Long-term stability in protected-areas?A vision from American/New World amphibians

Protected areas(PA)have proven to be one of the best ways to conserve biodiversity against environmental *** are considered the most threatened group,with habitat loss due to deforestation identified as their major ***,we assessed for each PA of the American continent:1)amphibian’s occurrence(Global Biodiversity Information Facility(GBIF)*** Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN)data);2)temperature velocity and estimated the climate residence time,and using the latest models of the land future use;3)we estimated the changes of natural *** cover in three future *** occurrence showed differences between databases,while GBIF data shows that 52%of the amphibian species occurring in the continent are in PA,based on IUCN data,85%are *** from climate change show a low pace of climate velocity during the last century that is maintained in the green scenario(SSP126).However,change in temperature increases in rate in the rest of the scenarios,with scenario SSP58 showing the highest velocity of temperature *** estimates of residence times in PA show that lower levels as emission scenarios tend to be *** results are worrisome since climate lag,specifically temperature increase over the PA will probably affect amphibian communities as shown in previous *** in climate patterns have a direct—mostly negative—impact on amphibians’ability to disperse and *** results of land use change were unexpected,since the categories showed minimal ***,the data on urbanization changes do not seem to be reflecting the trends of other databases,which may be causing artifacts in the comparisons in the future models of land *** research will be necessary to evaluate the extent of similarities and differences in future projections of land use including urbanization and human population between different databases.

AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness in reducing social stigma of an intervention and to assess the influence of gender and ***: The program consisted in providing information and contact with users of mental health in order to reduce social stigma in the school environment. A total of 62 secondary school students(age 14-16 years) were evaluated with the Opinions on Mental Illness(OMI) questionnaire before and after the intervention. The subscales of the OMI were: authoritarianism, interpersonal etiology, benevolence, restrictiveness and negativism. The analysis was performed over the total sample, separating by gender and knowledge of someone with a mental disorder. t-test for repeated measures was used in the statistical ***: All the OMI subscales showed a significant change after the intervention(P < 0.001), except for benevolence. Women presented significant changes in the subscales of authoritarianism and restrictiveness, while men presented changes in negativism and interpersonal etiology rather than restrictiveness(P < 0.001-0.003). Students that knew someone with a mental disorder presented significant changes in authoritarianism, interpersonal etiology, and negativism(P < 0.001-0.003) and students that do not know anyone with a mental disorder improved in restrictiveness and authoritarianism(P < 0.001-0.001). In all the subscales of the instrument the students improved their perception of mental disorders, reducing their levels of ***: The intervention designed to reduce social stigma was effective, especially in the area of authoritarianism. The whole sample showed improved attitudes towards mental illness, although the areas were different depending on gender and knowledge.

Net-FLICS:fast quantitative wide-field fluorescence lifetime imaging with compressed sensing–a deep learning approach

Macroscopic fluorescence lifetime imaging(MFLI)via compressed sensed(CS)measurements enables efficient and accurate quantification of molecular interactions in vivo over a large field of view(FOV).However,the current dataprocessing workflow is slow,complex and performs poorly under photon-starved *** this paper,we propose Net-FLICS,a novel image reconstruction method based on a convolutional neural network(CNN),to directly reconstruct the intensity and lifetime images from raw time-resolved CS *** carefully designing a large simulated dataset,Net-FLICS is successfully trained and achieves outstanding reconstruction performance on both in vitro and in vivo experimental data and even superior results at low photon count levels for lifetime quantification.

Distributing disciplinarian of ground motion parameters on an earth fissure site during strong earthquakes

To investigate the distributing disciplinarian of ground motion parameters on the earth fissure site during strong earthquakes,a series of shaking table tests were designed and conducted based on 1:15 scaled *** results showed significant differences in the ground motion parameters(including ground motion intensity indices,spectrum characteristics and strong motion duration)between the hanging-wall and footwall caused by the earth *** response,displacement response and Arias Intensity response on both sides of earth fissure indicated that the earth fissure site on the hanging-wall was destroyed more *** distributing disciplinarian of amplification factors showed clear"hangingwall and footwall effects",which were more remarkable nearby the fissure *** low-frequency component of the seismic wave was richer after selectively filtering in the soil *** comparing the predominant period and mean period of the hanging-wall and footwall,it was found that vibration frequency on the hanging-wall was greater than that on the *** values of strong motion duration were recorded on the hanging-wall close to the fissure and increased from the fissure to both sides.

Close-range hyperspectral images are a promising source of information in plant biology,in particular,for in vivo study of physiological *** this study,we investigate how data fusion can improve the detection of leaf elements by combining pixel reflectance and morphological *** detection of image regions associated to the leaf structures is the first step toward quantitative analysis on the physical effects that genetic manipulation,disease infections,and environmental conditions have in *** tested our fusion approach on Musa acuminata (banana) leaf images and compared its discriminant capability to similar techniques used in remote *** results demonstrate the efficiency of our fusion approach,with significant improvements over some conventional methods.

A mass-customizable dermal patch with discrete colorimetric indicators for personalized sweat rate quantification

In this paper,we present a disposable,colorimetric,user-friendly and mass-customizable dermal patch for chronological collection and discrete real-time in situ measurement of sweat secretion over a small area of *** patch consists of a laminated filter paper patterned into radially arranged channels/fingers with water-activated dyes at their *** channels are filled during perspiration,their tips change color once fully saturated,providing easily identifiable levels of water loss which in turn can be mapped to personal dehydration *** patch can be manufactured at low cost in a variety of sizes to allow hydration monitoring for individuals participating in activities under different conditions(intensity,temperature,humidity,etc.).Furthermore,we describe an analytical model that enables mass customization of such a flexible wearable system accommodating a broad range of sweat rates and volumes to generate patch designs that are personalized to an individual’s sweat rate,desired time of usage,and the temporal resolution of the required *** a proof-of-concept demonstration,we characterized laser-fabricated patches that cover(7 cm×5 cm)area of skin having various wicking materials,thicknesses(180–540μm),and pore sizes(3–11μm).Tests were conducted at various flow rates simulating different sweating intensities in the range of 1.5–15 mg/cm^(2)/*** results for the case of a half-marathon runner targeting 90 min of usage and sweating at a rate of 1.5 mg/cm2/min indicated measurement accuracy of 98.3%when the patch is completely filled.

Background:Inbreeding depression can adversely affect traits related to fitness,reproduction and productive *** current research suggests that inbreeding levels are generally low in most goat breeds,the impact of inbreeding depression on phenotypes of economic interest has only been investigated in a few studies based on genealogical ***:We genotyped 1040 goats with the Goat SNP50 *** information was used to estimate different molecular inbreeding coefficients and characterise runs of homozygosity and homozygosity *** detected38 genomic regions with increased homozygosity as well as 8 ROH hotspots mapping to chromosomes 1,2,4,6,14,16 and *** hundred seventeen goats with available records for dairy traits were analysed to evaluate the potential consequences of inbreeding depression on milk *** regions on chromosomes 8 and 25were significantly associated with inbreeding depression for the natural logarithm of the somatic cell ***,these regions contain several genes related with immunity,such as SYK,IL27,CCL19 and ***,one region on chromosome 2 was significantly associated with inbreeding depression for milk ***:Although genomic inbreeding levels are low in Murciano-Granadina goats,significant evidence of inbreeding depression for the logarithm of the somatic cell count,a phenotype closely associated with udder health and milk yield,have been detected in this *** inbreeding would be expected to augment economic gain by increasing milk yield and reducing the incidence of mastitis,which is one of the main causes of dairy goat culling.

Protective behaviors regarding coastal flooding risk in a context of climate change

The physical vulnerability of coastal areas due to rising sea level and the flooding risk consequent,does not guarantee the implementation of protective behaviors by these risk zones’*** study aims to establish the link between the willingness to carry out protective behaviors and physical and perceived indicators of vulnerability.A typology of coastal flooding vulnerability,uses various physical indicators and their perceived counterparts which have been collected from 490 inhabitants of Cartagena(Colombia,declared world heritage of humanity by UNESCO in 1984),resident in areas of coastal flooding *** item-response theory(IRT)approach has been *** results reveal that the implementation of protective behaviors is more related to perceived indicators,such as distance to the sea,than to actual physical *** observe that physical vulnerability is linked to the intention to carry out protective *** presence of a defensive structure against coastal flooding could be considered as a visual cue and be a good predictor of the willingness to carry out protective *** the contrary,people in the most vulnerable situation(single-storey house)do not demonstrate a higher level of willingness to carry out protective behavior,as well of participants who lived in residential buildings which have demonstrated lower level of willingness to carry out such ***,vulnerability of the house is not seen as a criterion that encourages participants to better protect themselves.

Self-healing and SDN:bridging the gap

Achieving high programmability has become an essential aim of network research due to the ever-increasing internet ***-Defined Network(SDN)is an emerging architecture aimed to address this ***,maintaining accurate knowledge of the network after a failure is one of the largest challenges in the *** by this reality,this paper focuses on the use of self-healing properties to boost the SDN *** approach,unlike traditional schemes,is not based on proactively configuring multiple(and memory-intensive)backup paths in each switch or performing a reactive and time-consuming routing computation at the controller ***,the control paths are quickly recovered by local switch actions and subsequently optimized by global controller *** results show that the proposed approach recovers the control topology effectively in terms of time and message load over a wide range of generated ***,scalability issues of traditional fault recovery strategies are avoided.
