanene is utilized for this *** charge-carrier velocity of freestanding germanene is determined through the gW approximation(V_(F)=0.702×10^(6)m·s^(−1)).Within the width range of 100 to 500 nm,geNSs exhibit narrow bandgaps,typi-cally measuring only a few ***,upon analysis,it was found that the bandgaps of the investigated geNSs ranged between 29 and 6 *** well,these nanostrips exhibit√q-like plasmon dispersions,with their connected plasmonic fre-quency(≤30 THz)capable of being manipulated by varying parameters such as strip width,excitation plasmon angle,and sam-ple *** manipulations can lead to frequency variations,either increasing or decreasing,as well as shifts towards larger momentum *** outcomes of our study serve as a foundational motivation for future experiments,and further con-firmation is needed to validate the reported results.

Insects as alternative feed for ruminants:comparison of protein evaluation methods

Background:The high dependence of intensive ruminant production on soybean meal and the environmental impact of this crop encourage the search for alternative protein-rich *** use of insects seems promising,but the extent of their ruminal protein degradation is largely *** parameter has major influence not only on N utilization efficiency but also on the environmental burden of ruminant *** addition,although assessing ruminal N degradation represents a key first step to examine the potential of new feeds,it is a challenging task due to the lack of a reference *** study was conducted to investigate the potential of 4 insects(Tenebrio molitor,Zophobas morio,Alphitobius diaperinus and Acheta domesticus)as alternative protein sources for ruminants,using 3 methodologies:1)a regression technique based on the in vitro relationship between gas production and ammonia-N concentration;2)a conventional in vitro technique of batch cultures of ruminal microorganisms,based on filtering the incubation residue through sintered glass crucibles;and 3)the in situ nylon bag *** in vitro intestinal digestibility of the non-degraded protein in the rumen was also *** meal was used as a reference ***:comparison of evaluation methods(regression,in vitro and in situ)did not allow to reliably select a single value of ruminal N degradation for the studied substrates,but all techniques seem to establish a similar ranking,with good correlations between methods,particularly between regression and in situ *** of the methodology,nitrogen from the 4 insects(with contents ranging from 81 to 112 g/kg of dry matter)did not show high ruminal degradation(41–76%),this value being always lower than that of soybean ***,the in vitro intestinal digestibility of non-degraded N was relatively high in all feeds(≥64%).conclusion:overall,these results support the potential of the 4 studied insects as alternative feedstu

This review focuses on individual effects of major global change factors, such as elevated co2, o3, UV light and temperature, on plant secondary chemistry. These secondary metabolites are well-known for their role in plant defense against insect herbivory. global change effects on secondary chemicals appear to be plant species-specifc and dependent on the chemical type. Even though plant chemical responses induced by these factors are highly variable, there seems to be some specificity in the response to different environmental stressors. For example, even though the production of phenolic compounds is enhanced by both elevated co2 and UV light levels, the latter appears to primarily increase the concentrations of flavonoids. Likewise, specific phenolic metabolites seem to be induced by o3 but not by other factors, and an increase in volatile organic compounds has been particularly detected under elevated temperature. More information is needed regarding how global change factors influence inducibility of plant chemical defenses as well as how their indirect and direct effects impact insect performance and behavior, herbivory rates and pathogen attack. This knowledge is crucial to better understand how plants and their associated natural enemies will be affected in future changing environments.

In this paper we address the following question： What axe the sufficient conditions for a graph to have a vertex v such that d2（v） ≥ d（v）, where d（v） denotes the degree of v？ Among other results, every graph of minimum degree exactly 2, except four graphs, is shown to have a vertex of second order degree as large as its own degree. Moreover, every K4^--free graph or every maximal planar graph is shown to have a vertex v such that d2（v） ≥ d（v）. other sufficient conditions on graphs for guaranteeing this property axe also proved.

A fundamental(often neglected)lecture skill:presenting with credibility

Being credible as medical speakers is a fundamental quality to achieve. Although there are many factors that determine the credibility of a medical presenter, the way presentations are delivered (the lecture’s structure, visual aids, and the lecturer’s communication skills and engagement with the audience) will influence the effect speakers have on their audience and how credible people consider the lecturer, which will ultimately affect students’ learning. This perspective provides recommendations to increase speakers’ credibility through applying common presentation and communication principles in four domains: expertise and competence (e.g., know your audience, organize your presentation, introduce yourself, hold your arguments with evidence, avoid information overload, be prepared to answer questions), authenticity (be an accessible and honest speaker), personal presence (rehearse your presentation, get organized early, enjoy the moment), and dynamism (engage your audience, do not read your slides, explain the data, use images rather than text, avoid distracting your audience, ask and encourage questions).

We report the preparation of poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene)(PEDoT)-modified polyvinylidene fluoride electrospun fibers and their use as a novel adsorbent material for the removal of the anionic dye Methyl orange(Mo)from aqueous *** novel adsorbent material can be used to selectively remove Mo on a wide p H range(3.0-10.0),with a maximum capacity of 143.8 mg/g at p H *** used in a recirculating filtration system,the maximum absorption capacity was reached in a shorter time(20 min)than that observed for batch mode experiments(360 min).Based on the analyses of the kinetics and adsorption isotherm data,one can conclude that the predominant mechanism of interaction between the membrane and the dissolved dye molecules is ***,considering the estimated values for the gibbs energy,and entropy and enthalpy changes,it was established that the adsorption process is spontaneous and occurs in an endothermic *** good mechanical and environmental stability of these membranes allowed their use in at least 20 consecutive adsorption/desorption cycles,without significant loss of their *** suggest that the physical-chemical characteristics of PEDoT make these hybrid mats a promising adsorbent material for use in water remediation protocols and effluent treatment systems.

Surgical resection remains the only definitive treatment for colorectal liver metastasis(crLM). However, only a minority of cases are deemed resectable at the time of diagnosis. Early transmission dynamics of coVID-19 in a southern hemisphere setting:Lima-Peru:February 29^(th)-March 30^(th),2020

The coVID-19 pandemic that emerged in Wuhan china has generated substantial morbidity and mortality impact around the world during the last four *** daily trend in reported cases has been rapidly rising in Latin America since March 2020 with the great majority of the cases reported in Brazil followed by Peru as of April 15th,*** Peru implemented a range of social distancing measures soon after the confirmation of its first case on March 6th,2020,the daily number of new coVID-19 cases continues to accumulate in this *** assessed the early coVID-19 transmission dynamics and the effect of social distancing interventions in Lima,*** estimated the reproduction number,r,during the early transmission phase in Lima from the daily series of imported and autochthonous cases by the date of symptoms onset as of March 30th,*** also assessed the effect of social distancing interventions in Lima by generating short-term forecasts grounded on the early transmission dynamics before interventions were put in *** to the implementation of the social distancing measures in Lima,the local incidence curve by the date of symptoms onset displays near exponential growth dynamics with the mean scaling of growth parameter,p,estimated at 0.96(95%cI:0.87,1.0)and the reproduction number at 2.3(95%cI:2.0,2.5).our analysis indicates that school closures and other social distancing interventions have helped slow down the spread of the novel coronavirus,with the nearly exponential growth trend shifting to an approximately linear growth trend soon after the broad scale social distancing interventions were put in place by the *** the interventions appear to have slowed the transmission rate in Lima,the number of new coVID-19 cases continue to accumulate,highlighting the need to strengthen social distancing and active case finding efforts to mitigate disease transmission in the region.
