To the Editor:With an aging global population,the incidences of community-acquired pneumonia(CAP)and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)have signicantly increased.[1]Previous studies have conrmed that COPD and asthma are independently associated with the prevalence of *** use of inhaled corticosteroid(ICS),the cornerstone of treatment for asthma,COPD with frequent acute exacerbations,and asthma-COPD overlap(ACO)may induce changes in the local lung microbiome and abnormal lung immunity,ultimately,causing a signicantly increased risk of ***,in cases of pneumonia,the effect of the use of ICS on CAP mortality remains *** data from one study favored the prior use of ICS,which was associated with a signicantly lower short-term mortality rate,[2]other studies have identied no impact on *** date,data on the impact of the use of ICS on mortality,prehospitalization or during hospitalization,are scarce,particularly in the older ***,this multicenter,retrospective study explored the association between the use of ICS during hospitalization and short-term mortality in older patients with CAP and those with chronic pulmonary disease(CPD).

Objective:This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the epidemiology of olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions related to COVID-19 in ***:This study was conducted by 45 tertiary Grade-A hospitals in *** and offline questionnaire data were obtained from patients infected with COVID-19 between December 28,2022,and February 21,*** collected information included basic demographics,medical history,smoking and drinking history,vaccination history,changes in olfactory and gustatory functions before and after infection,and other postinfection symptoms,as well as the duration and improvement status of olfactory and gustatory ***:Complete questionnaires were obtained from 35,566 *** overall incidence of olfactory and taste dysfunction was 67.75%.Being female or being a cigarette smoker increased the likelihood of developing olfactory and taste *** received four doses of the vaccine or having good oral health or being a alcohol drinker decreased the risk of such *** infection,the average olfactory and taste VAS scores were 8.41 and 8.51,respectively;after infection,they decreased to 3.69 and 4.29 and recovered to 5.83 and 6.55 by the time of the *** median duration of dysosmia and dysgeusia was 15 and 12 days,respectively,with 0.5%of patients having symptoms lasting for more than 28 *** overall self-reported improvement rate was 59.16%.Recovery was higher in males,never smokers,those who received two or three vaccine doses,and those that had never experienced dental health issues,or chronic accompanying ***:The incidence of dysosmia and dysgeusia following infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus is high in *** and prognosis are influenced by several factors,including sex,SARS-CoV-2 vaccination,history of head-facial trauma,nasal and oral health status,smoking and drinking history,and the persistence of accompanying symptoms.

BACKGROUND Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIPS),splenectomy plus esophagogastric devascularization(SED)and endoscopic therapy+non-selectiveβ-blockers(ET+NSBB)are widely applied in secondary prevention of recurrent gastroesophageal variceal bleeding in patients with liver *** different treatments,however,have not been compared in patients with idiopathic noncirrhotic portal hypertension(INCPH).AIM To compare the outcomes of TIPS,SED and ET+NSBB in the control of variceal rebleeding in patients with *** This retrospective study recruited patients from six centers across *** characteristics,baseline profiles and follow-up clinical outcomes were ***-procedural clinical outcomes,including incidence of rebleeding,hepatic encephalopathy(HE),portal vein thrombosis(PVT)and mortality rates,were compared in the different *** In total,81 patients were recruited,with 28 receiving TIPS,26 SED,and 27 ET+*** significant differences in demographic and baseline characteristics were found among these three groups before the *** treatment,blood ammonia was significantly higher in the TIPS group;hemoglobin level and platelet count were significantly higher in the SED group(P1).Rebleeding rate was significantly higher in the ET+NSBB group(P1).Mortality was 3.6%,3.8%and 14.8%in the TIPS,SED and ET+NSBB groups,respectively,with no significant differences(P=0.082).Logistic regression analysis showed that mortality was significantly correlated with rebleeding,HE,portal thrombosis and superior mesenteric vein thrombosis(P<0.05).CONCLUSION In patients with INCPH,TIPS and SED were more effective in controlling rebleeding than ET+NSBB,but survival rates were not significantly different among the three *** was significantly correlated with rebleeding,HE and PVT.

In recent years,increasing evidence has demonstrated that extra-corporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) can offer an effective and non-invasive method for the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders,such as shoulder tendinopathies,lateral epicondylopathy of the elbow,greater trochanteric pain syndrome,patellar tendinopathy,Achilles tendinopathy,plantar fasciitis,and bone disorders.[1,2]As a safe,cheap,and non-invasive therapeutic method,ESWT has played a promising role in orthopedic medicine.[3-5] Inspired by this,several researchers have attempted to investigate its use for treating osteonecrosis of the femoral *** deserves being recommended as the optimal choice for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH).

The infections in open fracture induce high morbidity ***,developing efficient anti-infective orthopedic devices is of great *** this work,we designed a kind of infection-responsive long-term antibacterial bone *** a facile and flexible volatilization method,a multi-aldehyde polysaccharide derivative,oxidized sodium alginate,was crosslinked with multi-amino compounds,gentamycin and gelatin,to fabricate a uniform coating on Ti bone plates via Schiff base reaction,which was followed by a secondary crosslinking process by *** double-crosslinked coating was stable under normal condition,and could responsively release gentamycin by the triggering of the acidic microenvironment caused by bacterial metabolism,owning to the pH-responsiveness of imine *** thickness of the coating was ranging from 22.0μm to 63.6μ*** coated bone plates(Ti-GOGs)showed infection-triggered antibacterial properties(>99%)and high *** being soaked for five months,it still possessed efficient antibacterial ability,showing its sustainable antibacterial *** in vivo anti-infection ability was demonstrated by an animal model of infection after fracture fixation(IAFF).At the early stage of IAFF,Ti-GOGs could inhibit the bacterial infection(>99%).Subsequently,Ti-GOGs could promote recovery of fracture of *** work provides a convenient and universal strategy for fabrication of various antibacterial orthopedic devices,which is promising to prevent and treat IAFF.

The novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)is the cause of a rapidly spreading illness,coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19),affecting more than seventeen million people around the *** and treatment guidelines for clinicians caring for patients are *** the early stage,we have issued"A rapid advice guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of 2019 novel coronavirus(2019-nCoV)infected pneumonia(standard version)";now there are many direct evidences emerged and may change some of previous recommendations and it is ripe for develop an evidence-based *** formed a working group of clinical experts and *** steering group members proposed 29 questions that are relevant to the management of COVID-19 covering the following areas:chemoprophylaxis,diagnosis,treatments,and discharge *** searched the literature for direct evidence on the management of COVID-19,and assessed its certainty generated recommendations using the Grading of Recommendations,Assessment,Development and Evaluation(GRADE)*** were either strong or weak,or in the form of ungraded consensus-based ***,we issued 34 *** them,6 were strong recommendations for,14 were weak recommendations for,3 were weak recommendations against and 11 were ungraded consensus-based *** covered topics of chemoprophylaxis(including agents and Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)agents),diagnosis(including clinical manifestations,reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR),respiratory tract specimens,IgM and IgG antibody tests,chest computed tomography,chest X-ray,and CT features of asymptomatic infections),treatments(including lopinavirritonavir,umifenovir,favipiravir,interferon,remdesivir,combination of antiviral drugs,hydroxychloroquine/chloroquine,interleukin-6 inhibitors,interleukin-1 inhibitors,glucocorticoid,qingfei paidu decoction,lianhua qingwen granules/capsules,convalescent plasma,lung
