Objective:To investigate the possibility of increased antimalarial activity of Icacina senegalensis ***(Icacinaceae)upon a combination of its leaves and tubers against Plasmodium berghei malaria in ***:Chloroquine sensitive ANKA clones of Plasmodium berghei were used to develop experimental models based on intraperitoneal injection of 10^(7)parasitized erythrocytes in phosphate buffer saline(pH 7.2)and subsequent development of *** models were employed to investigate prophylactic and curative anti-malarial activities of tuber and tuberleaf methanol extracts of the plant at selected dosages(25,50 and 100 mg/kg body weight).Chloroquine with a curative dosage of 10 mg/kg body weight was used as positive control in both ***:Tuber and tuber-leaf extracts produced a dose-dependent chemosuppression of the parasites,with higher activity and mean survival time exhibited by the combined ***:Anti-plasmodia activity has been discovered in methanol extract of Icacina senegalensis tuber *** observed optimization of the antimalarial actions of the plant upon a combination of its leaf and tuber opens a new area of medicinal plant research.

Objective:To evaluate the effect of aqueous leaf extract of Guiera senegalensis(***)on gastric mucosal damage using different ulcer ***:Considering the above claims,the present study was undertaken to validate the gastroprotective potential of the aqueous leaf extract of this plant against ethanol,water immersion and Aspirin induced ulcer ***:The leaf extract(50,100 and 200 mg/kg,p.o.)significantly(P<0.05)decreased the ulcer index in all assays ***:The results obtained,provide strong evidence of antiulcer activity of the leaf extract of *** and support the traditional uses of the plant for the treatment of ulcer.

Objective:To investigate the antimalarial activity of ethanol extract of Aspilin africana (***) ***:The ethanol extract of *** leaf(100-400 mg/kg) was screened for blood schizonticidal effect against chloroquine-sensitive Plasmodium berghei(P. berghei) in mice both in early and established models of antimalarial ***:The leaf extract exhibited significant(P<0.05) antiplasmodial activity in 4-day early infection and in established infection tests with a considerable mean survival time comparable to that of standard drug,chloroquine(10 mg/kg).Conclusions:The findings show thai ethanol extract of *** leaf possesses potent antiplasmodial activity which justify the use in ethnomedicine and can be developed in malaria therapy.

Study of Multi-Origin Hazards and Assessment of Associated Risks in the Lefo Caldera (Bamenda Volcano, Cameroon Line)

The Bamenda Volcano (BV) (2621 m) is a stratovolcano situated in the Cameroon Line (CL). BV includes Mount Lefo (2534 m) which is situated on its southern slopes and contains one elliptical caldera (3 × 4 km). This caldera is propitious to farming and breeding activity. Despite these profitable assets, Lefo caldera (LC) is an amphitheater of the occurrence of multi-origin hazards that have direct or indirect impacts on the biodiversity and human patrimony. The most present hazards are those of meteorological origin. Numerous combined factors (steepest slopes, heavy rainfalls, weathered state of volcanic products…) rule these hazards. These factors gave rise to the occurrence of landslides, gullies erosion and rock falls which occur precisely on caldera northern and eastern rims. Hazards of anthropogenic origin are based on the destruction of the vegetation cover by the population for dealing, firewood and building issues. Moreover, during the breeding activity, the cattle covers the caldera throughout the day;this unevens the topography and destroys the meadow. Hazards of volcanological origin are not yet occurring in LC;but the recent Lake Monoun (1984) and Nyos (1986) CO2 eruptions, mount Cameroon eruptions (1999 and 2000) and mount oku Lake event (2011) which are close to the BV and, the age of 0 Myr of basalt, constitutes a subject of controversy toward the reactivation of the Cameroonian hotspot faults. The assessment of risks in LC was based on the average income of breeding activity and house investment. The economy of LC is valued at about US$527472.527. The level of such risk will be important in case of loss of human beings and the destruction of geomorphosites’ values. In order to reduce the level of looses in this zone, hazard and risks maps are provided in this paper as well as some recommendations.
