In past two decades earthquake disasters in the world have shown that significant damage occurred even when the buildings were designed as per the conventional earthquake-resistant design philosophy (force-based approach) exposing the inability of the codes to ensure minimum performance of the structures under design earthquake. The performance based seismic design (pBSD), evaluates how the buildings are likely to perform under a design earthquake. As compared to force-based approach, pBSD provides a methodology for assessing the seismic performance of a building, ensuring life safety and minimum economic losses. The non-linear static procedures also known as pushover analysis are used to analyze the performance of structure under lateral loads. pushover analysis gives pattern of the plastic hinge formations in structural members along with other structural parameters which directly show the performance of member after an earthquake event. In this paper, a four-storey RC building is modelled and designed as per IS 456:2000 and analyzed for life safety performance level in SAp2000 v17. Analysis is carried out as per ATC 40 to find out storey drift, pushover curve, capacity spectrum curve, performance point and plastic hinges as per FEMA 273 in SAp2000 v17. From the analysis, it is checked that the performance level of the building is as per the assumption.

We study the sunspot activity in relation to spotless days(SLDs)during the descending phase of solar cycles 11-24 to predict the amplitude of sunspot cycle *** this purpose,in addition to SLD,we also consider the geomagnetic activity(aa index)during the descending phase of a given cycle.A very strong correlation of the SLD(0.68)and aa index(0.86)during the descending phase of a given cycle with the maximum amplitude of next solar cycle has been *** empirical relationship led us to deduce the amplitude of cycle 25 to be 99.13±14.97 and 104.23±17.35 using SLD and aa index,respectively as *** the predictors provide comparable amplitude for solar cycle 25 and reveal that solar cycle 25 will be weaker than cycle ***,we predict that the maximum of cycle 25 is likely to occur between February and March *** the aa index has been utilized extensively in the past,this work establishes SLDs as another potential candidate for predicting the characteristics of the next cycle.

BaTiO3 thin film has been deposited on Si(100) substrate using sol-gel process and deposited by using spin – coating technique. The BaTiO3/Si(100) structures were studied by structural and electrical characteristics. The X-ray diffrac-tion of BaTiO3/Si(100) shows that the diffraction peaks become increasing sharp with increasing calcination tempera-tures indicating the enhance crystallinity of the films. Scanning electron microscopy of BaTiO3 thin films shows the crack free and uniform nature. The capacitance-voltage measurement of BaTiO3 thin film deposited on Si(100) an-nealed at 600℃ shows large frequency dispersion in the accumulation region. The current-voltage measurement of BaTiO3/Si shows the ideality factor was approaches to unity at 600℃.

Nanoparticles of Zn1-xCuxO system with nominal compositions x = 0.0, 0.01, 0.02 and 0.03 were prepared by co-precipitation method at room temperature. Structural, morphological, optical and chemical species of grown crystals were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), UV-visible and FTIR spectroscopy, respectively. XRD analysis confirms that all samples have hexagonal structure with no impurity phases which suggest that Cu ion successfully incorporated into the regular ZnO crystal structure. The lattice parameters, volume of unit cell, X-ray density, atomic packing fraction, c/a ratio, and grain size were calculated from XRD pattern of pure and Cu doped ZnO samples and it was found that the grain size was in the range of 23 nm to 29 nm. The strain in pure and Cu doped ZnO samples was calculated by W-H analysis. Optical properties of Zn1-xCuxO samples were studied by using UV-vis spectrophotometer. Optical absorption spectra show that the band gap decreases with increasing Cu contents. The functional group and chemical interactions of Zn1-xCuxO samples were also determined at various peaks using FTIR data and observed that the functional groups corresponding to the Zn-O bands in the samples. The photocatalytic activities of the samples were investigated by oxidation of methylene blue under UV light illumination in batch reactor. The scavenger study was carried out to find out main reactive species responsible for the degradation of dyes.

percutaneous administration of “Orthobiologics” offers the advantage of accelerated and functional recovery of musculoskeletal disorders. Stem cell optimizes the biological healing of diseases. The regenerative capacity of mesenchymal stem cells provides a pavement for clinicians to build up an organ of interest in vitro. Mesenchymal stem cells remain the perfect cell based tissue regeneration modality for treatment of musculoskeletal disorders in a minimally invasive environment without any significant morbidity. This article outlines the applications of mesenchymal stem cell administration in various musculoskeletal disorders.

Study on Complex Formation of Fluorescein-p-Sulfonatocalix[4]arene by Spectroscopic Methods

The aqueous solution of p-Sulfonatocalix[4]arene-fluorescein complex has been studied based on fluorescence and 1H NMR spectroscopic results. It has been found that the fluorescence intensity quenches regularly upon addition of p-SCX4. The proposed interaction mechanism between p-SCX4 and FL indicates that FL partially goes into the cavity of p-SCX4 with the help of strong electrostatic and π-π* interaction. The quenching constants and stability constants are determined by p-SCX4-FL systems. The proposed inclusion complex is discussed on 1H NMR results. Results are consistent with experimental data obtained from NMR spectroscopy.

Structural Characterization of Nanocrystalline La1-xSrxCrO3Thick Films for H2S gas Sensors

The nanocrystalline of La1-xSrxCrO3 (x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 & 0.4) were prepared by sol-gel method and their crystal structures & morphology were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). XRD patterns indicate that the average particle size of the nanocrystalline La0.7Sr0.3CrO3in the range of 30 - 35 nm. The gas sensing properties were studied towards reducing gases like Ammonia gas (NH3), liquefied petroleum gas (Lpg), hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and H2 gas and it is observed that undoped LaCrO3 shows response to H2S gas at relatively high operating temperature 300°C. The La1-xSrxCrO3 based sensor with x = 0.3 shows better sensitivity towards H2S gas at an operating temperature 210°C. The effect of Sr doping on sensitivity, response time and recovery time of the sensor in the presence of H2S and other reducing gases were studied and discussed.

Many applications do not fit well with the traditional best effort packet delivery policy of the Internet. These include applications such as Internet telephony and video conferencing which require voice and bulky graphical images transfer. Therefore, the policies of assigning traffic to various service classes and providing service as per the service level agreement of the user with the network provider came into existence. Multi-protocol Label Switching is the backbone of fast switching technology that helps the network service providers to implement these policies. It provides Quality of service oriented reserved paths from the source to the destination for the user’s traffic. Selection of these paths is a cumbersome task, especially when the traffic forecast is totally unknown. Furthermore, nodes and link failures in the Internet worsen the situation. This paper addresses the issue of selecting Label Switched paths (LSps) for various traffic demands in the network so that the resultant network has the characteristics like high failure resistance, low LSp demand blocking probability, low impact from the node or link failure, load balancing and low over-all resource utilization. By extensive simulations, the proposed cost function has been compared with the various cost functions mentioned in the literature and it was found to score over them in major aspects.
