The Fourth Symposium of Grand Challenges on HIV was held on December 28,2023,in Beijing,***-sheng wang(the National Clinical Research Center for Infectious Disease)and Zhang Linqi(Tsinghua University School of Medicine),as the chairpersons of the conference,organized this *** the conference,almost all famous top scientists and clinicians in Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome(AIDS)from China(Figure 1)were invited to present and discuss the most recent advances in the science of a cure for human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)and share new technologies,new therapies and new achievements,and hoping to make major breakthroughs in AIDS intervention and AIDS functional cure.

The safety and efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines in the elderly,a high-risk group for severe COVID-19 infection,have not been fully *** clarify these issues,this prospective study followed up 157 elderly and 73 young participants for 16 months and compared the safety,immunogenicity,and efficacy of two doses of the inactivated vaccine BBIBP-CorV followed by a booster dose of the recombinant protein vaccine *** results showed that this vaccination protocol was safe and tolerable in the *** administering two doses of the BBIBP-CorV,the positivity rates and titers of neutralizing and anti-RBD antibodies in the elderly were significantly lower than those in the young *** the ZF2001 booster dose,the antibody-positive rates in the elderly were comparable to those in the young;however,the antibody titers remained ***,age,and underlying diseases were independently associated with vaccine immunogenicity in elderly *** pseudovirus neutralization assay showed that,compared with those after receiving two doses of BBIBP-CorV priming,some participants obtained immunological protection against BA.5 and BF.7 after receiving the ZF2001 *** infection symptoms last longer in the infected elderly and pre-infection antibody titers were negatively associated with the severity of post-infection *** antibody levels in the elderly increased significantly after breakthrough infection but were still lower than those in the *** data suggest that multiple booster vaccinations at short intervals to maintain high antibody levels may be an effective strategy for protecting the elderly against COVID-19.

The aim of this consensus is to standardize the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic hepatitis B in children and to achieve the goal of “eliminating viral hepatitis as a major public health threat by 2030” issued by the World Health Organization. Formulated by organized experts of the Chinese Society of Infectious Diseases and Chinese Society of Hepatology, Chinese Medical Association;Group of Infectious Diseases, Chinese Pediatric Society, Chinese Medical Association;and the National Clinical Research Center for Infectious Diseases (Beijing), the consensus provides the latest evidence and recommendations for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic hepatitis B in children.

Previously,it was assumed that peripheral neutrophils are a homogeneous population that displays antimicrobial ***,recent data have revealed that neutrophils are heterogeneous and are additionally involved in tissue damage and immune *** phenotypic and functional plasticity of neutrophils has been identified in patients with cancer,inflammatory disorders,infections,and other ***,neutrophils,with their autocrine,paracrine,and immune modulation functions,have been shown to be involved in liver diseases,including viral hepatitis,nonalcoholic steatohepatitis,alcoholic liver disease,liver fibrosis,cirrhosis,liver failure,and liver ***,this review summarizes the role of neutrophils in liver diseases.

Hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） is the fifth most prevalent malignancy worldwide, and it accounts for 85-90% ot all primary liver cancers. Owing to the limited therapeutic options available, the 5-year survival rate remains relatively low for patients with HCC. The development of HCC is a multistage process1 that involves changes in the expression of multiple oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes and microRNAs that are involved in the cell cycle, as well as in cell growth, apoptosis, migration and tumor metastasis.2,3 Finding an accurate biomarker that can predict HCC progression is import- ant for clinicians to be able to determine the optimal therapeutic strategy.

Liver fibrosis and its end-stage consequence, cirrhosis, represent the final common pathway of virtually all chronic liver diseases. Research into hepatic stellate cell activation, imbalance of the extracellular matrix synthesis and degradation and the contribution of cytokines and chemokines has further elucidated the mechanisms underlying fibrosis. furthermore, clarification of changes in host adaptive and innate immune systems has accelerated our understanding of the association between liver inflammation and fibrosis. Continued elucidation of the mechanisms of hepatic fibrosis has provided a comprehensive model of fibrosis progression and regression. This review summarizes the current concepts of improvements that have been made in the field of fibrosis.

Hepatitis B virus （HBV） has a unique rela- tionship with humans. It is not only very suc- cessful in spreading amongst our species （a third of the human population has been in contact with the virus and approximately 200-300 million people are actively infected）, but it has adapted to and co-evolved with us. This long-term relationship is demonstrated by the recent detection of hepadnavirus gen- omes in Mesozoic birds2 and by the estima- tion that HBV was already present in early humans at least 40, 000 years ago.3

Liver disease encompasses a wide variety of liver conditions, including liver failure, liver cirrhosis and a spectrum of acute and chronic hepatitis, such as alcoholic, fatty, drug, viral and chronic hepatitis. Liver injury is a primary causative factor in liver disease; generally, these factors include direct liver damage and immune-mediated liver injury. Neutrophils （also known as neutrophilic granulocytes or polymorphonuclear leukocytes （PMNs）） are the most abundant circulating white blood cell type in humans, and PMNs are a major innate immune cell subset. Inappropriate activation and homing of neutrophils to the microvasculature contributes to the pathological manifestations of many types of liver disease. This review summarizes novel concepts of neutrophil-mediated liver iniurv that are based on current clinical and animal model studies.
