Objectives:Persistent olfactory dysfunction(od)following loss of sm.ll associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection is a m.jor feature of long *** on the prevalence of persistent od predom.nantly rely on self-reported olfactory *** studies have tracked longitudinal rates of recovery using psychophysical assessm.nt am.ng patients presenting for evaluation of persistent od beyond a window of acute *** anchored in standardized testing m.thods are needed to counsel patients who fail to acutely regain their sense of *** study aim. to quantify the degree of persistent od in post-COVID-19 patients who experience subjective and psychophysical ***:we grouped participants presenting for od evaluation into cohorts based on both subjective and psychophysical olfactory status at a baseline assessm.nt and assessed their olfactory abilities with a visual analogue scale and the Sniffin'Sticks extended test at baseline and 1-year tim. *** had confirm.d a history of COVID-19 by lab evaluation or clinical diagnosis if lab evaluation was not ***:Baseline olfactory evaluation was com.leted by 122 participants,53 of whom.com.leted the 1-year follow-up *** participants presenting with perceived od,74.5%had confirm.d psychophysical od at baseline,with 55.1%at 1-year *** had reliable trends in self-rated versus psychophysically tested olfactory function at both tim. *** total threshold,discrim.nation,and identification(TDI)score im.roved by+3.25 points in the cohort with psychophysical od(p=0.0005),with this im.rovem.nt largely attributable to an increase in m.dian threshold scores(+2.75 points;p=0.0004).Conclusions:od persists in a significant num.er of patients who fail to acutely recovery their sense of sm.ll after COVID-19,with m.ny dem.nstrating lingering deficits at *** in threshold,but not discrim.nation or identification,m.st significantly m.diate im.rovem.nt

Objective:To assess the im.unopotentiality of Ayurvedic polyherbal preparations,"Saribadi" and "Anantam.l Salsa".m.thods: Freshly prepared BALB/c m.ce splenocytes were cultured with "Saribadi" or"Anantam.l Salsa" treatm.nt [doses of 0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75%, 1.00%, 1.50%, 2.00%,3.00% and 4.00%(v/v)] at 37C for 5 days. The im.unoglobulin m.Igm. production and lym.hocytes proliferation were determ.ned by ELISA and m.T m.thods, *** contam.nation was assessed by treating the preparations with polym.xin ***: The doses of "Saribadi" [0.25%, 0.50%, 0.75% and 1.00%(v/v)] significantly increased Igm.productions(0.966, 0.728, 0.695 and 0.615 m./m.L vs. control 0.265 m./m.L)and lym.hocytes proliferation [absorbance 0.311, 0.394, 0.372 and 0.334 optical density(od) vs. control 0.162 od]. Sim.larly, the doses of "Anantam.l Salsa" [0.50%, 0.75%,1.00% and 1.50%(v/v)] prom.ted Igm.productions(0.933, 0.919, 0.917 and 0.892 m./m.L vs. control 0.502 m./m.L) and the doses of "Anantam.l Salsa" [0.50%, 0.75%, 1.00%,1.50%, 2.00%, and 3.00%(v/v)] stim.lated lym.hocytes proliferation(absorbance 0.395,0.326, 0.440, 0.398, 0.452 and 0.355 od vs. control 0.199 od). The activity of "Saribadi"and "Anantam.l Salsa" was not retarded by the treatm.nt of preparations with polym.xin ***: Im.unom.dulatory activity of "Saribadi" and "Anantam.l Salsa" was unveiled for the first tim.. "Saribadi" and "Anantam.l Salsa" possess im.unostim.lating potential acting through the induction of lym.hocyte proliferation and Igm.*** preparations m.y be useful in strengthening im.une responses. Trace analysis of volatile organic com.ounds(VOCs) during wildfires is im.erative for environm.ntal and health risk assessm.nt. The use of gas sam.ling devices m.unted on unm.nned aerial vehicles(UAVs) to chem.cally sam.le air during wildfires is of great interest because these devices m.ve freely about their environm.nt, allowing for m.re representative air sam.les and the ability to sam.le areas dangerous or unreachable by hum.ns. This work presents chem.cal data from.air sam.les obtained in Davis, CA during the m.st destructive wildfire in California's history-the 2018 Cam. Fire – as well as the deploym.nt of our sam.ling device during a controlled experim.ntal fire while fixed to a UAV. The sam.ling m.chanism.was an in-house m.nufactured m.cro-gas preconcentrator(μPC) em.edded onto a com.act battery-operated sam.ler that was returned to the laboratory for chem.cal analysis. Com.ounds com.only observed in wildfires were detected during the Cam. Fire using gas chrom.tography m.ss spectrom.try(GC–m.), including BTEX(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, m.+ p-xylene, and o-xylene), benzaldehyde, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, naphthalene, 1,2,3-trim.thylbenzene and 1-ethyl-3-m.thylbenzene. Concentrations of BTEX were calculated and we observed that benzene and toluene were highest with average concentrations of 4.7 and 15.1 μg/m.(3), respectively. Num.rous fire-related com.ounds including BTEX and aldehydes such as octanal and nonanal were detected upon experim.ntal fire ignition, even at a m.ch sm.ller sam.ling tim. com.ared to sam.les taken during the Cam. Fire. Analysis of the air sam.les taken both stationary during the Cam. Fire and m.bile during an experim.ntal fire show the successful operation of our sam.ler in a fire environm.nt.

Both m.trix biochem.stry and neurotrophic factors are known to m.dulate neurite outgrowth and pathifnding; however, the interplay between these two factors is less studied. while previous work has shown that the biochem.cal identity of the m.trix can alter the outgrowth of neurites in response to neurotrophins, the im.ortance of the concentration of cell-adhesive ligands is unknown. Using engineered elastin-like protein m.trices, we recently dem.nstrated a synergistic effect between m.trix-bound cell-adhesive ligand density and soluble nerve growth factor treat-m.nt on neurite outgrowth from.dorsal root ganglia. This synergism.was m.diated by Schwann cell-neurite contact through L1CAm. Cell-adhesive ligand density was also shown to alter the pathifnding behavior of dorsal root ganglion neurites in response to a gradient of nerve growth factor. while m.re cell-adhesive m.trices prom.ted neurite outgrowth, less cell-adhesive m.-trices prom.ted m.re faithful neurite pathifnding. These studies em.hasize the im.ortance of considering both m.trix biochem.stry and neurotrophic factors when designing biom.terials for peripheral nerve regeneration.

Context: Childhood eye health is a real public health problem.in our context, the consequences of which go beyond vision, affecting education, social participation and future econom.c productivity. The aim.was to study the frequency of ocular surgical pathologies in children aged 0 to 15 years. Patients and m.thodius: This study covered a 4 years period from.January 1, 2016 to Decem.er 31, 2020. It was a retrospective study of a descriptive and analytical nature. It concerned all children aged 0 to 15 who had undergone surgery for ocular pathology during the study period and who were included in the operating room.register. Results: Out of 4974 patients of all ages operated for ocular surgical pathology, 124 were children aged 0 to 15 years or 2.49%. The 9 - 12 age group was the m.st represented with 29.03%;the m.an age was 7.3 years ± 4.6 with extrem.s of 3 m.nths and 15 years. A m.le predom.nance was observed at 62.90%. Pathologies of the lens, cataract and eyelids, traum.tic edem. represented the m.st frequent eye conditions in our patients with respectively 51 cases or 41.13% in the right eye (od), 54 cases or 53.55% in the left eye (OG) and 14 cases or 11.29% in od and OG followed by endem.c lim.oconjunctivitis of the tropics (LCET), 10 cases or 3.23%, in od and hem.rrhage under conjunctival 13 cases or 10.48% in OG. Cataract surgery with the Technique m.nuel Sm.ll Incision Cataract Surgery + Im.lantation in the posterior cham.er (m.ICS + ICP) was the m.st used in 74% of cases. General anesthesia was the m.st widely used anesthetic m.thod in 100% of cases. The clinical course was favorable at 45.97%. Conclusion: we note a relatively low hospital frequency of ocular surgical pathologies in children, with a m.le predom.nance. The early consultation period and the im.rovem.nt of the technical platform.could im.rove their m.nagem.nt.
