Novel role for gab.pentin in neuroprotection of central nervous system in streptozotocine-induced diab.tic rats

Aim:To investigate the effect of gab.pentin on neural [neuron-specific enolase（NSE）] and glial markers [glial fib.illary acidic protein （GFAP） and S 100b. in differ-ent b.ain regions of diab.tic ***:Diab.tes was induced b. a singleintraperitoneal injection of streptozotocine （50 mg/kg b.dy weight）.Rats in onediab.tic group received gab.pentin (50 ***-1.d-1) and rats in the other diab.ticgroup received vehicle only for 6 *** levels of GFAP,S100b.and NSE weredetermined b. immunob.otting in the hippocampus,cortex,and *** （LPO as malondialdehyde+ 4-hydroxyalkenals） and glutathione （GSH）levels were also determined in the same b.ain ***:Total and degradedGFAP content and S100b.protein expression in different areas of b.ain tissuessignificantly increased in diab.tic rats compared to control ***,NSElevels were also significantly elevated in hyperglycemic *** addition,therewas a significant increase in LPO levels in the diab.tic rat b.ain compared tocontrol rat *** with gab.pentin prevented the upregulation ofGFAP,S 100b.and NSE in all b.ain regions of diab.tic *** level of LPO wasreduced,b.t not completely halted,b. treatment with ***:These results suggest that diab.tes causes glial and neuronal injury,possib.y asa result of elevated oxidative stress,and that gab.pentin protects neurons andglial ***,we predict that gab.pentin treatment will attenuate the hippo-campal and cortical neurodegeneration ob.erved during diab.tes mellitus in rats.

Liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma in Ireland:Pre-operative alpha-fetoprotein predicts tumour recurrence in a 14-year single-centre national experience

AIM: To examine the results of orthotopic liver transplantation(OLT) for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) in Ireland over a 14-year ***: Cases of HCC receiving OLT b.tween January 1995 and Septemb.r 2009 in the Irish Liver Transplant Unit were reviewed from a prospectively maintained datab.se. Outcome measures included overall and recurrence free survival, alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) and tumour pathological features. RESULTS: On explant pathology, 57 patients had HCC. The median follow-up time was 42.7 mo. The overall 1, 3 and 5 years survival was 87.7%, 72.1% and 72.4%. There was no difference in survival when comparedto patients undergoing OLT without malignancy. The tumour recurrence rate was 14%. The Milan criteria were exceeded in 32% of cases b.t this did not predict overall survival or recurrence. On multivariate analysis pre-operative AFP > 100 ng/m L was an independent risk factor for recurrence(RR = 5.2, CI: 1.1-24.3, P = 0.036).CONCLUSION: Patients undergoing OLT for HCC had excellent survival even when conventional listing criteria were exceeded. Pre-operative AFP predicts recurrence independent of tumour size and its role in selection criteria should b. investigated in larger studies.

The Pontide b.lt in northern Turkey includes three major tectonic terranes,the Strandja Massif（Sj M）,and the Istanb.l（ISZ）and Sakarya Zones（SZ）(Fig.1).We present new age and geochemical data from ophiolites and ophiolitic mélanges within the Sakarya Zone and show that these mafic–ultramafic rocks are the remnants of Tethyan oceanic lithosphere formed in different tectonic *** main ophiolite occurrences investigated in this study along the Karakaya Suture（KS）are associated with the latest Triassic Cimmeride orogeny,and in the Küre–Yusufeli ophiolite b.lt are part of the Alpide *** Karakaya Suture Zone ophiolites in northern west Turkey are comprised mainly of the Denizgoren（?anakkale）ophiolite,b.?azk?y（b.rsa）,Geyve（Sakarya）,Almac?k（Düzce）and?ele（b.lu）*** Denizg?ren ophiolite largely contains upper mantle peridotites,which are equivalents of the Permo–Triassic Lesvos peridotites and mélange units farther SW in the northern Aegean *** b.?azk?y ophiolite includes serpentinite and metagab.ro,and the Almac?k and Geyve ophiolites display an almost complete Penrose–type sequence consisting of serpentinizeduppermantleperidotites,cumulate ultramafic–mafic rocks,isotropic gab.ros,dolerite and plagiogranite dikes,and extrusive rocks.U–Pb.zircon dating of plagiogranite dikes from?ele has revealed an igneous age of 260 Ma,and 255,235,227 Ma from Almac?k（b.zkurt et al.,2012a,b..Consistent with the previouslypub.ished Permo–Triassic age,we ob.ained a 268.4±6.3 Ma U–Pb.zircon age from a plagiogranite dike within the Almacik ophiolite to the *** KS ophiolite b.lt containing the?ele,Almac?k,Geyve ophiolites within the SZ extends westward into the Armutlu Peninsula and then into the b.ga Peninsula（***?ren ophiolite）and most likely connects with the remnants of the Triassic Meliata–Meliac ocean b.sin（Stampfli and b.rel,2002）in the b.lkan *** KS ophiolites also continue eastward within the Pontide b.lt into the Elekda?ophiolite（e

Functional copolymer/organo-silicate [octadecyl amine (ODA) surface modified montmorillonite (MMT)] layered nanocomposites have b.en synthesized b. interlamellar complex-radical copolymerization of preintercalated complexes of maleic anhydride (MA)... ODA-MMT and itaconic acid (IA)... ODA-MMT as ‘nano-reactors’ with n-b.tyl methacrylate (b.A) as an internal plasticization comonomer in the presence of radical initiator. It was demonstrated that intercalation and exfoliation in situ processes are accompatied b. physical (H-b.nding) and chemical (amidization/imidization) interfacial interactions of monomers with ODA-MMT which are responsib.e for the formation of nanostructural hyb.id architectures. The synthesized copolymers and their nanocomposites were investigated b. X-ray diffraction, TGA-DSC, SEM and TEM methods. It was found that nanocomposites’ crystallinity, thermal properties and morphology strongly depended on the force of interfacial monomer... ODA-MMT complex-formation and the amount of flexib.e n-b.tyl ester linkages. An increase in b.th of these parameters leads to enhanced intercalation and exfoliation in situ processes of copolymer chains and the formation of hyb.id nanocomposites.

目的:探讨18F-FDG PET/CT在宫颈癌淋巴结转移中的诊断价值。方法:收集在我院经病理确诊且有完整临床病理影像学资料的,治疗前接受18F-FDG PET/CT及CT检查的,有完整肿瘤标志物数据的宫颈癌患者纳入研究范围,选择既往未接受任何治疗(放疗、化疗及手术治疗)的FIGO 2018分期ⅠA-Ⅳb.和复发的宫颈癌患者依随访标准进行随访。结果:18F-FDG PET/CT在评估宫颈癌患者淋巴结转移的总体敏感度,特异度和准确率分别为 86.8%(79/91),81.1%(43/53),84.7%(122/144),PPV为 88.8%(79/89)、NPV 为 78.2%(43/55);18F-FDGPET/CT 在短轴直径≤0.5cm 的转移性淋巴结中,检测敏感度66.7%(2/3)、特异度85.7%(12/14)、准确率82.4%(14/17),直径在0.6到1厘米之间时,敏感度81.3%(39/48)、特异度83.3%(25/30)、准确率82.1%(64/78),直径在1.1到1.5厘米之间时,敏感度91.3%(21/23)、特异度83.3%(25/30)、准确率 83.9%(26/31),直径为 1.6厘米或更大时,敏感度 100%(17/17)、特异度100%(1/1)、准确率100%(18/18)。CT在短轴直径≤0.5cm的转移性淋巴结中,检测敏感度0%(0/3)、特异度100%(2/2)、准确率40%(2/5),直径在0.6到1厘米之间时,敏感度0%(0/31)、特异度100%(16/16)、准确率34%(16/47),直径在1.1到1.5厘米之间时,敏感度29.2%(7/24)、特异度100%(2/2)、准确率34.6%(9/26),直径为1.6厘米或更大时,敏感度66.7%(4/6)、特异度50%(1/2)、准确率71.4%(5/7)。血清SCC-Ag评估宫颈癌淋巴结转移的灵敏度、特异度、PPV、NPV、准确率分别为44%、94.3%、40.45%、87.27%、58.33%;宫颈鳞状细胞癌患者血清SCC-Ag曲线下面积为0.705,P<0.001,血清SCC-Ag联合18F-FDG PET/CT评估时曲线下面积为0.901,P<0.001。结论:18F-FDG PET/CT评估宫颈癌患者淋巴结转移具有较高的诊断价值。血清SCC-Ag联合18F-FDGPET/CT评估宫颈鳞状细胞癌淋巴结转移可以有效提高其诊断效能。
