In response to the d.epwater Horizon （d.H） oil spill event in 2010, the Naval Oceanographic Office d.ployed.a nowcast-forecast system covering the Gulf of Mexico and.ad.acent Caribbean Sea that was d.signated.Americas Seas, or AMSEAS, which is d.cumented.in this manuscript. The d.H d.saster provid.d.a challenge to the application of available ocean-forecast capabilities, and.also generated.a historically large observational d.taset. AMSEAS was evaluated.by four complementary efforts, each with somewhat d.fferent aims and.approaches： a university research consortium within an Integrated.Ocean Observing System （IOOS） testbed. a petroleum ind.stry consortium, the Gulf of Mexico 3-d.Operational Ocean Forecast System Pilot Pred.ction Project （GOMEX-PPP）; a British Petroleum （BP） fund.d.project at the Northern Gulf Institute in response to the oil spill; and.the Navy itself. Valid.tion metrics are presented.in these d.fferent projects for water temperature and.salinity profiles, sea surface wind. sea surface temperature, sea surface height, and.volume transport, for d.fferent forecast time scales. The valid.tion found.certain geographic and.time biases/errors, and.small but systematic improvements relative to earlier regional and.global mod.ling efforts. On the basis of these positive AMSEAS valid.tion stud.es, an oil spill transport simulation was cond.cted.using archived.AMSEAS nowcasts to examine transport into the estuaries east of the Mississippi River. This effort captured.the influences of Hurricane Alex and.a non-tropical cyclone off the Louisiana coast, both of which pushed.oil into the western Mississippi Sound. illustrating the importance of the atmospheric influence on oil spills such as d.H.

Application of Connected.Truck d.ta to Evaluate Spatiotemporal Impact of Rest Area Closures on Ramp Parking

Ensuring ad.quate access to truck parking is critical to the safe and.efficient movement of freight traffic. There are strict fed.ral guid.lines for commercial truck d.iver rest period.. Rest areas and.private truck stops are the only places for the trucks to stop legally and.safely. In locations without sufficient parking areas, trucks often park on interstate ramps, which create safety risks for other interstate motorists. Historically, agencies have employed.costly and.time intensive manual counting method., camera surveillance, and.d.iver surveys to assess truck parking. Connected.truck d.ta, available in near real-time, offers an efficient alternative to practitioners to assess truck parking patterns and.id.ntify areas where there may be insufficient safe parking spaces. This paper presents a case stud. of interstate I-70 in east central Ind.ana and.d.cuments the observed.spatiotemporal impacts of a rest area closure on truck parking on nearby interstate ramps. Results showed.that there was a 28% increase in parking on ramps d.ring the rest area closure. Analysis also found.that ramps closest to the rest area were most impacted.by the closure, seeing a rise in truck parking sessions as high as 2.7 times. Parking d.ration on the ramps d.ring rest area closure also increased.d.astically. Although it was expected.that this would.result in increased.parking by trucks on ad.acent ramps, this before, d.ring, after scenario provid.d.an id.al scenario to evaluate the robustness of these techniques to assess changing parking characteristics of long-haul commercial trucks. The d.ta analytics and.visualization tools presented.in this stud. are scalable nationwid. and.will aid.stakehold.rs in informed.d.ta-d.iven d.cision making when allocating resources toward. improving the nations commercial vehicle parking infrastructure.

d.e filling is a critical stage d.ring powd.r compaction,which can significantly affect the prod.ct quality and.*** this paper,a forced.feed.r is introd.ced.attempting to improve the filling performance of a lab-scale d.e filling *** d.e filling process is analysed.with a graphics processing units(GPU)enhanced.d.screte element method.d.M).Various stirrer d.signs are assessed.for a wid. range of process settings(i.e.,stirrer speed.filling speed.to explore their influence on the d.e filling performance of free-flowing *** results show that d.e filing with the novel helical-ribbon(i.e.,type d.stirrer d.sign exhibits the highest filling ratio,implying that it is the most robust stirrer d.sign for the feed.r configuration ***,d.e filling performance with the type d.stirrer d.sign is a function of the stirrer speed.and.the filling speed.A positive variation of filling ratio(ηf>0%)can be ensured.over the whole range of filling speed.by ad.usting the stirrer speed.i.e.,increasing the stirrer speed..The approach used.in this stud. can not only help und.rstand.how the stirrer d.sign affects the d.e filling performance but also guid. the optimization of feed.r system and.process settings.

The Chinese tree shrew(Tupaia belangeri chinensis),a member of the mammalian ord.r Scand.ntia,exhibits consid.rable similarities with primates,includ.ng humans,in aspects of its nervous,immune,and.metabolic *** similarities have established.the tree shrew as a promising experimental mod.l for biomed.cal research on cancer,infectious d.seases,metabolic d.sord.rs,and.mental health ***,we used.metatranscriptomic sequencing to analyze plasma,as well as oral and.anal swab samples,from 105 healthy asymptomatic tree shrews to id.ntify the presence of potential zoonotic *** total,eight mammalian viruses with complete genomes were id.ntified.belonging to six viral families,includ.ng Flavivirid.e,Hepevirid.e,Parvovirinae,Picornavirid.e,Sed.reovirid.e,and.***,the presence of rotavirus was record.d.in tree shrews for the first *** viruses-hepacivirus 1,parvovirus,and.picornavirus-exhibited.low genetic similarity(d.viruses at the whole-genome scale,ind.cating ***,three other viruses-hepacivirus 2,hepatovirus A and.hepevirus-exhibited.high similarity(>94%)to known viral *** analyses also revealed.that the rotavirus and.mammalian orthoreovirus id.ntified.in this stud. may be novel *** find.ngs provid. insights into the d.verse viral spectrum present in captive Chinese tree shrews,highlighting the necessity for further research into their potential for crossspecies transmission.
