Investigating the Effects of Interface Topology on Flow Development in Rod Bundle Supported by Spacer Grid with Split Mixing Vane Using STAR-CCM+

Flow development downstream of a spacer grid is dependent on the upstream conditions and the imposed interface topology, especially at inlet and outlet boundaries. In STAR-CCM+, all interfaces fall into two groups, direct and indirect. A direct interface directly joins together two boundaries composing the interface either permanently or temporarily, for the case of rigid body motion. An explicit connection is created between cells on each side of the interface, so that mass and energy or either of them will occur across the interface. Three options of interface topology namely, in-place, periodic and repeating are available to be imposed at the inlet-outlet boundaries for a flow problem. In the present work, computational fluid dynamic simulation using STAR-CCM+ was performed for the flow of water at a bundle’s Reynolds number of Re1 = 3.4 × 104 through a 5 × 5 rod bundle geometry supported by spacer grid with and without split mixing vanes for which the rod-to-rod pitch to diameter ratio was 1.33 and the rod to wall pitch to diameter ratio was 0.74. The two-layer k-epsilon turbulence model with an all y+ automatic wall treatment function in STAR-CCM+ was adopted for an isothermal single phase (water) flow through the geometry with and without imposed cyclic periodic interface boundary condition of fully developed flow type at inlet and outlet boundaries. The objectives were to primarily investigate the extent of predictability of the experimental data by the Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) simulation as a measure of reliability on the CFD code employed, and also study the effects of the imposed interface topology on flow redistribution in the presence and absence of split mixing vane. Validation of simulation results with experimental data showed a good correlation of mean flow parameters with experimental data. This study focused on the characterization of digestates resulting from anaerobic digestion of manioc effluents from attiéké factories. Two types of digestate were characterized, one consisting of manioc effluent + urine and another composed of manioc effluent + urine + cow dung. As a result, these residues of bio-digestion rich in nutrients (NPK) can be used as agricultural fertilizer. Moreover, the determination of some microorganisms and heavy metals digestates allowed to better appreciate its fertilizing quality. These parameters remained in accordance with the quality standards of a digestate prescribed. These results show that digestates from anaerobic co-digestion of manioc effluents, urine and cow dung can be used without fear as an agricultural biofertilizer.

The purpose of this article is to compare the quality of three edible oils derived from palm oil in Daloa’s city. The methodological approach of the article includes, on the one hand, a field survey determining the most used oils and the number of frying carried out by the attieké-fish sellers. On the other hand, the physico-chemical parameters (refractive index, iodine index, saponification index, acid index and peroxide index) of these oils were determined. As a result, the most used oils are A, B and C and are heated at least 3 times by the attieké-fish sellers. After repeated heating, the values of the peroxide, saponification, refraction, iodine indices of oils A and B do not match those of the codex with the exception of the acid value. For oil C, only the acid and iodine indices correspond to the codex standards. Overall, the results of the study clearly show that the repeated heating of these oils has an influence on the different physico-chemical properties studied.

Chromosome segregation in mitosis is orchestrated by the interaction of the kinetochore with spindle microtubules. Ourrecent study shows that NEK2A interacts with MAD1 at the kinetochore and possibly functions as a novel integrator ofspindle checkpoint signaling. However, it is unclear how NEK2 A regulates kinetochore-microtubule attachment in *** we show that NEK2A phosphorylates human Sgol and such phosphorylation is essential for faithful chromosomecongression in mitosis. NEK2A binds directly to HsSgol in vitro and co-distributes with HsSgol to the kinetochore ofmitotic cells. Our in vitro phosphorylation experiment demonstrated that HsSgol is a substrate of NEK2A and the phos-phorylation sites were mapped to Ser14and Ser507as judged by the incorporation of32P. Although such phosphorylation isnot required for assembly of HsSgol to the kinetochore, expression of non-phosphorylatable mutant HsSgol perturbedchromosome congression and resulted in a dramatic increase in microtubule attachment errors, including syntelic andmonotelic attachments. These findings reveal a key role for the NEK2A-mediated phosphorylation of HsSgol in orches-trating dynamic kinetochore-microtubule interaction. We propose that NEK2 A-mediated phosphorylation of human Sgolprovides a link between centromeric cohesion and spindle microtubule attachment at the kinetochores.

This study focused on the transfer of experimental results of anaerobic digestion of liquid waste from an attiéké (steamed cassava semolina) factory to a 6 m3 pilot digester. The experimental digester and the pilot were powered as follows: Lw + U + C (liquid waste + urine + cow dung). To the results, the experimental digester mesophilic with a progressive elimination of COD. Also, the nitrogen concentrations in the experimental reactor had little removal with alkaline pH. As for the biogas product in this digester, a volume of 3.6 m3 was obtained with a positive flammability test. The transition from the laboratory scale to the semi-industrial scale retains the results of purification and fuel biogas production of the experimental digester.

The threat of agro-industrial exploitations on the quality of groundwater resources has become a major concern for the world’s population, mainly in agricultural areas. To solve this problem, several methods such as vulnerability to pollutants and statistics methods, have been adopted to protect these groundwaters. In this study, statistical tests were used to determine the likely source of pollutants in the groundwater resources. First, we made a comparative analysis and then analyzed pollutants parameters using Kohonen self-organizing map (SOM) which allows basic on the similarity to help out any correlation between the physic-chemical parameters. To validate these results, a land use map was developed to identify the sources of pollutants in production functions of different activities taking place on the catchment area. The results indicate very high levels of certain pollutants such as NO3-, Cl- and SO42- with generally higher than World Health Organization (WHO) standards values. These high levels observed could be attributed to the generally free nature of aquifers alteration and sedimentary formations in areas of high agro-industrial production. The analysis of the data from SOM method reveals a strong correlation between pollutants (NO3-, SO42-,Cl- ) and conductivity showing the likely origin of these surface pollutants,an origin that is linked to the existence of larges agro-industrials exploitations. These results are reinforced by those of the overlay map of the sampling sites on the land use map, which shows a strong coincidence between high values of pollutants and production areas of the pollutants that are agro-industrial exploitations. These areas of coincidence are observed in the north where found banana’s industrials plantations that are less visible and mostly in the southwest part where is one of the largest oil palm plantations in the world (36,000 hectares).
