Ischemic brain injury occurs when the metabolic needs of brain tissue cannot be met due to insufficient blood supply to the brain.It is one of the main causes of death and adult disability worldwide.The recurrence rate of ischemic brain injury is high.It places a heavy economic burden on families and society,and seriously affects human health and quality of life.In traditional Chinese medicine,ischemic stroke belongs to the category of“stroke”.The use of traditional Chinese medicine to treat stroke has a long history.After years of experimental research,a large amount of theoretical knowledge and practical experience have been accumulated.Promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis is the basis of traditional Chinese medicine theory on the treatment of ischemic stroke.Commonly used single Chinese medicines include Chuangxiong(Ligusticum chuanxiong hort),Danggui(Angelica sinensis),Danshen(Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge),Honghua(Carthamus tinctorius L.),Mudanpi(Moutan Cortex),and Huangqi(Astragali Radix).Buyang Huanwu decoction,Xinglou Chengqi decoction,Taohong Siwu decoction,and other traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions are believed to have a protective effect against brain damage caused by ischemic stroke.With the development of modern medical technology,the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicine treatments for ischemic brain injury has gradually been explored.This article reviews the mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine’s protection against ischemic brain injury and its current clinical application.

Prevention of nausea,vomiting and reflux aspiration in two cases of painless hysteroscopy

Objective:To investigate the prevention and management of perioperative nausea and vomiting and reflux aspiration in painless hysteroscopy patients.Methods:The clinical datum of one patient with reflux and postoperative vomiting and another one with a history of multiple postoperative nausea and vomiting during painless hysteroscopy were retrospectively analyzed.Results:In case 1,despite the occurrence of reflux,no significant aspiration or other serious consequences occurred through positive attraction,ondansetron,dexamethasone,droperidol and other drugs and candy treatment,then nausea and vomiting gradually eased.In case 2,due to the reduction of preoperative dosage of sufentanil,prophylactic application of ondansetron,psychological intervention and postoperative candy,no nausea and vomiting occurred during the painless hysteroscopy.The patient recovered quickly with high satisfaction.Conclusion:Patients with a high risk of nausea and vomiting may be ameliorated by positive psychological and drug intervention.Even if patients have intraoperative reflux and postoperative nausea and vomiting,it can be relieved by psychological and drug treatment,and the occurrence of serious complications such as aspiration can be prevented.

Aim:In this review,it will mainly focus on clarifying the pharmacology of dexmedetomidine and discussing the past,present and future clinical applications of dexmedetomidine as an adjunct in anesthesia.Method:We have searched and reviewed the articles about the use of dexmedetomidine in clinical anesthesia,intensive care unit(ICU),painless gastroenteroscopy and painless labor over the past two decades.Recent findings:Dexmedetomidine,a highly selective agonist of alpha2-adrenergic receptors(alpha2-AR),was primarily approved by the U.S.Food and Drug Administration(FDA)for sedation in ICU due to its pharmacological characteristics with sedative,analgesic and sympatholytic effects.These properties make up the limitations of anesthetics,and it produces a“dexmedetomidine assisted”anesthesia mode as an adjuvant combining with other anesthesia methods,which are all termed as“DEX+”.These new methods can reduce the anesthetics requirement but prolong the action period and alleviate the adverse reactions of anesthetics,thus improving the anesthesia more effectively and safely.Summary:Dexmedetomidine possesses the unique properties exerting synergistic effects and alleviating the side effects as an adjuvant in anesthesia through different administration routes.It is beneficial for the patients’long-term outcome and will be bound to be the leading innovator of anesthesia in future.

Stability analysis of a liquid crystal elastomer self-oscillator under a linear temperature field

Self-oscillating systems abound in the natural world and offer substantial potential for applications in controllers,micro-motors,medical equipments,and so on.Currently,numerical methods have been widely utilized for obtaining the characteristics of self-oscillation including amplitude and frequency.However,numerical methods are burdened by intricate computations and limited precision,hindering comprehensive investigations into self-oscillating systems.In this paper,the stability of a liquid crystal elastomer fiber self-oscillating system under a linear temperature field is studied,and analytical solutions for the amplitude and frequency are determined.Initially,we establish the governing equations of self-oscillation,elucidate two motion regimes,and reveal the underlying mechanism.Subsequently,we conduct a stability analysis and employ a multi-scale method to obtain the analytical solutions for the amplitude and frequency.The results show agreement between the multi-scale and numerical methods.This research contributes to the examination of diverse self-oscillating systems and advances the theoretical analysis of self-oscillating systems rooted in active materials.

Effects of acid mine drainage on photochemical and biological degradation of dissolved organic matter in karst river water

Dissolved organic matter(DOM)can be removed or transformed by photochemical and biological processes,producing the negative effect of transforming organic carbon into inorganic carbon,which plays a vital role in the karst carbon cycle.However,acid mine drainage(AMD)will affect this process,so the degradation of DOM in karst river water(KRW)needs to be studied in this context.In this study,to reveal the evolution processes of DOM under photochemical and biological conditions in AMD-impacted KRW,AMD and KRW were mixed in different ratios under conditions of visible light irradiation(VL),biodegradation(BD),ultraviolet irradiation(UV)and ultraviolet irradiation+biodegradation(UV+BD).The average DOC concentrations in samples after mixing AMD and KRW in different proportions decreased significantly(by 23%)in UV+BD,which was 1.2–1.4 times higher than under the other conditions and would lead to a significant release of inorganic carbon.Further analysis of the fluorescence parameters via parallel factor analysis(PARAFAC)revealed that the DOM fluorescence components in AMD comprised mainly protein-like substances derived from autochthonous components,while the DOM fluorescence components in KRW were mainly humic-like substances with both autochthonous and allochthonous sources.Therefore,AMD could promote both the photochemical and biological degradation of DOM in karst receiving streams,resulting in the conversion of DOC to inorganic carbon.The results showed that the synergistic effects of UV+BD and AMD accelerated the degradation of DOM and the release of inorganic carbon in KRW,thus affecting the stability of the karst carbon cycle.

Alkyl chlorides are abundant and easily accessible starting materials.However,due to the high reduction potentials associated with unactivated alkyl chlorides,achieving their single electron reduction remains a persistent challenge.This challenge has spurred the exploration of efficient activation methods to overcome this issue.In recent years,photocatalysis has emerged as a mild and potent tool for the single electron reduction of unactivated alkyl chlorides,opening up new possibilities in this field.Considering the rapid advancements in this area,a comprehensive review that provides a conceptual understanding of this emerging field,with a specific focus on reaction design and catalytic mechanisms,would be timely and highly valuable.Hence,we present an overview of various synthetic techniques for photoinduced single electron reduction of unactivated alkyl chlorides.Furthermore,we also discuss the limitations of the present methods and future directions that lie ahead in this field.

Cav3.2 channel regulates cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury:a promising target for intervention

Calcium influx into neurons triggers neuronal death during cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.Various calcium channels are involved in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.Cav3.2 channel is a main subtype of T-type calcium channels.T-type calcium channel blockers,such as pimozide and mibefradil,have been shown to prevent cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury-induced brain injury.However,the role of Cav3.2 channels in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury remains unclear.Here,in vitro and in vivo models of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury were established using middle cerebral artery occlusion in mice and high glucose hypoxia/reoxygenation exposure in primary hippocampal neurons.The results showed that Cav3.2 expression was significantly upregulated in injured hippocampal tissue and primary hippocampal neurons.We further established a Cav3.2 gene-knockout mouse model of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.Cav3.2 knockout markedly reduced infarct volume and brain water content,and alleviated neurological dysfunction after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.Additionally,Cav3.2 knockout attenuated cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury-induced oxidative stress,inflammatory response,and neuronal apoptosis.In the hippocampus of Cav3.2-knockout mice,calcineurin overexpression offset the beneficial effect of Cav3.2 knockout after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.These findings suggest that the neuroprotective function of Cav3.2 knockout is mediated by calcineurin/nuclear factor of activated T cells 3 signaling.Findings from this study suggest that Cav3.2 could be a promising target for treatment of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Niobium oxide(Nb_(2)O_(5))is a promising material in photocatalytic,solar cell,electronic like electron field emitters,and especially lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)because of its adjustable morphologies,controllable crystal type,stable structure,and environmental friendliness.However,its low electrical conductivity lowers the rate performance and limits the practical applications in LIBs.Herein,we present a one-step solid-state synthesis of orthogonal Nb_(2)O_(5) nanocrystals/graphene composites(Nb_(2)O_(5)/G)as high-performance anode materials in LIBs.Benefiting from the nanoscale crystalline structure Nb_(2)O_(5) and highly-conductive graphene substrate,the as-prepared Nb_(2)O_(5)/G exhibits excellent electrochemical performances.Impressively,a reversible structural phase transition between orthogonal Nb_(2)O_(5) and tetragonal Li1-xNbO_(2)(0

This paper studies a class of impulsive neutral stochastic partial differential equations in real Hilbert spaces.The main goal here is to consider the Trotter-Kato approximations of mild solutions of such equations in the pth-mean(p≥2).As an application,a classical limit theorem on the dependence of such equations on a parameter is obtained.The novelty of this paper is that the combination of this approximating system and such equations has not been considered before.

Distribution of per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances in blood,serum,and urine of patients with liver cancer and associations with liver function biomarkers

Studies have shown that per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFASs)may be hepatotoxic in animals or humans.However,data on clinical epidemiology are very limited.In this study,21PFASs were determined in patients with liver diseases,with the highest median concentrations detected in the serum sample(26.7 ng/mL),followed by blood(10.7 ng/mL)and urine(5.02 ng/mL).Higher total PFAS concentrations were found in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients compared to non-HCC patients,with significant discrepancies in serum and blood samples.Besides,significant correlations were also found among PFAS concentrations and age,gender,body mass index(BMI),and liver function biomarkers levels.For example,PFAS concentrations are significantly higher in males than in females;Several serum PFASs concentrations increase with age and BMI,while the serum perfluorohexane sulfonic acid(PFHxS)concentrations are negatively correlated with age.In addition,multiple regression models adjusted for age,gender and BMI found that increased serum perfluorobutane sulfonic acid(PFBS),perfluoroheptane sulfonic acid(PFHpS)and perfluorohexylphosphonic acid(PFHxPA)conentrations are correlated with elevated alkaline phosphatase(ALP),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),and alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)(p<0.05).Our results provide epidemiological support for the future study on the potential clinical hepatotoxicity of PFAS.
