The Aging Bladder in Females Evaluated by Urodynamics

Aim: To determine whether bladder functions deteriorate with age. Methods: Data contained in electronic medical record (INFOMED?) were used in this institutional retrospective review. Analysis was done on the urodynamic studies in women over 18 years old conducted between May 2011 and November 2015. Patients with previous history of pelvic surgery or radiotherapy, neurological disease, vaginal prolapse greater than grade I, congenital urogenital malformations, urinary obstructive disease, diabetes, or the use of any medication that could interfere with bladder function were excluded from the analysis. The urodynamic parameters analyzed were the Maximum cystometric capacity (Mcc), Voiding Volume (VV), Maximum Flow (Qmax), Bladder compliance (Bc), Detrusor Pressure at Maximum Flow (PdetQmax), Bladder contractility Index (BcI), Bladder Voiding Efficiency (BVE) and Post-Void Residual Urine Volume (PVR). Patients were further stratified in five groups according to age (A—18 to 40;B—41 to 50;c—51 to 60;D—61 to 70;E—over 70 years old). Results: Out of 3103 urodynamic studies analyzed, 719 were eligible for the study. The average age of patients was 49.3 (+13.2) years old and in all evaluated parameters, statistically significant correlation between age and decline of bladder function was obtained (p conclusions: This study showed a decline in bladder storage function (reduction in Mcc and Bc) and in bladder emptying function (reduction in Qmax, PdetQmax, VV, BcI and BVE with an increase in PVR) with age.

Nanomineralogy of evaporative precipitation of efflorescent compounds from coal mine drainage

Efflorescent nanophases(NPs) are found as a transitory accumulation of potentially hazardous elements(PHEs),particularly in tropical climates. The central objective of this study was to investigate the distribution of PHEs with NPs through the evaporative formation structures(EFS) of enormously PHEs-rich coal-mine drainages(cMD). The EFS were studied in natural coal mine drainage for five months in order to determine their geochemical and ecological structures and to assess their position in the reduction of PHEs in nature. The largest coal-fired power plant in South America, located in south Brazil, is used as an example of such a problem. In this work, a novel methodology for the analysis of PHEs in cMD precipitates is proposed for this affected coal *** analytical method, combining X-Ray Diffraction(XRD) and advanced electron microscopies, shows the importance of nanomineralogy in understanding different circumstances of coal contamination. Several ultrafinenanoparticles(UNPs) were identified in the sampled soils and river sediments together with the PHEs. A decrease in PHEs was identified in association with UNPs. However, further investigations are required with regard to the mobility of PHEs in water, atmosphere, soils, and sediments. The EPS was thoroughly studied, acquiring suitable understanding with investigational facts for ca and Fe-sulphates, pickeringite, and several amorphous phases.

Long term immunological perturbations post DAA therapy in chronic HcV/HIV co-infected patients

Direct-acting antiviral(DAA)therapies are efficacious for the achievement of sustained virologic response(SVR)in almost all treated hepatitis c virus(HcV)-infected ***,the impacts of HcV eradication on immune function and chronic immune activation in the long-term remain controversial and limited,especially in patients co-infected with human immunodeficiency virus(HIV).Indeed,although restoration of many immune responses clearly can be observed,several features of immune perturbations persist over time after HcV *** the degree and reasons of the partial recovery of the immune system in chronic HcV/HIV coinfection after HcV elimination is pivotal to avoid disease progression and possible long-term clinical outcomes in cured patients,as well as contributing to the development of immunotherapy drug design.

Sudden openings and gradual closures in canopy cover modulate acclimation,survival,and growth of a shade-tolerant rainforest tree species

Forest disturbances at gap levels are one of the most important events for the regeneration and establishment of intermediate tree *** canopy openings expose plants to high light intensity and high evaporative demands that stress shade-acclimated ***,the slow closure of gaps reduces light availability to plants established when the incident irradiation was *** work evaluated the morphological and physiological acclimation of cabralea canjerana(Vell)*** to sudden and to gradual changes in canopy cover.A pot experiment was carried out with plants exposed to a sudden opening.A few days after the light shock,plants rapidly increased photosynthetic rates and decreased leaf water *** two months,plants activated physiological responses at leaf and whole plant levels to high light and water stresses,e.g.,increased stoma-tal conductance,stomatal index and reduction of leaf:fine roots ratio and *** seven months,hydraulic conductivity of petioles and the whole leaf increased,and growth was much higher than plants that remained under the *** a field experiment in gaps in the rainforest,plants acclimated to all canopy *** years after planting,growth was maximum in open environments within the gaps,even if the canopy closed during the first 20 months after *** conclusion,if this species is planted to enrich the rainforest,positions within gaps with lower canopy cover should be chosen and gap closure will not affect *** manage *** natural regeneration,the opening of gaps and removal of understory will increase survival and growth without the risk that the stress caused by these sudden openings could lead to the death of ***-bining pot and field experiments helps to understand the autecology of trees with particular ecological interest,and to build sound restoration practices.

Duplex stainless steels are being used on applications that require,especially,high corrosion resistance and overall good mechanical properties,such as the naval and oil-gas exploration *** components employed in these industries are usually obtained by machining,however,these alloys have low machinability when compared to conventional stainless *** this work,a study of the wear developed when milling duplex stainless-steel,LDX 2101,is going to be presented and evaluated,employing four types of milling tools with different geometries and coatings,while studying the influence of feed rate and cutting length in the wear of these *** used have been provided with two and four flutes,as well as three different coatings,namely:TiAlN,TiAlSiN and *** cutting behavior of these tools was analyzed;data relative to the cutting forces developed during the process were obtained;and roughness measurements of the machined surfaces were *** tools were then submitted to scanning electron microscope(SEM)analysis,enabling the identification of the wear mechanisms that tools were subjected to when machining this material,furthermore,the early stages of these mechanisms were also *** this work was done with the goal of relating the machining parameters and cutting force values obtained,identifying,and discussing the wear patterns that were observed in the coating and tools after the milling tests,providing further information on the machining of these alloys.

Mg-Zn-Zr(ZK)alloys exhibit notably high mechanical strength amongst all magnesium alloy ***,due to the formation of low melting point Mg_3Zn_7-precipitates,these alloys are susceptible to hot cracking,thus compromising their metallurgical *** addition of rare earths to ZK alloys is an alternative to form higher melting point intermetallic compounds,speed up dynamic recrystallization,refine grain size,enhance corrosion resistance and extend the service temperature due to improved creep *** work deals with the effect of ce-base mischmetal addition on the hot rolling behaviour of as-cast ZK60 *** microstructure investigation conducted using electron microscopy and X-Ray diffraction shows that precipitation of Mg_(7)Zn_(3) intermetallics occur during hot rolling,whereas no further precipitation is observed for the ZK60-Mm *** fragmentation of the intermetallic compounds occur during hot rolling and finer particles of Mg_(7)Zn_(3) are observed for the ZK60,whereas Mg_(7)Zn_(3) and Mg Zn_(2) ce intermetallics are formed in the alloy modified with mischmetal addition.A higher fraction of dynamically recrystallized grains is observed for the ZK60-Mm in comparison to the *** recrystallization takes place in ZK60 with the formation of sub-grains near to the intermetallics and the addition of mischmetal promotes the occurrence of discontinuous recrystallization with the nucleation of new grains close to the *** mechanical strength and,in particular,the ductility of the hot-rolled alloys are notably improved when compared to the same alloys in the as-cast *** mechanical strength is,however,higher for the ZK60 *** solid solution strengthening,softer Mg Zn_(2) ce intermetallics and more extensive recrystallization contribute to reduce the mechanical strength of *** in both alloys are initiated at coarse intermetallics and propagate through intermetallic-rich regions.

Dental treatment of twin monozygotic brothers with Fragile X syndrome

Fragile X syndrome (FXS) is the main cause of inherited mental retardation and is the result of transcriptional silencing of the fragile X mental retardation gene FMR1. An absence of the associated protein FMRP leads to the deregulation of many genes, which results in phenotypes of Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), anxiety, epilepsy and autism. The aim of this article is to report the clinical case of twin siblings affected by FXS and to describe the procedures for dental treatment with intravenous sedation. Information regarding the characteristic manifestations of FXS not only aided in the handling of the patients but also enabled us to develop clinical programs to promote and maintain oral health using individualized and specific dental procedures.

Air pollution has become a major problem in urban areas due to increasing industrialization and *** this study ambient concentrations of PM1 and metal concentrations as well as source contributions were identified and quantified by using Positive Matrix Factorization(PMF)in receptor modeling in the Metropolitan Area of Porto Alegre,*** PM1 samples were collected on PTFE filters from December 2012 to December 2014 in two sampling *** ion and trace element concentrations were *** average concentrations were 12.8 and 15.2μg/m^(3) for canoas and Sapucaia do Sul sites,*** ion contributions of PM1 were secondary pollutants such as sulfate and *** elements,especially cu,Pb,Zn,cd,and Ni also made important contributions which are directly associated with anthropogenic *** results show significantly higher levels in winter than in *** of the PM1 and the analyzed PM species and elements originated from anthropogenic sources,especially road traffic,combustion processes and industrial activities,which are grouped in 7 major contributing sources.A back-trajectory analysis showed that the long-range transport of pollutants was not relevant in relation to the contribution to PM1 and metal *** work highlights the importance of urban planning to reduce human health exposure to traffic and industrial emissions,combined with awareness-raising actions for citizens concerning the impact of indoor sources.
